  1. I’m considering buying a van staal vs 50. What do you guys think? Is there any better option Ford light plugging
  2. Hello all. Its my first time here at this forum. I am from Europe, Portugal. There is no Daiwa Saltist Back-Bay to sell in Europe, but this year Daiwa released Daiwa BG RR ARK. My question is if anyone knows if the internal mechanics are same in the two reels (machine aluminium gears)? Or even if the reels are the same but with only some aesthetics diferences. And about the sealing in the back bay? I have seen tackle advisors review but didnt understand how it compares to other reels in terms os sealing (comparing to spinfisher vi or slammer 3 in 4000 sizes). Regards
  3. Looking for a slightly lighter set up than my SaltX 6000 and 10'6" Lamiglas to fish the North Shore of Long Island. Bought my heavier setup last year and I'm really happy with it but looking for something lighter that can still pull in nice holdover stripers! Also, not trying to break the bank... Any rec's on rods, reels, # test line I can use, and anything else on good spring lures/plugs/bait would be appreciated!
  4. While cleaning out my parents house I came across a bunch of old reels. There are some old Hendryx, Penn, Mitchel and various other reels. I am sure they aren't worth much but I think they look cool and since they were my dad's I would like to display them somehow in my fly tying area. I know I can just put up a few shelves but anyone have any other ideas? I was thinking maybe old reclaimed wood or something.
  5. Two - New Accurate Fury 400 $225.00 each They are paired with Catch the Fever rods that are also brand new. I will sell them with the rods if you are interested at $325.00 per combo. These reels are both new, never hit the water, I have a box for one and lost the other box. The Fury is Accurate's entry into the single drag market. These reels are designed with all the precision and power you come to expect from Accurate.
  7. Hi all. Looking to up my game and get 2 new casting setups that can throw at least 8oz (maybe up to 10) for Assateague. Currently using 11ft 2-6oz Penn Battalion setups but had trouble holding bottom last time. I cant always pick best weather when I get a chance off to head down from Baltimore. Looking to spend medium to decent money... maybe 600 total but dont hold back on more $ recommendations. Prefer options readily available somewhere and on short notice (maybe even buy by Friday or Sat. Rods- any recommendations on 11, 12, or 13fters? Glass or graphite? Need to be 2 piece cus I roll in a wrangler tj. Reels- im new to conventional casting so what reel is best? Considering 2 Abu Blue Yonder 7500s cus the mag cast control. Anything cheeper that still has mag control and good? I have heard Mono is prob best for conventional. 20 or 25lb? Colors like hi-vis Green KastKing ok? I usually use a 50lb big game shock leader for my 6oz setups... do I need to go to 80 or 100lb for throwing 8 or 10ozs? Lastly I am also planning on getting 4 long beach spikes... the ones that hold reel at chest level. Any instructions for self making or a guy that makes and sells them? Cheers Guys!
  8. Hi All, I have looked at expanding my tackle universe to include a conventional casting outfit, and am looking at a reel like the Calcutta 200D (actually the 201D, because I run that way.) I hope to use it for not too heavy plugging, bucktailing, jigging Avas and maybe fluking. Does anyone have a rod they'd pair with a reel like this? Given a choice I'd opt for something not too pricey. The reel alone will be the most expensive single piece of gear I've ever bought that I couldn't sit in. Thanks! (This is my first post here. I'm a Striper Surf refugee.)
  9. Brand new. Never used. Has 25lbs backing. Just removed 40lbs 300yds braid. Only $80 pickup. $90 shipped PayPal.

  11. Looking to sell three reels. All in great shape and were serviced over the winter. I have not used them at all this year. All prices include freight. Paypal only. Shimano Bait Runner Thunnus 8000 Ci4, hardly ever used. $225.00. Spooled with 30 lbs Spiderwire, box included. Shimano Ultegra CI4+ XTC 14000, $250. I won this a 2 years ago in Striper Cup. Used it a couple of times to watch a cast sail for miles but that's all. It is spooled with 30 lb Yellow PowerPro Maxcuatro. Shimano Ultegrat Ci4 XTB 5500. $200. This one is about 4 years old. Great Shape, comes with all three spools filled with power pros. One is 50 lb Yellow SuperSlick, the other spool is 30 Lb Blue SuperSlick, the last one is 30 lb standard Moss Green Power Pro.
  12. Hello! I’m looking to learn more about surf fishing. I have some experience with surf fishing where I would tag along with a friend of mine when he sets out to fish at the beach out on Long Island, NY. Although I have a pretty good sense on casting out and reeling in, I know that there is much more to fishing than just casting and reeling. I am seeking for more knowledge when it comes to rods, reels, lines, lures and etc. Any advice, tips, techniques and guidance for a beginner wanting to become good at surf fishing is appreciated.

  14. Picked up a Star Rod Plasma II the split grip one the Rod rating is 6-14lb 7ft. What reel would you put in it and why? Currently fishing in Florida and just looking at my options! Your opinions are important! Its a spinning rod!
