  1. Hey all, New to the forum - came across a few posts on Google while searching for a new reel. I'm looking to get a new Daiwa reel for my 9ft Ocean Master (Medium 1-3oz), mostly targeting Stripers in the surf (both nearshore bays and ocean). I'm on the fence between the SS2600 and BG4000. I'm very familiar with the SS Tournament series as I've been using various sizes of that model my whole life, from freshwater Bassing (700 & 1300) to Fluking in the bays (1600). I've read really good things about the BG4000, and the price/specs are almost identical minus the extra ball bearings in the BG, just can't seem to get myself to buy it just yet. I really enjoy the feel of the SS series and it would be a nice transition up from the 1600 for a surf rod, but the BG might be a bit smoother and more resistant to salt and the elements. Still, leaning towards the SS2600 due to trust/familiarity. (Note: Already looked into the 4500, it's a bit too big at 22oz for what I'm trying to do. Rather cast lures/jigs than chuck bait). Anyone have experience with both of these reels and can help me decide a winner? Appreciate any insight!
  2. I’m looking for my first tuna rod and reel for party boat chunking. I was thinking a Penn Fathom 2 speed in 30 or 40NLD spooled with 80lb braid. Paired with a Saint Croix Mojo Salt 7’ HF rated for 65-100lb braid, a Shimano Tallus, or a dark matter HK. Maybe a Kevin Bogan rod if it’s worth the extra $. I don’t want to be undergunned in case I hook a large fish but also don’t want overkill. Budget around $700 for rod and reel. Thoughts?
  3. Tsunami Saltx 6000 (silver) spooled with Power Pro Braid 20 LB paired with Okuma Cedros CSX 1002 MH (50/50 split). Both in excellent condition. Selling or trading for lighter combo . Sell for 400. I have original box (packaging with a tool for servicing) from the Saltx. Can ship for 50 dollars (will separate reel from the rod and use two shipments. The rod will come in PVC tube). Pick up in LIC (NYC).
  4. Hi all I need a handle for a daiwa bg 4000 reel thanks
  5. I'm probably going to regret selling this reel, but I am selling a couple of spare reels to make up for recent splurging on jigging tackle. Believe it or not, I have sold and purchased the same reel I sold on the BTS forum in the past (Shimano Talica), LOL. Anyway, up for sale is Shimano Trinidad 16A reel. I'm the first owner and I took it on 2 or 3 trips. I upgraded the handle to a power handle ($35 handle from Reel Power Handles) and I'm including the stock handle as well. I have the box and papers. It's spooled with 85 lb Sufix 832 braid. I would say cosmetically, it's 9/10 and mechanically it's 10/10. I personally didn't see anything wrong cosmetically, but since it went on a few trips, I'm sure there could be hard-to-see blemishes. Please take a close look at the pictures if that matters to you. Power handle had benign scratches on it when I bought it. I am selling the reel for $435 (Paypal). Thanks!
  6. I am just beginning to get into surf fishing and I’m looking to purchase a rod and a reel. Any suggestions on an affordable set up for a rod, reel, line and etc.? What brands are best for rod and reels? Looking to spend less than $200 for everything. Thanks!
  7. For sale is a used but in good working condition come with 3 extra spool with 30 and 40 lb braid $140 ship PayPal
  8. Fell in love with these Orvis Hydros SL reels and as with most things over-indulged more than a little bit. Hoping to move some of them on. All are new, in boxes, with neoprene cases. Reels all include tool. V reel 9,10,11 wt. $235 V spool. $110 both. $325 IV reel 7, 8, 9 wt. $210/each or $400 for both. Need money for this other thing I absolutely have to have now. As always obro. prices include usps to continental US!
  9. Hi just wondering what size reel would be ok on an 11 foot tsunami for pencil popping? I want to put the new slammer dx 5500 on it, but worried it would be small?
  10. Want to buy a line counter reel for trolling MOJO rigs please let me know what you have thanks
  11. Fiberstar Composite Predator blank with Fuji and American parts custom wrapped. Blank is about $220, parts/materials about $150, labor about $200. Reel is a new Penn Torque II 5000 with 40lb power pro line $700 Take the total package for $800 before the season start.
  12. Up for sale is my used with box Star S7000 spinning reel, currently in bail-less configuration. Bail and components are included in the box. I have no idea what the braid is on it, came spooled from previous owner. One small blemish shown it the photos. Everything shown in the pics is what you get. 125$ shipped to conus + PP 3%. I think venmo now has purchase protection for something like .019% plus .10cents? I would accept that for payment as well. TRADES : I am interested in similarly valued 12' surf rods with up to 8oz ratings+. I know they are not economical to ship, but throwing it out there. May be willing to add cash for a rod that I cannot live without. I am also interested in long cast surf model spinning reels. I also am willing to add cash for a reel that I am very interested in.
