Scored this old tackle box full of fresh water tackle, no original boxes, not in the best of shape anything of any value? If you need better pics just ask. Been out of work due to chemotherapy trying to score a few bucks it might end up on the bst.
I purchased a Penn 1000 at a consignment shop. After researching this real a found out that it was the first low profile real made by Penn. It was made in early 1980's. Only about 3 years of production before discontinued. It was made in China and said to be the reason behind the low selks leading to stopping the production of the real. I was amazed by how well this real cast. I use Lew reels and this reel cast as good as my Lew lite. Does anyone know if this is a collector item or is it just a good reel to take to the lake and enjoy?
Let me first start off by stating that I'm new here, I have done a fair bit of creeping around the forum, but finally decided to actually register and start asking some questions. I'm not new to fishing, I've grown up both freshwater and saltwater fishing. I have done a little freshwater fly fishing, mostly for pan-fish, but am new to the saltwater game. I'm looking for a "budget" or "value" reel. I'm not talking dirt cheap, although if you have some dirt cheap recommendations I will happily consider them. Let's say something under 200 dollars, closer to 150 would be a lot more favorable. It will be used mainly for striped bass fishing, but probably blues and maybe the occasional false albacore as well. Also, I'm going to mate it with a 9' 9wt llbean streamlight ultra rod. I'm not looking for a family heirloom reel here. I know that a reel in this price range is likely to have an expiration date on it, and I am totally fine with that. I'm just looking for something to help get my feet wet and see how I feel about fly fishing in the salt before I spend a ton of money on gear. I would be happy if I got two seasons out of this reel. I am well aware that I could be beating a dead horse asking this question. I have seen it posted all over the place. The reason I'm asking it anyway is because all of the answers I have seen to the question "best budget fly reel" are all discontinued. For example: Teton Tioga, Lamson Konic, Orvis Access LA. Does anyone have any experience with Lamson Liquids, Redington behemoths, or the Mid Arbor Access? Thanks
