Over the years I've had some really good days fishing western Mass. -- on the Housatonic and some of the ponds and lakes around Lee and other towns up there. But one place I've had only so-so luck is Laurel Lake, even though I keep hearing that it's a solid place for smallies, largemouth, and perch. Just curious if any of the good people here have fished Laurel and other places near Lenox, Stockbridge, etc., and what your experience was like. (Not looking for favorite spots, obviously. Just general impressions.) Thanks.
Fished the lower end of Lehigh River over the weekend to avoid the blow at the shore. 6am-1pm. cool morning bite. bite slowed to a crawl after the jetski's woke up. Managed several largemouth bass 3lb range, tons of smallmouth bass mostly though. great fun. all released. all caught on spinners, crank baits, etc. they munched mostly white, then later green. 8-9 ft water. cheers.
So I’ve been tying the Murdich Minnow a ton lately, tied in a size 4 on a Gamagatsu B10S just smokes smallies here on the Connecticut in western MA. But my frustration is with the Hairline Ice Fur used in the original formula. The hank you receive is pitifully small and only is enough for 5-6 flies. I’ve seen guys using EP fibers on the internets but haven’t tried it. Has anybody used a substitute matierial that goes a little further?
