  1. Hey y’all, attached below I’ve added a couple videos of myself (5’8) throwing a 12’ foot moderate action rod with a 3oz sinker on a spinning rod. I was getting about 95-110 yards or so and was wondering how I could get it farther? I fish at a dam and it seems like I am usually on the lower end of the people in terms of casting distance. I would appreciate some advice on how to throw further, straighter, and more consistently. Thanks IMG_4910.mov IMG_4925.mov IMG_4930.mov IMG_4928.mov
  2. Hey yall Im planning to get one of these cheap spinning surf rods for casting 3 oz weights. I have multiple other surf rods and need one on a budget. I've narrowed it down to these two as I needed something lightweight, able to cast 3 oz sinkers, and decent quality. I think I'm leaning towards the emcast as it is a rod I've felt before and enjoyed. Furthermore it has more guides which will allow it to cast further. If any of yall have tried these rods please let me know any information you have. Thanks Okuma Rockaway 11' -10.6 oz -6+1 guides -Originally $130 but on sale for $77 Daiwa Emcast 11' -unknown but still extremely light -8 guides -$90
  3. Hey y’all I just got a used ci4 ultegra 5500. It is the Shimano Ultegra 5500 ci4 xsb model which came out 9 years ago. I was wondering if any owners of either the new or old model could tell me if I had the long spool. The guy that sold it to me told me there was an extra spool. I am aware that it comes with one regular sized spool and a “long spool”. However the two spools I got are the same size. I added pictures below and both the spools seemed to measure 2.5 inches. Furthermore the plastic slow-oscillating unit below the spool, seems to not align straight hence the rattles and the uneven feeling when I turn. I understand that since it is an older model that it won’t be perfect but I would like to know if I got what I paid for. If not, I may have to buy a spare long spool for the reel. Thanks IMG_4967.mov
  4. Used once after snapping my rod during a blitz and needing a replacement ASAP. TFO Tactical Surf. 11’ 70/30 split. $275 no shipping. Located in NJ
  5. I guess it's time to unload some of my unused rods. I live in Florida, so I will be listing only the travel rods here. I'm going to try to sell longer rods locally. I estimate shipping to be around $30-$40 dollars (UPS says $42 ground shipping for a random house I picked in San Diego) for a travel rod. Depending on your zip code, I may have some wiggle room on the price. Rod #1: Okuma Citrix Graphite Travel Rod 7'2" Spinning (CIT-S-724M) Rod #2: Okuma Citrix Graphite Travel Rod 7'2" Casting (CIT-C-724M) I probably fished the spinning rod once. Casting wasn't used at all. I didn't take too many pics, because they were practically in new condition - Spinning rod still has the wrap, LOL. I'm selling as a pair to make it worth the shipping cost. Price: $150 I'm looking to trade with light 4k/5k spinning reel to keep as loaners. I have some trips coming up with buddies and they are flying from different places. I'll probably need to keep a couple spares, LOL.
  6. Okuma Cedros CSX 1002 spinning rod, 10 ft. It is medium heavy, moderate fast action spinning rod in like new condition (used several times for video production). Ideal for any game fish such as striped bass, bluefish, drum, cobia, snook, tuna etc. I would like to trade for lighter high quality surf rod in 9ft size with 50/50 split. If your trading value is higher, can cover the difference with new tackle/lures/gears. selling for 150 including free shipping. Pick up in nyc. Attached photos picture this great rod. The reel is not for sale but I can consider trading it as a combo for another lighter surf fishing combo (9ft length, 50/50 split etc.). below description from one of the tackle shops. 8. I got some good insight on this forum before so now I have another question. I bought a Daiwa BG 2500 based in insight I got from here, now I'm deciding on which rod to get for it. I went to Sportsman Warehouse where I live and looked at a lot of rods, especially the St Croix Premier, Doybins Sierra, Halo HFX, and another rod I can't recall. The sales guy put those rods out for me to see because he felt they were the best in the $150 region I was looking at, he then did something I've never seen done before, he had me hold the rods like I would fishing, and then arched the tip just a bit and placed them on his voice box on his throat and talked, supposedly I was supposed to feel his voice vibrating through the rod but the only one I could feel that happening was with the Halo, which sort of surprised the sales guy but he said my hands may not be as sensitive as other people's hands, but because I could feel the vibration I was pretty much sold on the Halo. The Halo has that 4 finger thing where the blank of the rod is exposed by where you handle it when fishing, and that could be the reason I felt the vibration since it didn't have to travel through the blank and into the foam or cork handle in order for me to feel it, so that could be the selling point for me if my hands are not as sensitive as others. Due to that test, and a lot of internet reading I kind of really like the Halo, however, on another forum they were saying that the Daiwa Tatula might be a better rod over the Halo, but I have no way to test it for that strange vibration test that I did. I do mostly freshwater inland lakes fishing up in northern Indiana, I may go to other places but that is where I live thus that is where I fish the most. I know people have their favorite rods, and reels too, I get that. So, do you guys have any insight on those two rods?

