  3. Only been fly fishing a couple years now and looking for some Info as far as reputation, value etc on this older combo. Was given to me as a gift and all though older it’s in great shape as it was only used for one trip when originally purchased. The rod is a 2 piece 10/11 weight. Thanks in advance for any info / help!
  4. Good condition St Croix Avid Surf 10' Rod AVSS100MF2 Haven't used much but show normal signs of use (see pic) This is the older 'red' version. Manufactured in April 2019. $210 shipped within the East coast, add $10 elsewhere.
  5. Anyone used the new St Croix Mojo inshore casting rods, specifically the new 7’9” XH? Wondering how the action is casting heavier lures and swimbaits. Let me know if you’ve handled one.
  6. Selling my 12' Mojo surf spinning rod. 6-16oz lure rating. 20-60lb line weight. 70-30 split. Easily throws 8oz and a bunker head. Some light scratches but 9/10 condition overall. All guides and reel seat perfectly intact. Pickup/meetup only, north NJ/NYC area. Will drive to meet up within reason. $250 OBO.
  7. 1. St Croix Tidemaster 8' medium fast spinning (TS80MF) 1/4 - 3/4oz - $80 Some wear to cork, some surface rust on guide feet/discoloration of epoxy (hasn't affected rods integrity), good shape overall. The rest of the guides aren't as bad as the one pictured. Great rod for throwing small soft plastics to bass and albies. 2. St Croix Premier 6'6" heavy fast casting (PC66HF) 1/2 - 1.5oz - $60 Some discoloration of cork, some wear on guides, otherwise great shape. Great rod for jigging for fluke/porgies with up to around 2oz jigs. 3. St Croix Premier 6'6" medium fast (PC66MF) 1/4 - 3/4oz - $60 Some discoloration of cork, but generally in excellent shape. Great rod for light jigging or freshwater use. Located in southeast CT, occasionally travel through RI to the north shore of MA.
  8. I just picked up a VS250—thanks to HusonFirst! Now I need a rod for it. This is my bigger water and Montauk combo but it be nice to still be able to throw 1oz BTs and smaller swimmers if needed. Looking for a Lami GSB 132m or 120m with newer style guides. Open to 132L too. Also open to other rods: Legends, Avids, CTS, etc. Would like to pick it up this week. Heading to Montauk on Thursday night. Can pick up in PA, NJ, and Long Island.
  9. Been eyeing this rod for next season and need to feel it before I buy it. But I'm unsure which stores stock it within Long Island. Looking for both of the 10'6 Medium and 10'6 Medium-Heavy versions of the rod
  10. I have a St. Croix 9’ 4pc travel rod for $175.00 shipped to lower 48. Rod has only been used for 1 trip.
  11. I just got a VSX150 on the forum. As luck would have it, I broke my 10' Airwave the first time I used it. Thankfully I bought insurance on it at Dicks when I purchased it. Now I have a nice little gift card to put towards a new rod. I MOSTLY fish NJ beaches but will make it to LI 1-3 times per year and up to MA 1-2 times per year. The vast majority of my time will be spent throwing bucktails, artificials and plugging (and in the summer put it on a 7'6" MHF St Croix Mojo Inshore for fluke and smaller species). Now I don't need an all arounder that can try to do Montauk and the Canal, but something I can use on NJ beaches + jetties, but can also be used if I visit family "Out East" would be ideal. As I just learned through experience, a good warranty matters, but I can also get 2-3 rods before I pay for 1 St. Croix legend. I'm looking at a 9' Grumpy's Sandstorm (3/4-3oz)... I held it at the show last year and was impressed. I also like the 2021 9' St. Croix Triumph (1/2-2.5oz) and the 2020 St. Croix Avid Surf 9' (1-4oz). QUESTION: Grumpys describes the Sandstorm as designed for NJ. What does the perfect NJ Surf Rod that mean to you and how do you fish in NJ? What rod/reel combination do you use in NJ (when not deep in the 24 hour soak #GarbageMan). What rod pairs best with this reel and allows me to do the most. For years I've almost exclusively fished IBSP (fishing with the family) but this year and in the future, I want to see more of what NJ has to offer when fishing saltwater from shore, jetty or maybe even pier. Let's see where this goes (let's pretend there's no budget, then work our way back to reality when we get some consensus). Thank you, tight lines, and happy Sunday!
