  1. I moved to Brooklyn this year from Cape Cod. (yeah pretty terrible timing) l spent my first 10 years out of college starting an eCommerce saas product while gillnetting and longlining seasonally. I have fished for stripers my entire life on the tidal flats of the Cape Cod Bay and surfcasting along the national seashore. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or suggestions for shore fishing for stripers in Brooklyn or else in nyc. Any and all advice is very much appreciated. It’s not easy to admit but I am far less of a fisherman than I used to be (or think I am!) Thanks & tight lines
  2. I've seen a lot of content on fishing the bridges, and I know that January is not the best month -- but that's when I'm free and that's when I'm going. Can anyone offer some January-specific DIY fishing advice for the Keys? Pretty much interested in tangling with anything of size that pulls, so not ashamed to pursue sharks, barracudas and jacks in addition to the more "desirable" species. Not looking for meat, just a good time with a buddy. So where should we go in January? What should we target in January? How should we target them in January? Very much appreciate any advice that folks can offer or direction to a thread that addresses this, if I may have missed it.
  3. Hi all, New to the forum but I just recently purchased a couple of Hobie's for me and my son. Any suggestions on good locations to fish, where to launch, etc. Thanks!!
  4. I'm going to do some fishing from shore on the pacific coast of costa rica for a few weeks and was wondering if I could get some suggestions on what tackle would be best since I'm a complete newbee to fishing from shore. I've read a lot of the existing threads and am currently thinking about the following set up: - Okuma Nomad Travel Surf Rod NTS-S-1004MH Other options are the Okuma Nomad Travel Surf Rod NTS-S-904M or the St. Croix Triumph Surf Travel Rod TSRS90M4 or St. Croix Triumph Surf Travel Rod TSRS100M4. Which of these is best suited? Is the 1004MH overpowered for the job? Or are the others underpowered? - Penn Spinfisher VI 5500 Does this reel balance well with the above mentioned rods? Too smal or big? Is it suitable for long casts from shore? - Power Pro Spectra Fiber Braided Fishing Line 30lbs for mainline Does this choice of main line balance well with the rod and reel? - Seaguar Blue Label Fluorocarbon Leader 40lbs for short leader - Spro Power Swivel 130lbs to attach leader to mainline - Tactical Anger's Power Clips 125lbs to attach lure to leader Is this set up well balanced? Am I missing anything? Which lures are recommended? Also how would I go about setting up a live bait rig and what tackle would I need for it? Any suggestions very welcome. Thanks in advance!
  5. So I've been wanting to get into Saltwater fishing for a while now, and I've finally decided go for it. I live in Massachusetts so I'll be fishing from jetties, piers, and from shore. Also I'll be fishing around the Boston area and down near Cape Cod. The fish I'll be targeting will primarily be Striped Bass, Blue Fish, and Black Sea Bass. Currently I'm eyeing the 7,6 MH St. Croix Tidemaster Inshore Spinning Rod paired with a PENN Spinfisher V Spinning Reel. My budget is $350-$400 for both the rod and reel. So what's a good rod/reel for my criteria? Also what rod length should I go for I was thinking of going for 7,6 but having it fit in the car is a concern. Lastly what line should I get? I'm currently thinking of getting 20 pound braid but I'm worried it won't be enough for striper and blue fish.
  6. Anyone fish Buzzards Bay from shore with good results? I've only managed one keeper bass from the bay, and don't control how often I go to the ditch. Is there a big fish potential here?
  7. Hows the bite been at Sandy Point from shore recently? Thinking of heading there for some evening fishing sometime this week. Any topwater action?
  8. Hi, im getting started shore jigging and I don't have a rod good enough (i believe) for it. Can you give me some recommendations for shore jigging rods which aren't expensive (sub $100). And can you tell me what characteristics do I need to look for when buying a shore jigging rod. I currently have 3 rods which i think arent good for SJ Rod 1: Shimano catana dx spinning 2.1m MH 14-40g Rod 2: Ugly Stik gx2 2.1m M 1/8-5/8 oz 6-15lb line rated Rod 3: Shimano TC-II 300 3m 50-100g, thats all the info i got on that one I think they wont be good enough because those 2 are quite short and all are bendy, not stiff Help please
  9. I use to catch GT from jetties and recently started targeting them from open beach. Here is the pic of the GT I caught last week.
  10. New saltwater fisherman. No access to a boat . Predominantly fishing plum island, trying to learn as much as possible. I've had a little success with school stripers at Plum island , using a fish finder rig baited with eels, clams and seaworms on a 6/0 gamakatsu circle hook. Using 50lb power pro braid To a 40 lb leader . What species of fish can be caught off shore ? What hot spots are there in Massachusetts for any species of saltwater fish ? (hot spot for blues, Mack, sea bass, striper etc) What lures work best when targeting blue fish and stripers? Tips for catching more fish ? What seasons are certain species more active? (I heard Blue fish in the summer during the day ) Locations to fish from shore ? Bait tips ?
