  1. Hello everybody I am bringing this topic to the table to discuss a straightforward question What conventional reel is good for casting on a long rod, for smaller sharks. Using castable shark rigs. I intend to use no less than 50lb braid. Using mono top shot as well I mainly fish conventional reels and not too big on spinners I have a custom surf rod being built 12 foot 6 inches rated 6 to 16 oz and looking to pair it with a good reel for casting out cut baits for smaller sharks Going for blacktips and spinner sharks mainly under 5 foot. The only that seems to make sense for this approach is the Accurate Valiant BV2-500 2 SPEED CONVENTIONAL below are the specs Thanks in advance Gear ratio High: 6:1 Low: 3:1 Max drag 30lb line capacity 425yds/50lb inches per crank High: 45" Low: 23" Reel weight 16.3oz Right handed

    Lbsf line help

Got a 12/0 to go with a 60-130 rod and im a little stuck on how I should do the line. I want to do the line in a way so I don’t have to worry about fishing near rocks because I wouldn’t want to get cut off. How would I do that? Less braid more mono? Like 600 yards of braid and rest mono? Or all mono? But then I heard of all mono messing up the spool so idk. If y’all have any suggestion plz hit me with them.
  3. I started getting serious about surf fishing this season. My main goal is to start targeting sharks. I just bought an okuma solaris surf rod. 12ft heavy action. It has the ability to lob up to 16 ounces of lead. I also have a df100a on the way and some carbon washers to boot. It's nothing fancy and I still plan on getting a penn prevail or airwave rod for my bg 8000. Anyone else wanna share what they started with for surf sharks?
  4. Newcomer here. I've been catching a lot of sharks and rays from the surf and I always release them. But I was on a party boat recently and saw that people were taking them home (one of them was a Blacktip, I don't know what the others were). Do all sharks (that we can take home) taste similar? I'm 50/50 on trying it... But I guess I won't know unless I try it? I read that it's best to gut it right away and ice it to prevent it from getting too much of the ammonia scent. I guess I'll start with that.
  5. Hello I've heard that there are sand tiger sharks cruising in duxbury bay, is it true are there a lot of them there right now?? I want to catch some in september, will they be outside of the bay by the outside beach or towards the inner bay?? any informations would be appreciated

  7. Does anyone have any experience with fly fishing Pelagics. I am looking for a nice setup to fly fish for sharks specifically makos
  8. Hi, Next summer I want to try to catch some small sharks (4-6 feet) from the beach in Block Island. I was watching some videos on YouTube and the guy said that he uses an Ugly Stik Bigwater 9 foot for sharks from the beach. Do you all think this would work? The rod doesn't need to have good action or be very light or any niche things like that. I just need to be able to cast bait and a sinker out into the ocean. Ugly Stiks do have a reputation for being indestructible, and they're not too expensive. Side note - is it even possible to catch sharks from Block Island? It has to be... I just never hear or see anything about it. Thanks