  12. Time to move some gear that didn't see action this year. Reel prices include shipping on the east coast (west coast add $7.) PayPal or cash only. I'm not shipping the rods, please don't ask as it's just not happening. I'm located in SE CT close to 95 so can meet up within reason. Will also take more pics if needed - just ask. 1. BG 4500 - $85 - 9.5 mechanically and cosmetically. Would be a 10 but I save that for new only. Comes with 30# braid, I believe J8 but not positive. Used last spring in a freshwater river and then shelved. No box. 2. BG 2500 - $55 - reel looks great and free spins beautifully but is tight underload. Might just need a line roller but not really sure. Should be easy for someone to diagnose. Never dunked or taken a wave so that's why I'm guessing line roller. No box but comes loaded with 20# PP 3. Penn Slammer 3 4500 - $185 - 9.5 mechanical and cosmetic. Bought for fall run '19 and serviced in the spring by Penn. This was my back up all summer and was only used 2 or 3 times. Not dunked. Great reel. Can't find the box but can ship in a clash box if required. Loaded with 30# braid but can't remember what brand 4. Penn Spinfisher V 5500 - $100 - brand new with box. Never mounted on a reel. 5. St Croix inshore Tidemaster 7' M 1/4-5/8oz - $100 - been in the basement for a few years. No nicks and the cork is fully intact and in great shape. Just a little oxidation on the hook hanger 6. St Croix inshore Tidemaster 7' MH 1/2-1oz - $110 - same as above - been in the basement for a few years. No nicks and the cork is fully intact and in great shape. Just a little oxidation on the hook hanger 7. Shimano Trevala 6'3" M rated up to 4.75oz - $75 - Only used once or twice on friends boat. Great shape, no nicks and foam is in perfect shape. 8. Shimano Trevala 7' M rated 1/2-3oz - $75 - same story as the other Trevala.
  13. Never used. Beautiful condition. Spinning. Fast action. 7ft. 1 piece. 1/4 - 5/8 oz lure. Perfect for largemouth. Will add a never used Daiwa D-Force 2500 reel. $40 pickup SE MA.
  14. Looking for a 7' premier casting rod in the heavy model. Located Hull MA. Thanks
  15. I bought this rod new roughly about a year ago. I’ve used it a dozen or so times for some light plugging and eeling. Been doing the boat thing this season. Would like to get at least $280. I’m located in Beverly, Ma
  16. 70/ 30 split model # MSC110MHMF2. 15-30 LB. 3-8 oz. I used it a couple times but preferred spinning reel over conventional. This rod is nearly weightless( real talk) no BS. Im asking $150 picked up on long island. I can send more pics if needed. Thanks for your consideration guys.
  17. Looking to buy a 9ft or 9ft6 st croix avid salmon rod. 1/4-3/4 . Locate Wichita ks
  18. Hello, I’m looking for a couple of quality inshore rods in lightly used condition. First is a 7 ft Medium power spinning rod. 2nd is a 7 ft medium heavy power casting rod. Would be used for back bay fishing from kayak. I’m located just outside Philly in PA. Willing to travel to South Jersey and to shore points south of AC. Or if you could ship that would work. Let me know if you got something that fits the bill. Thanks.
  19. Hi - I need some help with the details before I purchase: looking for help on power, action, and reel size. My specific questions are at the end: I'm looking at a 7' medium power, fast action St. Croix Avid Inshore rod paired with a Shimano Stradic FL in the 5000 size. I am currently using a 9' medium power, moderate fast action Tica TC2 surf rod (1/2 oz to 3oz) which is a little much for smaller lures and definitely not giving any sensitivity when I am using anything under 1oz. I love casting from the surf but there are so many awesome bays around here. Ultimately I want a 7' inshore, a 9' all-around and an 11' rod for jetties/inlets, big surf. I want something that will excel in bay fishing....looking for something that can provide long casts, sensitive enough to feel bottom with bucktail jigs, can handle stripers and blues (maybe fluke and weakfish, and can be a versatile pole I can have some fun with. I had a couple questions: Does this setup make sense for fishing in the bays around Long Island? Does a medium power, fast action pole make sense (think 3/8 to 3/4 oz lures are ok)? Or would you step up to a medium heavy, fast action (1/2 to 1 & 1/4oz). Or something else? Would you go 4000 or 5000 size for the reel? Tempted to go 5000 which gets me a nicer knob and more line (4000 and 5000 are same physical size I believe) Does 7' rod make sense here or should I go 7'6" or 8'? Also if anyone has any suggestion for quality braid that would make sense for this setup. Thanks everyone. I am new around here and basically a hack, vying for the title of 'worst fisherman on Long Island' so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Attached a pic of my latest striper from earlier this week.
