Looking to buy a used van staal vsx 200 or 250 or a used vs if I can get a good price. Thank you!

Hi Friends, I'm looking to sell my VSX 150. It comes with the power handle and is spooled with 30# spiderwire camo braid. This reel is clean, well maintained, but it comes in used condition and has some scratches and dings (see pictures). Still performs well though. Comes with everything in the pictures. I'm asking for $600 or best offer (shipped or available for pickup in West Palm Beach, FL). I am selling so that I can purchase a fly rod for local fish, and no longer need my striped bass slayer. Serious offers only. Thanks!

Hey everyone, so earlier this season I was able to get a really nice deal on a new van staal 200sx. I used it for a bit and love it’s feel and look but…. Part of me thinks I made a mistake with the size of the thing. I’ve been doin some surf fishing but I’ve also been doing some boat fishing and kayak etc. All of which includes me usually ending up in the water with my equipment… yes I fell off a boat but the line snapped and it was a nice fish sooooooo. Anyway usually it’s not even on a true surf rod but more like a do it all 7-8 footer. So part of me thinks I should try to trade it for a smaller version so it fits better with the rod and application. I’d prefer to have a do anything anywhere saltwater reel not just one that excels in one area but struggles and or is cumbersome in another. I’m in college right now so I don’t really have the money to buy multiple quality reels but I am willing (stupid) enough to pay for one . Maybe it’s just buyers remorse or something else but it’s gotten me thinking. I’d love to hear what y’all think, should I downsize? should I stick with my reel? should I stop jumping in after fish that break my line? Let me know! -Ben

I realize it's kind of an outdated reel. I've never owned one, and from what I've read on here, most guys tend to shy away from it because of its weight and slow retrieve. While that might be a pain in the arse for some, I do like the idea of more torque around rocks when fighting a big fish. I've used the 250 and 275 with no issues, but for next season (if I can find one) I might try and pick up an original 300. For those of you who still fish them, do you prefer it over other vs models? Again it's the original one not the new vx2. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks fellas!

Mostly going to be throwing bigger plugs and huge riggies with it. If anybody uses this particular stick with a VS do you prefer a 250 or 275/300? Thanks!

Right now I have my 9’ ODM DNA paired with a Penn Slammer 3 5500 with 30lb braid. I use this set up for bass in the 35”+ range. I usually toss lures from 1-3oz. Which VSX will: 1. Balance my rod nicely 2. Offer enough size so I can feel confident casting 3oz darters and such. I know the slammer 5500 is slightly oversized for the 9’ but I have confidence when I hook up to nice fish that I can control the fish and the fish is not controlling me. I would like the same for my future VSX. Also at times I will be swapping the reel to a 10’6” star paraflex 2-6oz and will never be casting more than 3oz. Thank you in advance!

Found a VS 300 for a good deal so might jump on it. Does anyone still fish one and if so what do you use it for? I really like the idea of being able to crank in big fish with it, I'm just kind of worried about the line lay issues on the older VS. Any input would be appreciated thanks!

Hi all, I have a VS150 I purchased back in 2006. 2 years ago I noticed friction while reeling - the handle is sluggish and tough to turn. It is not seized; however, trying to work my lightest plugs is a serious forearm workout. I've sent in in to an authorized VS center for service in 2019 & 2020 and the reel came back w/ the same sluggish retrieve. I don't want to send it to a warranty center again, as it cost me money and the issue was not addressed. Has anyone had this happen to them? How have you self-serviced your VS that had a sluggish retrieve / friction?

Anyone have a VS power knob they would like to part with ? My reel is silver but matching color is not a deal breaker as long as the price is right.

For sale I have a USA made Van staal 250 that does need a decent amount of work/servicing done on it. Hasn't been fished since 2017 and the handle is locked in place, but the drag seems to be ok. The serial # is 2564. Asking $275 shipped. Don't have PayPal so USPS or Walmart money order would be fine. Thanks fellas
