  1. I've found a glaring hole in my arsenal (or an excuse to buy more gear..). I'm looking to get something throw smaller/mid sized plugs in the back and around bridges. I need something to fit in-between b 7ft 6 M Avid inshore and 9ft 6 Tsunami airwave elite. Probably around 8ft 1/2-2oz preferably 1 piece. I already own a 8ft mojo surf but its really just used for tossing tins to to bluefish at inlets since it doesn't throw the lighter stuff too well. I am thinking about pulling the trigger on an avid inshore 8ft MH but my only concern is those rods are pretty fast and this rod will be mostly be used with treble hooks. Let me know you guys think. Thanks in advance.
  2. Been fishing along the SF Coast lately (Daly City, Pacifica, Half Moon, etc) and i'm targeting Striper and surf perch mainly, as well as been trying crab snaring for dungies. I have an absolute cheap as chips combo rod and reel that i initially bought just snaring and it's worked okay but its SO HARD to use. The rod is a [Master Spectra 3215-BK 10' Spinning Rod]* Today at the beach the reel seat came detached from the blank and the reel seat now spins around the blank. I drilled some shallow holes in the seat with a drill press and injected glue into it to set it back but i'm fed up with the rod and reel (the reel is even worse than the rod). I'm in the SF Bay area and targeting striper and serf perch primarily but I also want to try for halibut occasionally and potentially salmon if i take it on a boat off coast. What length should I get to accomodate this variety? I was thinking 11' since i'm be on a beach mostly but would that be too long to take on a boat? And what about for crab snares as well? Would a slightly smaller rod be better for snares? Snares can get extremely heavy and I don't wanna break the rod if it's not meant for that. I'd rather get another cheap beefier rod (Daiwa Beefstick?) for snares if i can't safely accommodate it on this striper/perch/halibut rod. As for the reel i was originally thinking of a Daiwa BG Saltwater spinning reel since i have a BG 2500 that i use for general lake/river fishing (largemouth, catfish, trout, shad). I've heard some both really great and really bad things about Penn Spinfisher and i'm considerng that as well. I can't find any clear recommendations on Shimano but i know they make great stuff. I'm not sure what size reel to get, is there any reason not to get 8000? Is that way too overkill for this? Should I got 4000 or 4500 instead since i'll be slinging this from a beach for hours at a time? Budget for Rod+Reel is ~200-250. Next, can i get some tips for what tackle should I use for Striper and Surf Perch in the SF Bay coast line? I heard something about Lucky Craft 110 and i've never used/seen them before, should I order one and try it out? I primarily use sandcrab for bait with a size 8 baitholder, is this too small? Which rigs are commonly used? So far i've used fish-finder rig and carolina rig, with a high-low used once but no luck on it. Primarily fish-finder has been lucky for me but i'm not sure. What about weights? How much weight should i slap on each rid?

  9. Experienced fresh water bass fisherman. Less experienced with salt/surf. Vacation on Cape Cod 1-2 weeks/year. My 25+ year old surf rod and reel need updating. Generally throwing chunks from the beach on high/low rig with 2-4 oz. pyramid weight, but also want the flexibility to throw SPs, Deadly Dicks, 9" Sluggos. Considering a rod between 9'6" and 11". Current front-runners are Tsunami Airwave, Mojo Surf, or Avid. If possible, I'd like to have longer piece no greater than 86 inches (so it fits in my rod carrier). Am I asking too much? Any advice is appreciated.

I was told this is the "better" early version that was made in Thailand. Still in the original plastic packaging but bag has been opened. 21. Hey guys, first time poster here, long time fisherman. Born and raised on Cape Cod, I’ve been fishing for over 20 years, 10 of which I’d consider “serious”, and figured I’d try to make my first post here somewhat interesting and informative. * This past spring I had contacted Lou Caruso about a potential build for an all-around Cape Cod Canal rod. Something similar to a Slingshot 1328 (which I had already owned). Lou being Lou is much more in tune with new companies and the quality of the blanks being released. I told him what I’d be looking for out of a rod, what I threw for plugs/jigs/Swimmers etc, and Lou turned me onto ODM, specifically the 11’ 4-10oz Jigster. He spoke of the incredibly wide range this blank can throw, its ability to lean on fish in the tide, and he thought it would be a perfect fit for what I was looking for. I didn’t want be that guy with 17 rods in his bike, and really wanted to narrow it down to just 2-3 max (one being a lighter schoolie/albie setup). Rated for up to 33 pounds of drag and 4-10oz lures I was expecting this blank to be a heavy telephone pole, and frankly had my doubts. I contacted CMS and had the opportunity to throw their 10’ model with a variety of my stuff, and immediately put a build into place. So after being paired with a Saltiga 6500h, over the next 2 months of fishing I would throw everything from SP minnows (the 1 7/8oz salt pro) to 7.5 oz. Bill Hurley’s (paddle tail included), and even an 8 oz trolling stick shad, jigging, plugging, and taking fish up to 44 pounds in moontides, I can say without question this blank is incredible. I own Century rods, Lamiglas, Cousins/Ron Arra, St. Croix, and TFO and you can see me fishing them in any of my videos. This was the first time I felt compelled to make a video about a product just to show people what it could do. It’s not a technical video, just casting a multitude of plugs and jigs before showing the Jigster take down a #35 on a 3 oz pencil. Don’t let the name fool you, this is not a jigging only rod. A big thanks to CMS for doing such quality work, the seamless transitions and wrapping done is beautiful. So take the video for what it’s worth. This is directed mainly at my fellow canal rats as another potential option to consider. I look forward to becoming a contributing member of this forum!
  22. I have an el cheapo 7 ft MH Daiwa Samurai rod that cost me about $15 that I use for snagging bunker and it casts a crazy mile. I've had people around me oohing and ahhhing as I cast that snagger into the next town over. :P I also have a 6,6 ft MH Shimano Voltaeus that I bought on sale for $20. There's a youtube video of a guy catching a 100 lb shark with it. I like it when I want something stout and short to fish with in a hurry from a pier.
