Looking for recs for a decent boat/kayak rod, not too heavy, in the 6-7 foot range, MH to H power, fast action (though moderate might not be bad either), to pair with an old Penn Special Senator 112H. I found an old US made one in really good condition at a local fishing expo and couldn't pass it up, super smooth given the age, clicker works fine. Any rod recs below $150 would be appreciated, and any other recs for spooling it too. I'm thinking about 50-75 yards of 30-40lb mono backing with 30-40lb braid on top? Thanks everyone.

I’ve decided to go with a single 24 volt lithium battery setup for my riptide terrova. questions: anyone have any experience with any of these batteries for this application, anyone using them for a while like a year or over anyone purchase somewhere reasonably local to NJ? what AMP/hr are folks using? Im looking to stay light like under 40 pounds id like to have a local place instead of buying online thanks

I have two Shimano Triton 50W on Shakespeare Ugly Stik Trolling Rods. Reels are in great shape other than some cosmetic corrosion. Both function as should and are loaded with couple hundred yards of 100lb hollow core and a 100+ yards of 100lb momoi mono top shot. Reels are single speed. Rods are a little rough but function and have all roller guides. 5'6 rated 50-130lbs. Local pick up/meet up only. Asking $650 obo.

Hello All! I'll be in Ocracoke this summer and I am renting either a 19' or 24' Carolina skiff to fish just inside Ocracoke inlet for a morning. I am planning on doing a little light trolling and I am starting to assemble my gear. The one thing that I am missing is a down planer and I am baffled by the sizing of down-planes. I'll be fishing with a boat rod and an old Penn LongBeach, therefore I assume that a #1 plane should do just fine, but I would like to get outside opinions as I am having a hard time finding info online relating to choosing the correct size down planer. I'm looking for recommendations on a solid light tackle trolling reel for my kayak (Old Town Sportsman Bigwater 132 PDL). I mainly troll in freshwater reservoirs in Maryland and Virginia right now but also plan to do more in brackish (Chesapeake and Potomac). I want something light tackle preferably under 18 oz, ideally under 15 oz if possible. I've looked at everything for hours including both conventional and baitcaster reels. I don't want to use spinning, mainly because I already have spinning I use to troll when I go super light (Shimano Nasci/Spheros 3000 for 2oz or less works like a dream). I want a reel to troll bucktails, Alabama rigs, umbrellas, tandem rigs, spoons etc, mainly for stripers but also for musky and walleye in the future. Targeting fish in the 5-30lb range mainly. I don't have an exact price range, I more want a medium to high end reel that will last and be light and smooth (let's assume between $125-$300). I feel like having a clicker is almost mandatory. Multi-purpose isn't necessary but is nice to have (i.e. being able to cast as well as troll isn't mandatory). I'm torn between levelwind or not, and conventional vs low-profile/circlular or high-capacity baitcasters. I have looked at the following and none have stood out as a clear winner. I would love to hear your all's thoughts on any of these reels or any I haven't listed. - Seigler SG/SGN - Accurate Fury 400 and Valiant (the latter not being worth money imo) - Avet SX and SXJ - Daiwa Lexa CC - Shimano Tranx (no clicker sucks) - Okuma Komodo SS - Shimano Calcutta - Daiwa Saltist 20H Also, if anyone has any rod recs to pair for the kayak I am all ears

Hi I'm I'm looking for some advice on trolling. I'm new to trolling, went out on my buddy's boat on Tuesday on the bay and got skunked. He is mostly new to trolling as well. We set out 3 rods, 2 with umbrella rigs and one with a parachute rig. No bites. We were getting plenty of hits on his fish finder at varying depths, mostly between 20-30ft. I'm wondering if we are getting the rigs down deep enough. Here is the set up we were using: 3 levelwind reels spooled w/ 65lb braid on 6'6" boat rods, 1 larger (probably 14‐16in across) umbrella with a 12in shad trailer (probably 6oz?) and a 4oz inline sinker placed about 18" in front. 1 smaller (12in?) umbrella with a 6in shad trailer (4oz) and no added weight. 1 parachute rig, 6oz and 4oz i believe w/ no added weight. We varied our trolling speed between 3-4 mph. Not sure how much line we were letting out but my guess would be around 100yds for each rod. How much do we need to let out, or how much weight to add, to get down around 20-25ft? I will say that the weather was weird the day we went out, super foggy and no wind until around noon, maybe that had something to do with the lack of bites. But im more inclined to believe we we're doing something wrong. We left out of Edgewater and fished the main channel areas outside Kent Island. Read some things about the water being funky right now from algae, it did look a little reddish in some areas. Anyways, any and all help appreciated! We are newbies just looking to get some fish for the grill! We're headed back out on Monday.

