  1. Lamiglas black Inshore 7040C rated 3-12. Basically brand new only used twice with no fish under its belt yet. Great little bottom fishing rod just feels a tad light for what I plan on doing. Asking $85 picked up in Hull MA. Will post pics after work. Thanks fellas
  2. Anyone own any of these rods who can give an honest review? I have my eye on either the 7030c or 7040c for heavier bottom fishing applications. Thanks!
  3. Hello, I'm hoping to start a thread where people who do freshwater or saltwater fishing could share information and possibly meet up and go fishing. I live in Boston and have been kayak fishing for little over a year all freshwater throughout MA and NH, I'm looking to start doing some saltwater fishing and would love to meet/go out with others who are more experienced in inshore/offshore fishing. I was out in Dorchester Bay for the first time 2 weeks ago and caught a few stripers biggest about 22". Dealing with the wind and waves was an experience but overall I enjoyed it. I went out again this week and made a killing over a dozen fish trolling a tube and worm, none were over 22" but it was a great day! If anyone is going out and wouldn't mind me and possibly my cousin tagging along or want to tag along with us when we go out let me know.

  7. I've reserved a spot in the Helen H inshore Nantucket fluke trip back in March. I think the vessel spec'd for this trip is F/V Angler. The site used to have vessel profiles on it but it looks like they've removed all such references. Does any have any insight to this vessel? It helps to know the vessel in order to get some idea of what sort of arrangements I will make for the trip. Thanks. P.S. I called them but I got a voicemail and I'm itching for any info asap.

  12. Has anyone fished these rods? I was looking at the 9' med-light for a light surf setup (1/2-3/4oz jigs/plastics for fluke and small stripers). I'm wondering how much it weighs and what taper is really like but also overall impressions. Listed as fast but I'm concerned It might be a little too soft with that length and listed lure weights. I'm also hoping it's pretty light (around 5-6 oz) so I can bomb it all day. Thanks
  13. For sale is an Abu Orra Inshore low profile reel. I brought it used a few years back but haven't used it much. It has some slight discoloration from the pouch I had it stored in but doesn't impact performance. $50 shipped.
  14. I have a question about braided line on VR and VSX reels. Is there any reason why you would not recommend deviating from the published line recommendations? For example, will 15# braid cast better than 20# on a VR50 with marginally less strength? On the other end of the spectrum, will the small cup of the VSX150 be a problem for 40# or 50# braid when throwing artificials for snook or tarpon. I normally wouldn't care about experimenting, but braid is expensive and there's a ton of smart anglers who can answer my question and save me a few bucks. I just moved to FL so there is a lot of different fishing going on, not just surfcasting (who knew).
  15. For sale: Daiwa Saltist Westcoast Inshore spinning rod 8'3" medium light two piece. 50/50 split. Rated 3/16 - 1 oz. Condition is like new, used 3-4 times. The rod weighs only 4 oz! It's good for freshwater and light saltwater. It does cast up to 1 oz very well but i find it more sensitive with lures up to 1/2 oz or less. It is fast action feels more towards moderate fast. Price is $120 picked up in Brooklyn, NY. Sorry, no shipping.
  16. Hi Everyone, I need some help. I recently ordered the St. Croix VIS80MHF Avid Inshore Spinning Rod - 8 ft and I need to find a spinning reel to pair with it. I plan to get more serious about striper/blue fishing in cape cod (Eastham/Welfleet area) and this rod will mainly be used in small rivers/estuaries as well as flats. I have been doing some research and I have heard some good options are the Shimano Saragosa 5/6K, Shimano Stradic FL5000, Shimano Spheros 6K, Shimano Sustain, and the Pen Slammer 4500. I was really leaning towards the Stradic FL5000, but my concern is the weight of reel is too light for the rod (roughly 10 oz). This Avid inshore model that I purchased is about 7.5 oz. Do you think I need to pair this rod with a heavier reel in the 12-16 oz range? If so, do you guys have any other recommendations? Also, I would love to hear from anyone who owns this rod on what your setup looks like.
  17. I am shopping for a fluke rod. Currently looking at the Tsunami Slimwave Inshore 7ft 3/8-1 1/4oz. Anybody has used it? What's your opinion on it compare to other rods.
  18. Interested in picking up all-purpose rigs I can wield from the kayak to catch schoolie sized stripers, weakfish, and fluke with. I'd also be using these in land-based backwater situations. I'm a spinning reel guy, but only because that's what I use all the time. I wouldn't rule out a conventional setup. I'm in South Jersey but can help with shipping for non-local deals. I'm thinking of a setup that can throw light (3/8 oz.) bucktails and jigs, but also throw up to, I don't know 1+ oz. Something that would take 15-20 lb. braid nicely, have enough feel to work the light bucktail for fluke while having enough backbone to handle the occasional nice-sized bass. I'd consider the right 8' setup or down to 6'6". I don't need anything crazy nice/expensive and I'm not terribly picky. I have kids that like to fish and we need general purpose gear, so I'm looking for value. A decent, lasting setup at a decent price, or a known cheap but properly functioning setup at a cheap price.
