I have Clash 4000 spooled with 20lb braid. Towards the end of last year, the reel started making a rasping noise when retrieving. I did some research and removed it from rod and tried reeling. Absolutely no noise, so I concluded it was the line roller. I have never dropped or dunked the reel. As I do after almost every trip, I gave it a thorough external cleaning (fresh water mist and Penn Rod & Reel cleaner). I then disassembled the line roller, cleaned and degreased everything. Relubed with Penn grease. Put the reel back on the rod, strung it, and all was quiet. I went out 2 - 3 times this spring and noise returned. I performed same process, but now after another 2-3 trips, same noise. The reel is only 3 years old, but does it sound like I need to replace the line roller bearing and washers? Can you provide a list of likely components I would need to think about replacing to correct this? Thanks.

I purcased Penn Clash 4000 in the spring 2016 and used only once in 2016. I used it a couple times this year, no dunkings. The only time it got wet was during after trip clean up. Went to use it last week and immediately noticed an issue with the drag. I can set the drag loosely, but as line is taken, the drag tightens up to the point of lockdown. I do note the drag knob turns with the spool as drag is pulled, thus automatically tightening against itself. I am at a loss for what is causing this. Suggestions?

I want a surf rod for light bait fishing for speckled trout, small red drum and pompano in SC. I need to cast as far as possible at times and will be using small bait like shrimp. I will be using either a Clash 4000 or Baitrunner D 4000 and 20lb braid. I am guessing I need a 9-10 ft. All the threads I have read on light surf rods deal with lures but I will be using cut bait and light sinkers. I have to buy on line as my local tackle shops do not carry surf length rods so I can't look at and handle the rods first. I want to keep it under $150 if possible. Recommendations please?