So I have two ocean big game kayaks and I enjoy fishing them. But I want to put a trolling motor on them. I have seen the trolling motor kits that mount in the Rod holders etc but I don’t like the way it looks. I saw somebody with a custom trolling motor that was mounted by a professional and it look very neat and he steered it with foot petals instead of the handle. My question does anybody know of anyone who does this type of installation in New Jersey? I greatly appreciate your help thank you.

For sale. Never fished. Older version of the Tekota with the beautiful low gear 4.7 ratio. Reel has been serviced because it was dead stock sitting around for a while. Hey everyone, Last year was the first year in a boat trolling tube n worm for stripers. Did very well in rivers where depths maxed out at 35' (all the way down to 4') using unweighted tubes with 40-50# braided fishing line. I am wondering if it would be beneficial to add an egg sinker (and what weight to add) for deeper water? Or would it be worth it to get a dedicated lead core setup? Ive seen many posts online that say the tube *needs* to be close to the bottom or close to where the stripers are, but clearly that isn't true from my experience. I'm just wondering if its worth the money to go lead core to get the tube down further, especially if it would help me catch bigger or more fish. Obviously adding a lead weight won't cost much and I'll definitely be trying it out this season. Also, I did not have any luck fishing the ocean (Long Island Sound, CT side) with the tube and worm. Would getting my tube down deeper help in this situation? Fished a few times near reefs and shoreline/structure with no luck. Thanks! Sharing your experiences or adding your input would be very beneficial.

Reels spooled with 10lb flourocarbon. $115 per combo. 2) Diawa Sealine 27 reels on Okuma 8" 6" 2 piece ML trolling rods. Reels spooled with 8 colors of Suffix Performance 12lb leadcore. $100 per combo. Setups only used 5-6 times in freshwater trolling on Lake Winnipisaukee. Great set ups for trolling for land locked salmon and lake trout. Selling because we sold boat. Prefer to meet in person somewhere in Northeast MA or Southern NH but will ship on buyers dime.

Hey pals, hope everyone is having great times fishing out there. I recently switched up my tactics due to a sharp decline in fish I could produce by the holy and sacred tube and worm method. I picked up a 4 ounce umbrella rig with 4 6 inch swim shads and a single trailing 9 inch swimbait (all in magical chartreuse). When I took to the river and dropped the rig beside the boat to begin trolling a deep and narrow section of a river I realized I had overestimated the strength of myself and the 10 foot surf rod and spinning reel. I felt like I was already fighting the biggest fish of my life as the rig pulled the rod towards the water. Shortly after the rig dropped deeper into the river I felt a sharp tug followed by drag being peeled off the spool. It felt like a fish, but was taking line like I had snagged the bottom. After drifting down current on top of whatever I had hooked, I was able to pull up a lovely 23 inch striped bass. Hooked on the 9 inch swimbait! It was a great feeling to make a conscious self guided change of tactics and be rewarded with a fish for it. I trolled the tube and worm after that and was given one 16 inch fish which I am very thankful for. Next time I go out I plan to invest in a more suitable set up for trolling ridiculously large rigs. Any suggestions for a rod/reel or tips and stories from your own umbrella rig experiences would be welcomed. I’m interested to hear how many others in Maine use this method since I haven’t seen or heard any others discussing. Thanks and happy fishing! Dont forget to release those healthy cows :-)

Anglers must use non-offset circle hooks when live-lining or chumming. Anglers must use non-offset circle hooks or "J" hooks when using fish, crabs or worms as bait or when using processed baits while not live-lining or chumming (treble hooks are prohibited). Is trolling a live eel with a weighted rig considered "live-lining"? If so how? We have always used 2 J hooks rigged on a live eel (1 at the head and 1mid body) when trolling snd never gutted a fish let alone hooked any under 19 inches... Opinions?

My Friend has a 27 foot Grady white and wants to catch mahi, wahoo, small tuna and the like. I told him to look for lobster pots. Can anyone tell me what depths and temps to look for as I've only done it in the canyon and nearshore I've got mahi randomly. Thx
