Librarian
Just found out that FG&W stocked the Pond near me with 500 trout. What fly, size and presentation should I use to catch them. Any help would be apppreciated. Not really used to water with out a healthy dose of salt.
suntzu
For new hatchery trout, big streamers with lots of mylar. Might use bigger bead head nymphs as well. These fish don't really know forage yet but will hit anything that moves erraticlly out of instinct. I caught a few in my local pond when the state stocked just before christmas. JonS
Hatchery fish aren't very particular. Each day they're in the water they get smarter. If you're using spin gear spinners and spoons are hard to beat. if you need some help catching them let us know. We'll come on over.
