  1. Hey, all. I know there are folks here who have been fishing the Block for decades. I've been visiting BI since the early '70s, and in recent years have run into some weirdness in some of the west side coves, specifically Grace's and Dorie's (or Dorry's, Dory's, or Dorrie's -- what the hell?). I'm curious: Have others found that fish are less plentiful there in recent years than off of other parts of the island? Dorie's used to be my go-to spot when all else failed, and maybe it's just one of those inexplicable dry spells we all encounter. But this dry spell feels different. At the same time, I've had better luck on the northeast of the island than I have in the past -- around Settlers Rock, for example. Have others noticed that Dorie's has seemed a bit dry in the past few years? Or is it just me? Thanks.
  2. The winds are supposed to shift from out of the Northeast later this week. Why is this a bad thing? I thought if the winds come from the Northeast, Montauk Point was the place to be? Is this the same for the open south shore beaches? What about the north shore? Shouldn't that push the bait up close to the shoreline on the North Shore? Would it push the bait out to sea on the south shore? The wind should be at your back on the south shore, so should be easier to cast?
  3. Hey all, This question go out to all who have experience or intel on fishing the south beaches of Florida. Within the next few weeks I will be traveling to the beaches of southern Florida. I am looking to surf cast off the beach for just about whatever bites! I have every piece of fishing tackle a striped bass fisherman could want, however I am extremely ignorant on what to fish down south to target the sport fish of Florida. I plan on bringing a selection of lures to cover the water column but I was curious as to what you all would recommend to bring with me. Thanks
  4. Remember that they are just a stupid fish, and they will eat a hook with padding from a box spring... Not much action from the material, but holds a good profile, only takes a few minutes to tie, and can be colored to match any bait around! Materials consist of sidewall padding from a box spring, lead wire, WTP eyes, and sharpies. Let's see some more flies with unconventional materials.
  5. What is your preferred method of catching stripers off the surf in NJ and NY during the month of April? April seems to be getting colder every year and was wondering if it has changed the strategy for most surf fishermen in the area.
