  1. Hi folks, This is my first time posting but I have been lurking around for quite some time and have learned a good deal from reading others’ posts through the site. I will be visiting Acadia on Memorial Day weekend until the middle of the following week. Im going up there to attend a wedding but I figure that I’ll try to get some saltwater fishing in. I know that it’s hit or miss for the stripers to make it up that way and even if they do, they won’t be there until later. My question is, will there be any mackerel or harbor pollock at that time that are accessible from shore in the park? I live in Maryland just on the DC line and fish the Chesapeake all the time so I don’t mind not being able to catch stripers, since those are pretty much available year round down here. I’ve never surf fished that far north so I’m wondering if anyone could say a word about shore fishing opportunities for the last week of may/first week of June around Bar Harbor. thanks!
  2. I've seen a lot of content on fishing the bridges, and I know that January is not the best month -- but that's when I'm free and that's when I'm going. Can anyone offer some January-specific DIY fishing advice for the Keys? Pretty much interested in tangling with anything of size that pulls, so not ashamed to pursue sharks, barracudas and jacks in addition to the more "desirable" species. Not looking for meat, just a good time with a buddy. So where should we go in January? What should we target in January? How should we target them in January? Very much appreciate any advice that folks can offer or direction to a thread that addresses this, if I may have missed it.
  3. My family and I are heading to Puerto Carrillo for Spring Break Mar. 29th April 6th. My son and I love/live to fish. We have rented a house above the Pacific for a week. I was wondering if anybody could help with any fishing information? Any action at all from the shore? Kayaks to rent? Grab a local with a smaller boat and pay cash to fish inshore etc etc. I'm not apposed to paying to fish offshore but typically enjoy inshore more so. Curious of the cost from a local on the beach to take us out as well. Any and all advise would be very appreciated.
  4. I've seen some older posts on this fishing topic, but I wanted to post a new one in hopes of seeing if any of the active Playa del Carmen fishermen are around the forums these days. I'll be arriving toPlaya del Carmen this Monday (for a family reunion vacation), and my son and I love to fish. We're used to upstate New Yorkfreshwater lake/river fishing (walleye, bass, etc.). We really do prefer active casting/reeling vs sitting on a charter boat looking to get a huge fish, that I personally don't have the strength (or interest) to fight. We're staying at Sandos Playacar, and if I read correctly, it sounded like Sandos was the last big resort, and therefore it's pretty "deserted" south of there - i.e. good for fishing My son and I are NOT early morning risers (I work night shift), so the later afternoon fishing interests us most. We're going out today to look at some new equipment, because I am a little worried we don't have the proper gear to land a potentially big fish (heck, I'd probably just cut the line and be freaking out I'm planning on making nice with the food staff at Sandos and asking them to save raw seafood scraps, shrimps, etc. for us to use as bait. But, if any of you are local and are looking to meet up with some (non-tourist type) traveler fishermen, hit me up. We'd love to make some new friends! I do speak Spanish (if that matters) Thanks in advance for any advice/info you may have! - Lynne
  5. @Rolfe1 @mark stotesbury I'm going on a family vacation to South Africa (in 6 hours!) and we're staying in Cape Town for a few nights before heading north for a safari. Our hotel in Cape Town is in the V&A Waterfront and -- as is my modus operandi on such family trips -- I'd like to sneak in some early-morning fishing before the wife and kids wake up. So... I'd appreciate some last-minute advice on fishing near the V&A Waterfront. We're only taking carry-on luggage, so I can pack a travel Ugly Stik rod with a Penn Fierce 3000 (running 25 lb braid and a 30 lb flouro leader) and just a few hooks and a couple of soft baits w/ jig heads... but not much else. Or should I just leave everything at home? Thanks!! Ed (PS -- I won't have the time to do a charter trip!)
