  2. Hey Everyone, Heading down to my house in Hyannis at the end of next week for a few days of fishing. Will probably be focused on the south side as that's close to my home. With that said wanted to start a thread to discuss GENERAL activity going on on the South Side of the cape. General areas where fish are found, best tides, lures being used and what the bait abundance looks like. Feel free to get as specific as you want, just not trying to get lit up for spot burning. If there is already one of these threads let me know and I will delete it. Best, Chad
  3. I was able to reach and catch some schoolies from shore last week as they were blitzing , they were chasing mostly rainbait from what I could see. They were 20 to 24 inchers , and perhaps some bigger mixed in the group, but it didn't come to mind to reach for a bigger of different plug ( I was using 2oz pencil popper) to see if anything else of size was there.. Tell me what would you have done differently or what plug would you be using, also share any similar experiences and maybe some patterns you were able to discern. thanks for any advice.
  4. Schoolies are showing up here on the south shore of Long Island. I've been fortunate to take a few recently with the fly rod using some home made clousers. Wind has been blowing the past few days and will continue to do so for a few more. My fly casting technique is way to raw to contend with it. I swithced to a light loomis spinner and have been throwing 3/4 oz Andrus jetty casters and have been missing a lot of these 3 lb fish. I'm wondering if maybe the hooks in the jetty casters are too big they look like 7/0 or 8/0 on the 3/4 head. I switched to a 3/4 spro which looks like it has a 3/0 hook but found bottom quicker and had to jig it more and had less hits and few takes. Can anyone recommend a 3/4 bullet head style with lots of hair and a 3/0 or 4/0 hook? Or am I gonna have to make my own? thanks
  5. I know the state doesn't have enough officers to watch every area that is heavyly fished . My question is , how many of you have called to report fishing violations and seen an officer show up and take action ? Many have called fish and game to report violations where i fish , including me , never to receive a response or have someone come over . Someone killed a 16" striper in front of me because the a******e and his daughter wouldn't stop taking pictures with the fish . After i came over and asked them nicely to release the fish they did but was to late . Soon after he caught a 25" and he told me straight up he was going to take it home . I reported him . Nothing was done .
  6. My spot get some big nonstop blitzes in the fall. They tend to be of shore a little ways but the fish usually range from 20-34 inches though. Does anyone know of light tackle surf rods that will keep the small fish fun but still have lots of distance with small plugs and bucktails? (Preferably 9ft)
  7. Why do the little guys venture first? Is it they're get a head start for the lack of breeding?
