  1. Hi Everyone, I need some help. I recently ordered the St. Croix VIS80MHF Avid Inshore Spinning Rod - 8 ft and I need to find a spinning reel to pair with it. I plan to get more serious about striper/blue fishing in cape cod (Eastham/Welfleet area) and this rod will mainly be used in small rivers/estuaries as well as flats. I have been doing some research and I have heard some good options are the Shimano Saragosa 5/6K, Shimano Stradic FL5000, Shimano Spheros 6K, Shimano Sustain, and the Pen Slammer 4500. I was really leaning towards the Stradic FL5000, but my concern is the weight of reel is too light for the rod (roughly 10 oz). This Avid inshore model that I purchased is about 7.5 oz. Do you think I need to pair this rod with a heavier reel in the 12-16 oz range? If so, do you guys have any other recommendations? Also, I would love to hear from anyone who owns this rod on what your setup looks like.
  2. Interested in picking up all-purpose rigs I can wield from the kayak to catch schoolie sized stripers, weakfish, and fluke with. I'd also be using these in land-based backwater situations. I'm a spinning reel guy, but only because that's what I use all the time. I wouldn't rule out a conventional setup. I'm in South Jersey but can help with shipping for non-local deals. I'm thinking of a setup that can throw light (3/8 oz.) bucktails and jigs, but also throw up to, I don't know 1+ oz. Something that would take 15-20 lb. braid nicely, have enough feel to work the light bucktail for fluke while having enough backbone to handle the occasional nice-sized bass. I'd consider the right 8' setup or down to 6'6". I don't need anything crazy nice/expensive and I'm not terribly picky. I have kids that like to fish and we need general purpose gear, so I'm looking for value. A decent, lasting setup at a decent price, or a known cheap but properly functioning setup at a cheap price.
  3. Hey folks, Have a beautiful custom CE700L that I’m trying to match to one of these reels. It’s possible I may swap them out for each other depending on what I’m fishing for. My fear is that the BV-300 doesn’t look right on it. Am I better off keeping the saltiga on it? Thoughts?
  4. For sale: Brand new never been fished Jigging World Black Widow 150S. Rated 15-30lb. Please note, some are used to the old green color they used, they are now blue. This comes with a Shimano Stradic Fk 4000. Also never been fished. Please note that a jigging World Power knob has been added. Original knob will be included. Fairly priced at $360 picked up Brooklyn/Queens/Nassau Will also trade for a brand new with tags Blackhole Challenger 7’3M conventional (non spiral) and a few bucks my way.
  5. Looking to buy a Sargus 7000 reel and either a 1530S70 or 1220S70 Slammer Rod. Separately or the combo if available.
  6. Hey all, I'm looking for some recommendation's/ advice on a fly combo to learn on. I will be targeting Striped Bass and Blues on the east end of Long Island. I've done a bit a research and came across a couple combos like the TFO Left Kreh and the Orvis Encounter/ Clearwater but I'm unsure if these are suitable for saltwater use in rocky terrain. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  7. Had grandiose intentions of fishing the beach and inlet with this combo. The used Orvis Mach 5 currently spooled with 80 lb power pro and the yard casted 10wt floating redfish line. Also included is unused 10wt clear intermediate tarpon line and a used teeny ts350 line. The rod (St Croix Legend Ultra U9010.4) is unused...well yard cast. Looking for $340 paypal and shipped.
