  1. I'm looking for recommendations on a solid light tackle trolling reel for my kayak (Old Town Sportsman Bigwater 132 PDL). I mainly troll in freshwater reservoirs in Maryland and Virginia right now but also plan to do more in brackish (Chesapeake and Potomac). I want something light tackle preferably under 18 oz, ideally under 15 oz if possible. I've looked at everything for hours including both conventional and baitcaster reels. I don't want to use spinning, mainly because I already have spinning I use to troll when I go super light (Shimano Nasci/Spheros 3000 for 2oz or less works like a dream). I want a reel to troll bucktails, Alabama rigs, umbrellas, tandem rigs, spoons etc, mainly for stripers but also for musky and walleye in the future. Targeting fish in the 5-30lb range mainly. I don't have an exact price range, I more want a medium to high end reel that will last and be light and smooth (let's assume between $125-$300). I feel like having a clicker is almost mandatory. Multi-purpose isn't necessary but is nice to have (i.e. being able to cast as well as troll isn't mandatory). I'm torn between levelwind or not, and conventional vs low-profile/circlular or high-capacity baitcasters. I have looked at the following and none have stood out as a clear winner. I would love to hear your all's thoughts on any of these reels or any I haven't listed. - Seigler SG/SGN - Accurate Fury 400 and Valiant (the latter not being worth money imo) - Avet SX and SXJ - Daiwa Lexa CC - Shimano Tranx (no clicker sucks) - Okuma Komodo SS - Shimano Calcutta - Daiwa Saltist 20H Also, if anyone has any rod recs to pair for the kayak I am all ears

  3. Let's see if we can't collectively define a "troll thread" I'm not looking for names, I'm not looking for political leanings...I'd like to have an actual discussion - this isn't one of 'those' TimS threads that wanders around and turns into a safe haven for off topic and personal stuff So, please, let's leave out the personal stuff, the names, the left/right blame - I'd like to see what other folks think make a thread a "troll" thread I have my own personal feelings as to what constitutes a "troll"...but I went to Google first to check out a couple accepted definitions of a "troll". Here's what Wiki says: Like my personal beliefs, the Wiki definition boils down to intent. I've been saying it for years, folks that come here to disrupt rather than discuss, are trolls. I think the phrase "sows discord" is also right on target. Folks that come here to argue instead of discuss...folks that come here only to complain rather than participate...folks that continually attempt to rally some opposition to forum moderators/admins...folks that continually make their posts personal rather than add to the discussion...all trolls. Some folks only know how to troll...they are easy to spot - instead of responding to a topic in a manner that continues the discussion, their posts are almost always "inflammatory, extraneous or off topic". When is always seems like the same person is trying to change the topic - they are trolling. After a little more digging, I found another angle by which threads are identified as "troll" threads. Apparently, a troll thread, in some circles, is a thread that is designed to fool people into thinking it's serious In other words, like someone starting a thread to complain about something...when what they are complaining about is completely manufactured. So a thread based on a knowingly false premise for the purpose to fooling others into thinking the premise is factually correct/true...it appears that the fooling people part is paramount to the thread being considered a troll. I'd consider this fooling people type trolling to be of a different nature than the "sows discord" type troll above. I don't consider this type of troll to be an entirely negative type of participation...there is some humor involved...and that's usually not a bad thing - or at least I wouldn't consider the intent of this type of troll to be as negative as someone who "sows discord" constantly. I'd like to hear some other folks' thoughts on what they consider a "troll thread" - again, I'm looking for definitions, not examples, not names of people...just the definition...something we can work with as we try to reach an agreement as to what constitutes a troll thread - thanks TimS
