  1. Has anyone had any luck fishing for albies off the tip of sandy hook nj recently? Was planning on trying this week
  2. Hello all, I have recently edited the article about false albacore research to all of the people's liking that commented on my post with the original article, I will keep on editing this article until all are satisfied. Most of the information has been kept on the article, I just added some more information towards the bottom of the article and in the baitfish section of the article. I hope you all enjoy. Here is the link to the new and improved version of the article: False Albacore Research by Anthony Carbone (3).pdf
  3. Hello all, I have recently made a document about false albacore and different things about albies, let me know what you guys think and what I should edit! False Albacore Research by Anthony Carbone.pdf
  4. Hi all, question for those who fish integrated sinking lines: my cobbled together sinking shooting head, which I never liked much, just ate it in a prop. This is for a 10 weight TFO BVK. I’m thinking I want an integrated line. This is for fishing for albies from the west wall (lots of casts, loading on one cast), various jetties and inlets, and very occasionally rips when I get on a boat. Being able to cast repeatedly is more important to me than it sinking while I feed it into a rip. any favorites? I’m on MV now and the shops have: - orvis hydros sinking line for 10 wt - rio in touch in 350 or 400 grain - rio premier in 350 or 400 grain Im only here a couple more days, and mostly have been happy fishing w intermediate. I’m not going in a boat again out to the rips. So it isn’t urgent that I get it here. Do I: - get one of the above, and if so, which one? - order something else that is much better and have it for later? thanks!
  5. Well our Cape Lookout season is about done. There are some reports from the Eastside of the Cape of old drum and albies today. We are just waiting on weather so we can comfortably cross the shoals. The season over all was a disappointment --hot water for much of the season and too many 50 kt gales. There were a couple of days of big fish but not the usual. Several days were still very memorable to this old man. Will's father has been fishing with me for 20 yrs and this year it was Will's first trip to Harkers. In two days of fishing he caught his first albie ever, his first albies on fly and numerous old drum. Wes Seigler and his general manager Russell Seymour came and stayed with us for a couple of days. Russell caught his first albie on fly on the SF and Sage Pay Load 8wt. I think he is still smiling.
  6. hello guys, i will travel 8 to 12 hours from canada ( 25 to 30 oct ) to go surfishing again in the usa. where should i go this trip, cape cod, RI or Montauk??? where do you still have bait/fish activity ? thank you for your advice, and im not looking for spot just general area. tight lines everybody
  7. I’m looking to concentrate on albies this fall. I’ve read some reports about them being caught on party boats but haven’t heard anything hitting the surf yet. Does anyone have reliable reports?
  8. Remember that they are just a stupid fish, and they will eat a hook with padding from a box spring... Not much action from the material, but holds a good profile, only takes a few minutes to tie, and can be colored to match any bait around! Materials consist of sidewall padding from a box spring, lead wire, WTP eyes, and sharpies. Let's see some more flies with unconventional materials.
  9. Dare I ask - How do I buy the proper parking permit for fishing areas out on the East End of Long Island - in mid-October. I'm ok with the local rich people making it difficult to fish anything out there except crowded ole' Montauk - but just don't make it impossible for me please. I know all those other areas out there hold fish often.
  10. Just got a new fly-fishing setup for stripers in creeks as well as chasing albies. It is a sage Flight 2 pc 8wt with a ros rapid 7/8 reel. I will primarily be throwing clousers and sandeel imitators. What kind of line and backing would be a fit for this.
  11. I'm looking for a rod to fire epoxy jigs at albies as they race up and down the RI beaches. Needs to balance with a Penn SSV 4500 and throw 1/2 - 1.5 oz. on 15 lb. J-Braid, and CASTING DISTANCE IS CRUCIAL. Would like to go 7'6" at the minimum. Thanks for any suggestions you can offer. Woody
  12. 9 discontinued Yo-Zuri Livebait minnow jigs. Small ones are 2 3/4" 5/8oz, large ones are 3 3/8" 1oz. $50 shipped, Paypal preferred. Will split into lots of three tomorrow if they don't sell today. Albies are on their way!
  13. Thoughts, reviews or comments on the Shimano Saragosa? I just bought a 25000 for bluefin. I have already seen Alan Hawks review of them. Thanks!
