I want to expand my horizons when it comes to early back bay fishing for bass with lures. The past several years I have looked to fish tidal flats that drain to 1-2’ at low and are 3-5’ at high also they have a nice current. The only issue I’ve had is that I don’t have any confidence that I will find anything over 25”. Early season how do you target the larger fish, do they hold on different structure? I usually do well by April fishing needlefish at night in similar areas described and catch up to 30” at night only. Early March what are the optimal circumstances (structure wise) to find a striper 25”+?

I grew up fishing a beach that used to have significant structure especially after a big storm. We'd have sand bars, cuts, holes, the whole 9. Past few years though, there just hasn't been the same configurations of sand as there used to be. However several big fish have been landed there. I almost never plug open beaches so it's a bait only thing for me; clams, bunker, etc. I'm wondering how you guys approach a beach without much (visible) structure. Do you just walk and cover water? I watched a seminar by Billy the Greek and he said to constantly be moving up and down the beach and let your sinker find holes and edges that you can't see from shore. Anybody use this technique? Sorry if they're dumb questions I'm just trying to figure this beach out because I know it has some serious potential. Thanks!
