  1. Hello, my father is moving to Florida and I would like to outfit our family for fishing along the River and surrounding areas. we will eventually have a boat , but it won’t be devoted to fishing. The property has a slip along the port street lucie river, bridge in close proximity . can anyone give me some ideas what Isize fish we will encounter and possibly throw me some outfits that will handle these types of fish. also, I would like to be able to have a set up for tarpon and maybe another for snook , and flounder. Totally unfamiliar with redfish. also, a good pompano setup. blacktip . thank you in advance and we will down in the fall. Moving from pa. jeff
  2. I am a college engineering student so I really like making things rather than spending money on them as money is tight at the moment. i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to make teasers that go on the popular bucktail rigs when fishing for flounder. I know people make their own bucktails but is there a way to make the teasers that go on the second hook? Thank you all for any ideas.
  3. Getting jigs made up for this season if anyone is interested. Up to 1.5oz
  4. Want to have a rod built for fluking from shore and occasional casting to bluefish/ striper or albie etc. Want an 8-8.5ft max length but want a 2 piece (60-40 or 70-30 split) so I can fit it in my tdi golf easier. I tried out the Century ss1025 but it felt a little too whipey/ light and not able to throw 2- 2.5oz if needed as the rod specs say... will pair with a VR50 spooled with 17lb braid. Any thoughts on having a ss1025 blank tip cut down to like 8ft or 8'2" to make it a little stiffer to impart better action on the jig? Open to to other blank suggestions. I tried the ODM Frontier x 8ft 6 but it was too heavy (action and the factory rod build weight). The ODM DNA 9ft is a bit closer in action (however too fast maybe) but its 9ft. Thoughts on cutting the butt end down by 6 inches could be an idea perhaps? I want to be able to throw 1/4oz -2.5 with the primary range of 1/2oz -2. Last I heard about the Weapon... are they all 1pc though? I just got a Star VPR (pictured below) and fished Jersey with it last week. Right weighted rod for the vr50 but action was a bit heavier than I would like. Cheers
  5. Looking for some recommendations on a surf rod for bucktailing summer flounder from the open beach. Something in the 8’ range that won’t break the bank too bad. Mostly throw 3/4 to 1 oz bucktails with a teaser. Thanks
  6. So I picked up the new do it molds swimbait head jig to keep my busy over the winter. It comes set up for a new Mustad light wire hook, which was a little thin for my liking. I ordered some 5/0 VMC Barbarian regular wire hook and they fit with just a tiny filing around the hook eye. Can't wait to get these in the water come this March.
  7. I was wondering if anyone knew where some good flounder fishing is in Maine?
  8. I was wondering if anyone knew where to go flounder fishing around york Maine
  9. Here's a little clip from my 4.5lb Flounder over the weekend. I ended up with a 22",19" and 18.5" on Sun. Went out again on Tues. but the water dropped from 72, to 63. I did end up with one 20" on Tues, but that was it. Hopefully water stays a little more consistent.
  10. A couple days ago I was making the walk to one of my favored spots, to find the beach was littered with Horseshoe Crabs. Must've been at least 200-300 that I could see, crawling around all over by the water-line. I decided not to fish there, considering I was jigging for fluke and I can't stand having the crabs constantly chafe my leader. The water was also very dirty, which encouraged my decision also. So, on my drive back I started thinking.. I don't think I've ever fished on a particular day when the Horseshoe Crabs are this concentrated. I feel like it would be quite futile, doubting that Fluke like to be crawled on and harassed by these large crabs. Seems to me like it would just result in a lot of dead-weight hook-ups, and lots of leaders replaced. It's not like I never fish around Horseshoe Crabs, just not THAT many. Anyone have a different opinion on this happening? Maybe I'm missing something going on in the food chain? Or am I in the right to say screw the crabs and that spot, for the time being?
  11. Just wondering if anyone has started their spearfishing season in RI yet. I know Tautog season started a few weeks back but have not gotten out myself to check out the numbers. Mainly just want to start a thread for spearfishing. But also interested in stripers since I have heard a few keepers have been caught already.
  12. Hey SOL, I am sure like many of you I am chomping at the bit to get back on the water and to get some good fishing in. I did drop a few jetty cast last week mainly to test some new gear and to see if a lonely holdover might bite. I wanted to ask if anyone had insight when the flounder would return to some of the harbors like Rye, Hampton, or Odiorne. I am not sure if it is all based on water temp or if they make their way back or get hungry around a certain date. I had some decent luck last year w/ a 2oz. weight and a double hook rig with live sand worms. I've heard people do well with squid strips as well. I have never caught a fluke on a bucktail do we need to use smaller weight bucktails up north? I have put some hours down with a 1/2oz buck with a teaser rig about a foot up the leader. Well any insight would be great. I had an awesome first fishing weekend of 17 down in CT on one of the rivers that drains into the sound near Norwalk. 2 days on the water about 70 stripers between the two of us w/ about 10 keepers. Great times.
  13. I have been fishing for flounder for years now, semi-successfully. This year I would like to target big, doormat sized flounder. I have a boat. Not looking for specific locations, but what type of area should I fish? Any certain bait better than others? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
  14. I haven't been out this year yet in RI, maybe next week. Hows the fishing been where you fish?
  15. I'm In Emerald Isle and everyone says the flounder have not moved into the surf yet.... Only a few have been caught. I've been out there all day everyday covering massive water with bucktail/gulp/gulp teaser for the past month and not even a hit! Apparently the bluefish and spanish are in full force but I've only caught them from boat/pier and nothing from the surf.... Nothing but sharks at night! Did get one speck other than that NOTHING!