  10. First build, kind of figuring it out as I go. 11 1/2 foot rod with spinning reel. Plan to use as surfcasting/any long distance cadting saltwater situations. SO I've made several rookie mistakes that cant be undone but I want to ask about one that could possibly be undone. I have every guide in place, wrapped and epoxied EXCEPT the very last guide before the tip top. I already epoxied the tip top with the 2 part Pro Paste. The problem is before it fully set, the tip top moved (rotated about 20 degrees or so when I was load testing to figure out guide placement). I didnt notice until after it fully set in its new position. Photos attached. Should I a) leave it and move forward as is. b) can I heat up the tip top and re-orient it or is it to late? c) cut off the tip and attach a new one. d) rotate that last guide a little in the same direction as the tip top. e) something else? Thanks guys
  11. I’m looking to buy a new spinning reel for a 1-5oz 10’ surf rod this coming year and was wondering what reels you’d recommend. My budget for this reel would be maxed at $400. Any thoughts?
  12. It seems to me that a long mono leader tied to braid with a thin knot on a spinning reel would make a lot of sense. It would remove a swivel that might be pulled through the guides by accident, and keep sharp braid away from the casting finger. However I don't see this on spinning reels, just conventional reels. I'm guessing it doesn't work so well on spinners? Does an FG knot hang up or produce excessive drag on a cast through the guides? Haven't had a chance to test it myself but I have to assume many have. Have you tried this? What is the result? Thanks for any info.
  13. I am looking at picking up either a Certate LT in the 3000D-C / 4000D-C / 5000D-C size and I am looking to get a pretty accurate size comparison. I have somewhat factored out the 5000D-C as I think its a little larger than what I want. From the internet I have heard that the 5000D-C falls just about in line with a Penn Slammer 3 4500 in terms of sizing. Given that example, I was hoping someone could provide me with some size comparisons, potentially with pictures. I really like the 3500 size of the penn slammer 3 and the vr50. I am interested in size comparisons of the 3000-5000 certate sizes, i am hoping the 4000D-C fits the bill around the slammer 3 3500 or vr50 sizing. So if you have one or any experience with one I would love for you to chime in and help me out. Looking primarily to potentially get a 3000 or 4000. Below attached is a picture of a normal sized card, penn clash 2500, penn slammer 3 3500, penn slammer 3 4500, and a galaxy note 10+.

  16. Which guides do I choose for a spinning surf rod when it comes to maximizing my casting distance?
  17. Hi guys. I want to get a Saltiga 8000 H and put a 14000 spool on it, as the H has more cranking power than the Xh, but can still retrieve over a 1m of line per crank. But I have heard that due to the larger main gear in the new Saltigas, even the XH still provides a lot of torque and therefore, is the better option for popping/stickbaiting. What are your thoughts?

  23. Does anyone know where I can pick up a Tsunami Shield 6000 side plate removal tool? I actually have a CatKing Ace 60. It seems to be the same body and side plate assembly as the Shield. The only difference I've been able to discern from my Tsunami Shield 5000 are the: Winner is underlined 1) Handle attachment- CatKing = Hex style/ Tsunami= Screw In 2) Handle- Cat King = Folding, push button handle to fold while installed / Tsunami= Folding, no button 3) Drag washers- Cat King= looks like paper / Tsunami= Greased CF 4) Price- Cat King=$52 ( add $12 for upgraded drag washers) / Tsunami=$119 5) Tool- CatKing= No/ Tsunami= Yes I want to get inside the CatKing and verify if the gearing is the same- I'm assuming it has the same cast gear with some mods for the hex handle
  24. Brand New Penn Torque II 7500 Bailless Silver color. I am asking $550 picked up near Annapolis Maryland. I can ship the reel as well. I was planning to use this reel for shark fishing but I want to go a different direction. I am willing to trade for similar quality conventional reel in 30/50 class
  25. searched, but came up with few answers... though I read LOTS of posts about fancy fancy spinning outfits. I'm a 100% fly guy, fishing out of a boat in western Long Island Sound. I have some non-fly friends and my daughter, who want to join me for the 2021 fishing season, so I'm looking for one or two spinning combos to keep on the boat for people to use. Will be throwing mostly soft baits like Hogys I think. Don't want to break the bank and definitely expect to store one in Davy's locker before the summer is out. My gut tells me 7'6" M (or MH?) spinning rod like a Berkley Big Game or some Uglystik and Shimano Sedona or Sahara 5000 and spool it with 30 lb braid. Thoughts and recommendations?