  19. Tsunami Scale Tech 7’6” 1/4-1oz one piece spinning inshore rod. Brand new. Never used. $50 pickup Plymouth, MA.
  20. I have two star rods for sale. 1 -Star Stellar Lite casting rod. Lightly used, have only had it for 6 weeks. Rated 12-20 lbs, 5/8-2 oz. 7 foot length. $70 2- Star stellar lite spinning rod. Split grip cork, rated 5/8- 2oz, 12-20 lbs. 7 foot length. $60 Located in Narberth, PA but can meet occasionally in South Jersey by Cherry Hill or shore points between AC and Ocean City.
  21. I've found a glaring hole in my arsenal (or an excuse to buy more gear..). I'm looking to get something throw smaller/mid sized plugs in the back and around bridges. I need something to fit in-between b 7ft 6 M Avid inshore and 9ft 6 Tsunami airwave elite. Probably around 8ft 1/2-2oz preferably 1 piece. I already own a 8ft mojo surf but its really just used for tossing tins to to bluefish at inlets since it doesn't throw the lighter stuff too well. I am thinking about pulling the trigger on an avid inshore 8ft MH but my only concern is those rods are pretty fast and this rod will be mostly be used with treble hooks. Let me know you guys think. Thanks in advance.
  22. Hi - new member, 1st post, so apologies if this isn't in the correct forum. I'm looking at getting a new set up and have decided on the Shimano Stradic FL. Unfortunately, the 3000 I want is completely sold out in US it seems. I can find a 2500 or 4000 here or there. I fish almost exclusively at a pier/inlet in jersey (no surf fishing yet). Normally targeting summer flounder, sometimes will take blues if they're running. Hope to stumble across a striper or two. I normally use bait, but have just recently begun to teach myself bucktail jigging (any suggestions on this welcome as well!). Anyway, with that as background, I'm pretty sure the 2500 is sufficient for what I'm targeting but wanted some second opinions . The only reason I even hesitate is there is a chance once or twice a year I may end up on a party boat and would maybe rather the 4000 for that. I currently have a Daiwa BG 3000, so diversifying my lineup would be added benefit. As an aside, any rod suggestions to pair the reel with would be welcome, specifically with the bucktails in mind. Anyone ever used a 13 fishing Omen green or Shimano Teramar SE inshore? Because of the tidal currents where I fish, I've been using 1 1/2 oz to 2 oz Spro bucktails, but again I'm just trying to learn that so maybe I'm off base and using way too heavy?
  23. Hello, I believe that this is my first post on this forum, although I have been using the forums as a resource for some time. I'm looking for a boat that I can use primarily for fly fishing on protected inshore locations of the Chesapeake Bay and the Outer Banks. I would also likely use the boat on freshwater impoundments such as Santee Cooper reservoir The boat I'm currently considering is a Carolina Skiff model 192JLS, which is a 19' boat with a Suzuki 90HP or 115HP outboard. I would appreciate any member feedback about this particular boat, or any other boats in this size range that would be good for my intentions. Thanks, Mary
  24. Hi - I need some help with the details before I purchase: looking for help on power, action, and reel size. My specific questions are at the end: I'm looking at a 7' medium power, fast action St. Croix Avid Inshore rod paired with a Shimano Stradic FL in the 5000 size. I am currently using a 9' medium power, moderate fast action Tica TC2 surf rod (1/2 oz to 3oz) which is a little much for smaller lures and definitely not giving any sensitivity when I am using anything under 1oz. I love casting from the surf but there are so many awesome bays around here. Ultimately I want a 7' inshore, a 9' all-around and an 11' rod for jetties/inlets, big surf. I want something that will excel in bay fishing....looking for something that can provide long casts, sensitive enough to feel bottom with bucktail jigs, can handle stripers and blues (maybe fluke and weakfish, and can be a versatile pole I can have some fun with. I had a couple questions: Does this setup make sense for fishing in the bays around Long Island? Does a medium power, fast action pole make sense (think 3/8 to 3/4 oz lures are ok)? Or would you step up to a medium heavy, fast action (1/2 to 1 & 1/4oz). Or something else? Would you go 4000 or 5000 size for the reel? Tempted to go 5000 which gets me a nicer knob and more line (4000 and 5000 are same physical size I believe) Does 7' rod make sense here or should I go 7'6" or 8'? Also if anyone has any suggestion for quality braid that would make sense for this setup. Thanks everyone. I am new around here and basically a hack, vying for the title of 'worst fisherman on Long Island' so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Attached a pic of my latest striper from earlier this week.
  25. Long island pick up. Willing to buy an inshore spinning rod which can throw from 1/2 oz to 2 oz.
