  1. Hello all, Thanks in advance for any comments or opinions. I’m in the market for a new “all around beach rod” for fishing all around Cape Cod and Massachusetts south shore area. The terrain is mostly sand/gravel beaches w a few boulders here/there and usual tidal current. Target is stripers and blues mostly. Throwing all the usuals, hard plastics like SP minnows, Redfins, Yo Zuri minnows...etc, Danny’s, darters, soft plastics like sluggos, paddle tails and some tins, and bucktail jigs. All ranging in weight from 1 oz to maybe 2.75 oz ish. My reel is a Shimano Ultegra Ci4 5500 carbon frame, 15 oz, spooled w 30 lb pp. My rod choices include the following 2 piece rods, in “order of ranking” (just my best guess opinion) 1. Shimano Tirelejo 9’-6”, 3/4–3 oz..................$300 2. Tsunami Saltx 9’-6”, 3/4–3 oz.......................$280 3. Lamiglas GSB Skinner2 9’-2”, 3/4–3 oz........$400 4. Tsunami Elite 9’-6”, 3/4–3 oz........................$200 Does anyone own any of these rods and feel my ranking is “not accurate”.....which would be your choice for my intended use? Thanks again for any first hand experience with these rods. Rob

  3. Hi guys, Long time reader of this forum and the time has come to seek for advice. Don't beat me up right away, since i have already used a search function in order to find the best fishing rod for the Canal. Basically have two questions: 1. I am looking for a spinning rod that could be a good fit for the PENN Slammer 3 6500 High Speed. I am primarily looking for jigging, throwing jerkbaits, maybe even throwing chunks from the surf occasionally, with the least priority given to the topwater lures. Is there any rod that is multifunctional and does everything not perfect, but just good? Anything in 2-8 oz range. 10-12Ft. Budget: $350. I currently use 9ft Star stellar 1-4 oz fast, but this is definitely not enough to make long casts on the Canal. I have stopped my choice on St. Croix Mojo Surf and St. Croix Avid Surf, but i have seen a lot of debates on perfect rod for the Canal and there are a lot of opinions about my choice being not a very reliable one. People seem to give their favor mostly to everything from ODM Jigster, TFO, Star Paraflex, XSRA 1205, Tsunami Airwave Elite to 600$+ custom made poles. But unfortunately, i can not try every single rod and learn from mistakes, especially by spending seasons of trial and error and thousands of dollars). Please advice! 2. I would also love to hear any comments on SLAMMER 3 6500 HIGH SPEED as well, since i haven't seen a soul using it on the Canal. Seems to be a really good reel with an amazing retrieve rate (48 inches per crank!). Which reels are competitors to this one? (besides Saragosa) Thank you very much for any advice in advance, truly appreciate it.

  7. I need to build a new snook rod as I sold my current one on a whim through Craig’s List this evening. The one I sold was a Batson Rainshadow SW 1087 (rated 3/4 to 4 oz, 15#~25# line) set up with KR Fuji guides. I liked it very much, but it seemed a little to stiff for the 3/4 to 1-1/2 oz buck tails and lures I was using it for. I sold it to a guy who is taking it to Oregon to bait fish for salmon, so it found a good home. If I were to build that rod again, I would reverse the spine so that the natural curve goes up (spinning set up) to soften it a wee bit on the cast and maybe make the rod more stable on the cast (comments appreciated). Anyway, I am shopping for blanks and am looking at stuff rated 1/2~2 ounces for this new build. I figure I should be able to throw 3/4 oz to 1-1/2 oz buck tails and SP minnows well and still be able to throw my smaller 5/8 oz plugs so it would be more versatile. The heaviest lure I own is 2-1/8 oz and it only comes out occasionally if at all. The specific application is shore fishing in a few inlets on the west coast of Florida for snook (slot size is 28” to 34”) using mostly 1 oz Flare Hawks (a type of bucktail) and lures around 1 oz plus or minus a little. The water is moving, but not to fast. I would really like to stay under $150 for the blank. I have three in mind and was hopeful that some of you ladies and gentlemen could comment on their suitability for the task at hand or recommend something I might have overlooked. Lamiglass 1018 L, 9’ (1/2~2-1/2 oz) Black Hole Suzuki, 10’ (1/2~2 oz) (obligatory inclusion on this forum as of late) Batson Rainshadow SU1264F. 10.5’ (1/2~2 oz) I will probably be building them with a Fuji KR setup and pairing it with a Daiwa BG 4000 and/or a Stradic 4000. It doesn’t matter to me if it s one or two piece. Any and all comments are appreciated.
  8. Can anyone compare and contrast any of the three following rods? Lamiglass 1018 L, 9’ (1/2~2-1/2 oz) Black Hole Suzuki, 10’ (1/2~2 oz) Batson Rainshadow SU1264F. 10.5’ (1/2~2 oz) The specific application is shore fishing in a few inlets on the west coast of Florida for snook (slot size is 28” to 34”) using mostly 1 oz Flare Hawks (a type of bucktail) and lures around 1 oz plus or minus a little.
