  1. Got my black friday Caldia SW a week ago but wonder what size it actually is. Its the 5000D-CXH (left reel) and the Certate LT is a 3000-XH (on the right). I´m not asking respective rotor and spool, which of course is much bigger for the 54mm spool (Certate=48mm) but what body and gear the Caldia SW actually holds. Keep in mind both the Certate 5000D-XH and Caldia SW 5000D-CXH are the same weight with the same spool dimension and both aluminum. I´m pretty sure that both my reels are 3000 size, but what brings that 45g compared to Certate LT5000D-CXH? Maybe a more heavy duty version like Saltist or Certate SW in smaller sizes, thicker frame and rotor? https://www-daiwa-com.translate.goog/jp/fishing/item/reel/spin_rl/certate16a/index.html?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=de&_x_tr_pto=wapp https://www.plat.co.jp/shop/catalog/product_info/language/en/products_id/63040/cPath/4027_4029_4033_7046/reel/daiwa-2022-caldia-sw-5000d-cxh-free-shipping.html
  2. Hi SOL, Looking into getting one of these two reels, would be pairing it with a Lamiglas Infinity 9'2 heavy spinning rod. Plan to throw 1-1.5 oz jigs and Texas rigged swimbaits on it here in Cali, off the rocks for rockfish and also in the surf for perch/halibut/etc. Which reel would be better?
  3. Has anyone fished these rods? I was looking at the 9' med-light for a light surf setup (1/2-3/4oz jigs/plastics for fluke and small stripers). I'm wondering how much it weighs and what taper is really like but also overall impressions. Listed as fast but I'm concerned It might be a little too soft with that length and listed lure weights. I'm also hoping it's pretty light (around 5-6 oz) so I can bomb it all day. Thanks
  4. WTS Great condition Saltist. Serviced last year and returned to the box. Mechanically 10/10 no grinding or harshness. Cosmetically 8/10 small scuff on the spool. Does not impair casting at all. Spooled with I believe 40lb Daiwa samurai braid. Also have a spare handle with an aftermarket Gomexus knob. Great reel that doesn't get used. Looking to get $200 picked up or $220 shipped paypal please.
  5. Fished this reel half a dozen times and never got salt on it. It has a couple small scratches on the body but is in perfect condition overall. Feels like it’s brand new. $170 shipped, Paypal only

  15. Had a nice conversation with Beastly yesterday and I’m looking to see if I can find out some more information. I recall Scooby’s video on the 2018 Saltist Star Drag. There were a number of differences between it and the Saltiga. One being that it has a plastic set plate. I’m curious if we have information/photos on the Trinidad, Ocea Jigger, Tern? Any of the popular Star Drag conventionals? I’ve handled the 2011 Ocea Jigger. I love it. I thought the intervals were supposed to be superior to the Trini. Why do we like it so much? Which are internally actually made the best? I believe the Saltiga has a metal set plate. But I’m not sure. Found some photos from a maintenance tutorial on the Alan Tani site. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks.
  16. For sale is a brand new Saltist 20P. Never fished. Spooled with 40lb jbraid grand. Fantastic reel. Smooth. Well built. 5.1 low gear, great for blackfish. $220 shipped
  17. Scooby did a great tear down video on this reel earlier this year. Then I found out they had a P (5.1 ratio) version. I picked up a 15P for my dad as he doesn't fish much and at $225 (no tax, free shipping, ebay bucks), I figured it was a perfect buy. Hasn't been fished yet, but looking it over, I have to say this is one very well made reel. No it doesn't have 10 bearings. But it has 4 CRBB's and that's more than enough. At least I know the bearings I have are corrosion resistant. 17 pounds of drag is more than enough and even the star drag itself feels comparable to the saltiga. It's very smooth. It's not heavy at all but it feels solid. I was so impressed, I purchased the 20 size for my wreck rod. Figured I didn't need to spend $400 for my least used set up. That all being said, I think for the money it's a better value than a trini, ocea jigger, or saltiga (not to say I wont/dont own them and like having super nice reels).. No, it doesn't have the same amount of refinement, smoothness, high level of gearing, protection and so on and so forth... But it's just a really good reel at a really fair price and you barely hear anything about them. Would've thought the toggers in the North East would have been all over them.
  18. Title says it all; looking for a light dependable reel for 9ft legend. Looking for something that is on the newer side, but used is preferred (should be common as these are newer releases). Will pay cash, trade plugs (GRS, Rare SS, Bigrock, etc.), or a combo of both. Thanks!
  19. Picked up my Daiwa Saltist Inshore rod today from TackleDirect first impressions are really good. This is a super light 1/4-1oz rod perfect for kayak fishing. And for $120 you can't beat the price. I also wasn't expecting to see the kayak strap that came with it. I'm really surprised these aren't marketed as kayak rods. The butt is a perfect length. Will do a in depth review later.