  15. Looking for a new reel I'm interested in the penn slammer 3. Or the saragusa. 8k. PLEASE send me pictures of what you got thank you
  16. Ok I need guidance, just moved to Long Island and love fishing. I never realized how much goes into the sport. I have a lot to learn. The last two seasons i’ve Been surf fishing but with not much luck( yes, i’m a bait soaker). I have tried some lures ( buck tails, diamond jig, spoons) out a few times but since I didn’t know what I was doing I kinda gave up. I have yet to catch a fish on a lure. I would like to be able to learn the lures and someday catch a damn fish. I have been to the trusty YouTube watched a few videos in hopes that things would change this year. Watched vids on how to tie different rigs, on how to read the beach which I still don’t know if I’m doing right. My gear so far: 10’ st croix mojo surf paired with penn battle 6000 12’ penn rod with penn fierce 2 live liner 8000 the 6000 has 40lb braid I believe the 8000 has 50lbs mono i think both rods are medium to heavy what the hell do I need to do other than “ get out and fish more”? More YouTube I guess any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
  17. Have a Lami tri flex 7030 that I use for bottom fishing and currently have a penn fathom 15 on it which I like but the reel is slightly to wide for my liking. I'm looking to take the jump into the higher tier of star drag reels but I'm really looking for one that has a smaller profile specifically having a narrower spool. Does anyone have experience fishing one of the smaller Daiwa saltigas, Shimano trinidads/ocea jiggers or Accurate Terns on a Lami triflex 7030 and can let me know what they think. Thanks in advance.
  18. I'm a complete newbie. So far I have only been using trout gear I had on hand. I can't jump in at the $300+ rig level and so I am shopping around for modest setups. Durability and all that is a top concern for me since I am new and will probably abuse things more than an experienced angler would. My question is this... do you really think that a $200 reel lasts 4 times longer than a $50 reel, or whatever other math and multipliers you can think of? Why not get $30-$50 reels and consider them kind of disposable?
  19. Specifically after rinsing your reel off. I know you should use reel oil for the best results, but has anyone had any experience with WD 40 on reels for rust prevention etc?
  20. Has anyone had a chance to check out the Tsunami Forged 8? It looks like it has some decent specs and was wondering if anyone on here has any experience fishing the bigger sizes which I believe are the 10 & 12? The price on the reel also seems to be very reasonable, I believe it's around $170 which is less then other reels in it's class just based on its specs.
  21. Hello! I'm wondering if anyone could suggest some intermediate saltwater spinning reels to be paired up with my Ugly Stik elite spinning rod, its a 7 ft, medium power, 2 piece. The fish i'll mainly be targeting are Striped bass, Bluefish and Fluke. Reel sizes I'm looking for are 3000-4500 but if you have a size suggestion go ahead and tell me about it! I'm looking to spend 100$ or less, but if I have to i'll spend more in the name of fishing! ANY suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!
  22. Reel repair gurus I need your help. So just before heading out to fish this evening, I checked my Calcutta 300 D, all was well, functioned as it should have. Fast forward 25 minutes and on the first cast the spool won't turn. The thumb bar clicks up when the handle is turned, but the gear isn't engaging the spool. Got home and gave it a quick look, but can't see anything obvious that would cause the issue. This is the second time it's happened in less than a year, sent it out to Shimano for repairs last time. Before I box it up and drop the $50 for service, is there anything that I might be able to do here to get me back in business? Thanks.
  23. I have the opportunity to pick up a Penn Slammer 3 for a pretty good price. I've fished Shimano / VS forever. Maybe you guys can help. What are your thoughts about this reel? How does it fish compared to a Saragosa? Any pros / cons? Pairing this with my Lami 1081L --- Should I buy the 3500, 4500, 5500? I was thinking 4500. Thanks for the help!
  24. I have an old penn 104 reel and rod that I dug up from my teen years. I broke it down and gave her some TLC and is working great again so i threw on some left over 30 lb power pro and im going to make it the loaner rod for friends who come out with me. Most likely people who don't fish often/ ever and don't have their own gear. My question is, should I use the PP as backing and add mono on top? or just splice in more PP? I was thinking 15 lb mono. I got roughly 100 yards PP on and it should fit another 100 or so yards 15# mono. Or should i go up/ down with the mono? I'll be using a 50 lb fluro leader. I know PP benefit is its thinner compared to mono of same strength ( 1/4 diameter or something if i remember correctly) so with backing i get more line cap as long as i dropped. Primarily fishing for bass and blues inshore, both boats and from rocks around Boston/ Narraganset bay but im starting to get into albie this season with my inshore spinning setup (stradic 5k on 7' 3/8-2 oz), so i'd some flexibility. Primarily throw plugs/ softbaits. If im trolling ill use my convention setups so not for this thread. Thanks all
  25. Looking to get my kids into fishing and I’m looking for 3 reels. Penn 4-5 hundred series shimano baitrunner 3500b-4500b im south of Boston. As for rods, I’ll pair them up with ugly sticks for the abuse.
