  1. Hello all, I have an older Abu Garcia 3 star spinning rod that I got from a tag sale a while back that I plan to use as a second/backup rod. The writing had rubbed off so I have no idea what weight lures/sinkers I should throw. The rod is about 6ft with large stainless steel guides that tapir down closer to the tip (so assuming spinning rod). Since the writing rubbed off over time, is there any way to calculate or guestimate the action and power of the rod plus what weight tackle & line I should use? Overall the rod seems extremely stiff compared to others I've used.

  3. I thought i would load a bottom fishing reel with 30lb backing, (3/4 full) then 40lb braid (200ft) then a 12ft top shot of 30lb mono. So the mono top shot breaks , not the braid if stuck? what do you think and why .
  4. I have had 3 digital rapala's scales,,,,they last 3mouths the spring scales at you tackle stores,,,,there just not accurate,,,,,I got this today $12 and 1 gallon of water is 8.3lbs the tag said 1905 and it still works,,,,now that's funny
  5. Just got my first nice rod for surfcasting. It's rated for something like 2 oz total, and I think that is pretty common for a lot of the rods y'all have recommended here. And yet I see many people using rigs with pyramid or drop weights that are more than those two ounces. What am I missing? By how much is it safe to exceed that rating? Under what circumstances? Only weights? Or only lures? Only when throwing old pieces of fruitcake?