  13. Looking to buy a new or lightly used Penn Slammer 3. I'm located in Philly. Thank you.
  14. Just picked up a new in box Daiwa Cross Cast reel (sealed and all with tamperproof packaging), it seems to be a bad leak but I'm not familiar with what might have caused it. As you can see from the photo one of the sides is totally slick with oil. Is it defective from the factory (meaning I should contact the retailer asap) or did someone just apply way too much oil (and it'll be OK if I just wipe it off)? Any advice is much appreciated!
  15. Hi SOL, In the market for a 12 ft+ surf rod (50/50 split) and reel that can sling a 4-5 oz sinker and a big chunk of squid as far as it will go. Looking for a combo that is as light as possible and not terribly expensive as I'll be using it on the rocks here in California. From the research I've done, looks like the Shimano Speedmaster with the Ultegra 5500 XTD Ci4+ is a possibility but want to hear what others with more experience have to say. Thx!
  16. I have a Seigler SGN Lefty in new condition with box, receipt, rod clamp. No scratches and barely used. I purchased it several months ago for togging and loaded it with 30# super slick. I would be open to trades for a lefty Avet SXJ g2 plus a little cash coming my way, or a nautilus NVG 6/7 with cash coming your way. Otherwise thinking $270 for the reel without trade. It saves the purchaser $100 if you were to buy a new sgn and load it with line. Preference of person to person transaction, if not buyer responsible for shipping/fees. Thanks!
  17. Selling this practically brand new Saragosa 6k, purchased 1 month ago. Used once. Comes with original box and paperwork. No scratches. It’s spooled with 300+ yards of 20lb spiderwire ultracast. Asking 280 +shipping
  18. Selling my black Accurate Boss Valiant 800. Awesome reel. Box included. Loaded with 80lb hollowcore braid and ~100ft of 60lb mono top shot. $500, cash and local pickup in NJ preferred. Willing to ship and do payment through paypal *
  19. New to surf fishing. Looking to buy a Saltx 4000. Thanks
  20. If you don’t have the budget for a Van Staal what would be your next pick. Comparison points besides budget would be a quality materials, dependable drag and mechanics, performance and rugged durability for surf fishing. Size larger than 4000 but not a boat reel. Plenty of articles out there but would love to hear from experience.
  21. I’m looking to buy a new spinning reel for a 1-5oz 10’ surf rod this coming year and was wondering what reels you’d recommend. My budget for this reel would be maxed at $400. Any thoughts?
  22. I am looking to get a new surf fishing setup to upgrade from my garbage $50 combo. After a lot of research I think i'm starting to settle on a Spinfisher VI (although right now Slammer IIIs can be found for cheaper than spinfishers, i don't like that the min drag on a slammer is so high). I have never used a Long Cast or a Bail-less reel and both interest me, i don't think i'd mind the lack of a bail as it's one less part that can break due to salt/sand ingress; and I feel like any advantage to casting distance is a plus (why aren't long casts more common?). So i have a few questions: 1) Why is there no Long Cast + Bail-less reel? Can I convert a Long-Cast into a bail-less long cast or will removing the bail allow for salt/sand ingress or throw off the balance of the reel when i crank it? 2) Can anyone with experience with the Long Cast version tell me how much difference it makes? 3) If the reel gets dunked or i crank it underwater, will it last? What parts are likely to rust/corrode and are they easily replaceable?
  23. Looking to sell Penn Spinfisher VI 5500 reel. Reel is barely used, maybe 3-4 short outings. Is also less than a year old, have box, paper, shims, and is spooled with 300yrds of 30# Suffix 832 braid. Looking to get $120 picked up or $135 shipped. Pick up is Milford CT area.
  24. I'm booked to go on Yakee Capts Pulley Ridge LITE trip next year and I'll be going with my buddy, who doesn't have any boat tackle. Unfortunately, they don't rent gear for this particular trip. My buddy is a lefty, so I'm looking to get a used reel that he can use and I have two kids who are lefties as well, so I figure they can use it when they are old enough. Recommended reel for the trip: Shimano Trinidad 20 or 30 Shimano Torium 20 or 30 Shimano Talica II 16 Daiwa Saltist 40 50 lb braid Looking for open face (No levelwind). Picture with description of the condition would be great. I will consider other similar reels as well, as long as it's under my budget. Thanks in advance!
  25. Have had this old Abbey & Imbrie Sea Bright 250 reel for a while and cannot find much information about it. Looks nice on my desk, but I am wondering if it has any value as a collectible or if it just old. Seems to be in working order. Appreciate any information. Thanks.