  20. WTS st croix avid surf 8’ used only a couple of times i have built a few rods removing this from lineup. $150 pickup near canal or on cape
  21. WTB surf rod, would need to have it shipped (32817). Looking for anything 9' or bigger. Fishing the Florida coast, looking to comfortably cast 3oz sinkers with bait on them. Or something around there, something like a st croix triumph, mojo surf etc. Does not have to be a st croix. Would prefer something around 150$ but budget is flexible. Thanks again.
  22. I think it's finally time to downsize, at least for the time being, and sell some of my seldom used gear. I have a lot of nice stuff that's sitting and collecting dust. I justify holding on to most of it by telling myself I'll find a use for them "next season", and a few seasons later most of it has not left the rod rack. **Prices are for local meet-up (South Jersey near/around 08234), not currently looking to ship at this time.** **Pictures to follow, I'll try to get them up within the next couple of days** NRX Inshore 883S MR (MSRP $665) 7'4" MH Fast, 3/16-3/4 oz lure, 15-40 lb line - $370 - Used, great condition. Original guides, cork shows some wear. I used this rod mostly fluking from shore on the sod banks. Recently picked up 9'6" Dialuna for that application. And the 7'4" rod length is just a tad bit longer than I prefer for the yak. G. Loomis GLX 844C MBR (MSRP $455) 7'0" H Fast, 1/4-1 oz lure, 12-20 lb line - $300 - Brand New, sticker still on cork handle. Versatile freshwater rod, do-all rod for everything in it rated lure range. Would make a great back bay, light tackle fluke jigging rod as well. St Croix Legend Tournament Inshore LTIS70MLF (MSRP $300) 7'0" ML Fast, 1/8-1/2 oz lure, 6-12 lb ine - $200 - Brand New, tags removed. Came on one kayak ride, but never left the crate. This would excel throwing lighter lures in shallower water and can double as a freshwater rod. It overlaps with a couple other rods that I use more frequently so unfortunately it never leaves the house. Dobyns Champion XP DC 685CB (MSRP $230) 6'8" MH ModFast, 1/4-1 oz, 8-17 lb line - $100 - Bought lightly used from a buddy of mine. I was intending to use this for crank baits, top waters, and other moving baits that would benefit from a more moderate taper. I realized I don't utilize those techniques enough to warrant a specific rod for that those applications. Got a good deal on it from him so I'm passing along the savings. Phenix Feather FTX 73XH (MSRP $170) 7'3 XH Extra Fast, 1/2-3 oz, 15-35 lb line - $90 - Like new condition. I bought this a couple seasons ago to fish jigs while pond hopping local freshwater spots. I haven't gone freshwater fishing in a long time. Held on to it thinking maybe I can use it to jig tog, but I've learned that I prefer spinning rods for that application. Researching this rod, the consensus is that it's overrated per Phenix's ratings. 3 oz is very generous for a casting lure weight, and it is more of a "fast" action rod than the listed 'x-fast'. Tsunami Airwave Elite TSAWESS-962M (MSRP $195) 9'6" M, 3/4-3 oz, 15-30 lb line - SOLD to SOL member with WTB thread - This rod is used and is missing about 1" from the tip. I DIYed the tip so it doesn't look the prettiest but it is fully functional.
  23. I'm thinking 9ft to 12 ft should suffice.
  24. Great condition 9.8/10 Asking $160 would consider trade+$ for Van Staal reel Pics tell the whole story. (Right one in the last two pics)
  25. WTS 8’ Avid surf rod. I have a 9’ GSB that i prefer over it. Used it twice. It is a nice surf rod. On cape, don’t plan on shipping. Reel is separate, Rod $200
