  3. Been fishing along the SF Coast lately (Daly City, Pacifica, Half Moon, etc) and i'm targeting Striper and surf perch mainly, as well as been trying crab snaring for dungies. I have an absolute cheap as chips combo rod and reel that i initially bought just snaring and it's worked okay but its SO HARD to use. The rod is a [Master Spectra 3215-BK 10' Spinning Rod]* Today at the beach the reel seat came detached from the blank and the reel seat now spins around the blank. I drilled some shallow holes in the seat with a drill press and injected glue into it to set it back but i'm fed up with the rod and reel (the reel is even worse than the rod). I'm in the SF Bay area and targeting striper and serf perch primarily but I also want to try for halibut occasionally and potentially salmon if i take it on a boat off coast. What length should I get to accomodate this variety? I was thinking 11' since i'm be on a beach mostly but would that be too long to take on a boat? And what about for crab snares as well? Would a slightly smaller rod be better for snares? Snares can get extremely heavy and I don't wanna break the rod if it's not meant for that. I'd rather get another cheap beefier rod (Daiwa Beefstick?) for snares if i can't safely accommodate it on this striper/perch/halibut rod. As for the reel i was originally thinking of a Daiwa BG Saltwater spinning reel since i have a BG 2500 that i use for general lake/river fishing (largemouth, catfish, trout, shad). I've heard some both really great and really bad things about Penn Spinfisher and i'm considerng that as well. I can't find any clear recommendations on Shimano but i know they make great stuff. I'm not sure what size reel to get, is there any reason not to get 8000? Is that way too overkill for this? Should I got 4000 or 4500 instead since i'll be slinging this from a beach for hours at a time? Budget for Rod+Reel is ~200-250. Next, can i get some tips for what tackle should I use for Striper and Surf Perch in the SF Bay coast line? I heard something about Lucky Craft 110 and i've never used/seen them before, should I order one and try it out? I primarily use sandcrab for bait with a size 8 baitholder, is this too small? Which rigs are commonly used? So far i've used fish-finder rig and carolina rig, with a high-low used once but no luck on it. Primarily fish-finder has been lucky for me but i'm not sure. What about weights? How much weight should i slap on each rid?

  8. Penn Intl II 50 TW cosmetic boat rash no cracks, all functions work as they should. Custom built quality rod no markings except guides and butt 5' white blank wrapped in black and red gold, looks to be about a 130 class. Aftco guides all turning with removable Pacific Bay Alum butt. The rod is cosmetically excellent. $450 cash and carry, new Bedford pickup no offers at this time, will not separate. See Photos. Was at CMS yesterday, the similar rods 400 to 500+. Will run about a week here first then to Craigs. Thank You

  10. How does the Penn SSM - if anyone here has used it, (https://pennfishing.com.au/product/penn-spinfisher-metal-spinning-reel/) compare to the Penn Z series (https://www.pennfishing.com/penn-reels-spinning-reels-penn-z/penn-z-series-spinning/1315424.html#start=16)? I have read a few articles and reviews about the 704z being generally hard wearing and bulletproof, being able to be used while submerged, merely requiring a clean and grease afterwards (apparently it's a poor man's van staal) etc. I cannot seem to find an assembly manual for the 704z online, if anyone has one available, could you please post it onto this thread or PM me? To clarify, I am from Australia, so the products that I have available to me appear to be different to the products available to the general demographic of this forum; this seems to be a mostly American forum. I have also uploaded the schematics for the reel available to me, if there are any Z series owners wanting to compare notes and figure if my reel will be as bulletproof. ( https://www.reelschematic.com/wp-content/uploads/schematics/Penn/Spinning/Spinfisher Z Series/Penn 704Z (2007).pdf) I found the schematics for the 704Z. EDIT: Also, the reason why I would like to find out is because I intend on doing a little bit of swimming out to some rock platforms here, I don't really want to use the reel submerged, but I expect it will be submerged for a prolonged period of time during the swim. EDIT2: After taking a look at the 704z schematic, it seems that the reel itself is incredibly basic; it doesn't have as many ball bearings as the 650ssm. Is that also another reason why the 704Z is so easy to clean? Thanks, JF

  14. Anyone fish with the Ultegra and have any issues with the line not laying on the spool? Making some casts yesterday and the line kept getting caught under the spool. Wondering if it could be too much line but I usually don't fill to the brim anyway, Can't remember exactly how much line I had put on it but it wasn't more than the recommendation. I ended up just making sure I flipped the bail right when my lure hit the water so there wasn't extra line to get caught when I started reeling. Just kind of a pain to check each time. It almost looks like the part under the spool should be higher. Thanks! Al

  21. Looking to stock up on striper/albie flies. If there's someone that wants to tie up a batch in exchange for my Hydros SL IV (perfect 8-weight), that's preferable. I just had it refurbished directly through Orvis. The clutch release mechanism needed replaced, and it's as good as new now. Comes with the protective pouch.
  22. Have a couple of different reels that have broken feet to attach to a rod. A replacement side plate with an intact foot is not available anymore. My thought was to cut off the foot from a scraped mitchell head and weld it in place of the orvis foot. One welder told me it is "pot metal" and probably couldn't be welded. I don't think that JB Weld would work. Has anyone had any luck with this type of repair?? Thanks
  23. Checking the web for 19 LT Certate series, I came up watching Daiwas subbed japanese introduction on YT (pretty slow pase, check 1,25x or 1,5x speed) : I´m pretty surprised they call the Aluminium framed "secondary reel" 1.3-times stronger than Magnesium-Alloys (@ 7m30s), degrading their own flagship reel (Exist). Is this about right, Aluminium beeing about 30% stronger than same dimension Mag-Alloys (containing some Al as well)? Beside the material, do Certate and Exist have the same reel chassis?
  24. Looking for a spool or two for my T10 reel. Possibly interested in another reel. Bonus points for tropical 10wt lines. Thank you!
