  1. This is a bit of rant on something i've been perplexed by for a while. I'm even more perplexed by it now that the Spinfisher VI is out, and Tsunami has a new reel in the works. Shimano has both Spheros and the Saragosa SW's, Penn has their Slammer III and Spinfisher VI, Tsunami has their shield and newly showcased SaltX. Why does it seem like Daiwa is so reluctant to provide a mid-priced sealed reel?! I don't care about the mag-seal and all of this space-aged stuff, but since you've gone ahead and added it to the Saltist line would it have been too much to ask for that reel to be fully sealed? I mean it's named the SALTIST for crying out loud!! There are no words to describe how disappointed I was when I realized this reel went to all the trouble of having mag-sealing and yet not be fully sealed. What was the point!?! Are there any DAIWA reps on this site? If you guys are open to suggestion from the lowly public I have one: Please, please, please, give us another alternative. We dont need, the BG, Saltist and now Eliminator. More of the same but in different price brackets. Upgrade one of those. I cannot be the only person who finds this at least mildly annoying...
  2. Does anybody have any insight on the shimano speedcast ive seen it a few times and I was wondering if it’s a good feel or not
  3. Just throwing this request out there. I'm booked for surf fishing to PVR in August. This is my 5th trip and I have met a local man there that I have used as my guide the past 4 years. The situation is that he is dirt poor, makes some money guiding and selling fish as well as some manuel labor work. He has a wife and two kids to provide for. Lives in a house with a dirt floor in a very small village on a dirt road off of another dirt road. He is in need of a surf rod around 11'-12', 1-4 oz range and a spinning reel with a high retrieve rate in good shape. If anyone has some gear like this that they could part with for a worthy cause I would be happy to hear from you. I am taking some clothes, toys and jewlery with me besides some cash to buy food and medicine for the needy ( don't like handing out straight cash as it can easily be misused ). My city is about 1000 miles NW of Denver so no selection of used surf fishing gear. I can pay shipping to Montana border to keep costs down. If this has any interest for you or you need any more info let me know. If your not interested, no problem, I realise this is not for everyone. Thanks for your time.....Don PS. I fly out on Aug 12

(Never fished btw, I just bought a vs 150).Suffice to say, I no longer need it .I could shipped it back to seller but would have to pay $35 dollar restocking fee. 10. I'm getting a minor grinding noise when I use my cabo. I have washed the whole thing out with hot water and re lubed/greased it all up and am still feeling it grind when I reel in. The only thing I have not done is take the side plate off and taken a look at all the internal gears and re greased those up. This will be my next step unless anyone has any suggestions or experienced this before and has any ideas for a fix?

  15. For Sale is my Penn Torque 5 Bail-less spinning reel. I bought this reel this October (three months ago) and used it exactly six times this fall. Caught about 30 fish with it (good mojo) but never reeled it under water. Rinsed and dried it after every use. Greased the shaft but never opened it up. Not a single scratch, dent, or blemish of any kind. It’s indistinguishable from brand new, in the box, with all paperwork. Pictures are of the reel now. This is the updated version with the washer on the shaft, not the pin. Asking $450 cash pickup or meet in Rhode Island. Or will ship to Northeast US with PayPal payment for $470. This reel lists for $659 and is just like brand new. Thanks for looking and thank you SOL.
  16. Hey Guys, ICAST 2015 is right around the corner (next week in Orlando, FL) and PENN has given me permission to share complete photos of the Clash 5000 in a "sneak peak" for those on SOL and other sites that are interested. The Clash will not be available at your local favorite "Tackle Ho Emporium" until sometime in October and I for one could not wait that long for at least a peak at some of the new features PENN has incorporated into this new reel that fits just above the Battle II or Conflict in price but well below the Torque. This will be a photo heavy post broken up into pieces as we go and not a review or service tutorial strictly speaking. A review should only take place after months on the water with real testing etc...this is intended just to give those unable to attend ICAST a look at the new features of the reel with some discussion of design intent. We can safely say that PENN is adding features to make the reel much tougher than it's siblings with tougher materials and construction details. How that plays out in production and on the water we can be hopeful but that will take time to sort out. PENN Clash 5000: And compared to a Battle II 6000 for size: Which makes it seem large due to the wide angle lens, but if we reverse the position we can see it is clearly a smaller reel as expected: To be continued
  17. For sale are three of the older model Shimano Spheros. Two 5000FA and a 6000FA. All reels are great mechanically, but have minor cosmetic wear mostly on the gold trim pieces. There is also a little corrosion on the spools, which seems to be a common problem with these. There are no rough edges jutting out that could affect the line though. The 6000FA was used a bit more and is slightly rougher. They are solid reels, built better than the current $100 class reels offered today. They weigh around 20oz so they pair well with a 9-10' surf rod. Would trade for any of them for a 4000FA/FB. PayPal preferred. 5000FA #1 - smoothest of the three, $60 shipped 5000FA #2 - comes with 30?lb power pro, $55 shipped 6000FA - $50 shipped
  18. No longer have a need for this reel. All the red parts were stripped and coated with red Cerakote by SMI Coatings in Haverhill, MA. Gloss was achieved by adding two coats of KBS Diamond Clear. The chrome-looking body is polished aluminum also with 2 coats of Diamond Clear to keep the exposed aluminum from oxidizing. Finish is rock hard and currently flawkless of any scratches or boat rash after a year of use. Reel just got a full cleaning and servicing. Ready to go. Mechanically 9/10, cosmetically 10/10. Asking $90 shipped or $80 picked up near Boston.
  19. Reel is in excellent working condition two small abrasion marks from rod holder $75 shipped Post office money order
  20. over on the BST forum? I know they are supposed to be the best reels. Why are people wanting to sell? Seems like the VS reels are the ones you see the most that are up for sale here.
