About Me:

Interests (Hobbies, favorite activities, etc.):

What I do for a living:

  1. Was thinking about buying a used 11’ med-heavy fast action G-Loomis surf rod GL2. Rated 12-30lb 1/2-3oz (SUR1324S). Hoping to get more info on what it’s like and what rod it compares to. Thanks
  2. What are yalls thoughts on buying a shortened rod with a replaced tip? Plan on buying a 7'6 St Croix spinning rod for cheap with a replaced tip
  3. I am looking for a 7'-8' MH rod to pair with my stradic 5k. Specifically looking for one in that length since I have a combo for every other length. I am going to use it off piers mostly to catch spots, flounder, and sea trout but also to catch bigger fish too. It needs to be capable of throwing an ounce while still being sensitive and under the $140 price range. Any recommendations? So far my top choices are the Fenwick HMG Inshore 7'6 MH (top choice) ($103) Fenwick Elite Inshore 7'6 MH ($150) Shimano Talavera 7'6 MH ($100) Shimano GLF Series Inshore MH ($100) Tsunami Carbon Shield II 7'6 MH ($110) Daiwa TD SOL Inshore 7'6 MH ($120) Daiwa ISLA 7'6 MH ($150) not interested in the st. croix triumph or the inshore
  4. Hey yall looking for a budget lightweight surf rod that is... -11' spinning rod -Tossing out 2-3.5oz sinkers -Using 20lb braid -Fast Action (a somewhat stiff rod) -Lightweight (under 14-15oz) -More guides the better -Cheap!! (Under $150) -Somewhat similar to the shimano speedmaster but lighter in weight BTW, I have tried/know about most of the common surf rods that are sold throughout the US so looking for most the under the radar rods that are sold in europe/japan. Anyone know how the Shimano Tribal TX2 handles?? My top picks for the moment are -Daiwa Coastal SP Surf (Originally $140 but on sale for $112) -Daiwa Emcast ($90) -Tsunami Trophy 2 ($125) -Okuma Rockaway MH (Originally $110 but on sale for $80) Thanks
  5. Hey yall looking for a budget lightweight surf rod that is... If there's a really nice rod I'm willing to pay extra but no more than $200 since I have to get my guides done on my other rod. -11' spinning rod -Tossing out 2-3.5oz sinkers -Using 20lb braid -Fast Action (a somewhat stiff rod) -Lightweight (under 14-15oz) -More guides the better -Cheap!! 6. Hey yall, Im looking for a 13'-14' rod asap. Can't cast far enough at the dam I fish with my 12' rod and everyone else recommended me with a longer rod. I was looking at the "Shimano SURF GAZER 13'3" rod which goe for around $300. I would like any recommendations yall have for under $350. Thanks -13'-14' rod -Not too whippy (mod/mod-fast/fast preferred) -Lightweight (under 16-18oz) -Will be throwing 3-4 oz weights and flukes -Paring with 5500 ultegra ci4

  9. It's a 2 piece 11foot Called the "bulldog" If anyone has any information on it I will greatly appreciate it Thank you
  10. Recently I broke a 1-6 11' ODM genesis I built, it was a great rod but I'm looking for better and the unimpressive 1.5 year lifespan left a bitter taste in my mouth with ODM. I'm strongly considering a CTS vapor trail but I'd like to hear how it stacks up against other top brands. The durability of a Lamiglas is also appealing but I've never liked the floppier action they have. Anyone experienced with these brands have any advice?
  11. I am just beginning to get into surf fishing and I’m looking to purchase a rod and a reel. Any suggestions on an affordable set up for a rod, reel, line and etc.? What brands are best for rod and reels? Looking to spend less than $200 for everything. Thanks!
  12. I got some good insight on this forum before so now I have another question. I bought a Daiwa BG 2500 based in insight I got from here, now I'm deciding on which rod to get for it. I went to Sportsman Warehouse where I live and looked at a lot of rods, especially the St Croix Premier, Doybins Sierra, Halo HFX, and another rod I can't recall. The sales guy put those rods out for me to see because he felt they were the best in the $150 region I was looking at, he then did something I've never seen done before, he had me hold the rods like I would fishing, and then arched the tip just a bit and placed them on his voice box on his throat and talked, supposedly I was supposed to feel his voice vibrating through the rod but the only one I could feel that happening was with the Halo, which sort of surprised the sales guy but he said my hands may not be as sensitive as other people's hands, but because I could feel the vibration I was pretty much sold on the Halo. The Halo has that 4 finger thing where the blank of the rod is exposed by where you handle it when fishing, and that could be the reason I felt the vibration since it didn't have to travel through the blank and into the foam or cork handle in order for me to feel it, so that could be the selling point for me if my hands are not as sensitive as others. Due to that test, and a lot of internet reading I kind of really like the Halo, however, on another forum they were saying that the Daiwa Tatula might be a better rod over the Halo, but I have no way to test it for that strange vibration test that I did. I do mostly freshwater inland lakes fishing up in northern Indiana, I may go to other places but that is where I live thus that is where I fish the most. I know people have their favorite rods, and reels too, I get that. So, do you guys have any insight on those two rods?
  13. Star VPR Surf vs. TFO Tactical Surf. Looking at the 10’6” MH 2-6oz in both, as well as the 9’ and 11’ sizes possibly. For anyone who has tried either or both of these brand rods, which do you prefer and why? Are they comparable? They VPR is about $40 more expensive. I need 2-3 new setups for next year (one lighter and one heavier for canal and surf, and maybe one for jettys and piers). I can’t decide between Star or TFO. Going to be using this in Cape Cod Canal, NY, NJ, and VA surf, as well as FL surf, and possibly FL and NJ jetty’s. I travel a lot to find fish lol. Considering pairing with some Vissers. Thanks in advance for any advice!
  14. Hey guys, wondering what are your thoughts on the carbon surf series from lamiglas.
  15. Tsunami airwaves elite 9ft 6 inch mint condition $140 pick up Tsunami airwave elite 11ft mint condition looks new used 1 time $160 pickup Jigging world nexus 7ft used a few times $130 pickup in queens
  16. Hi, I was wondering the difference in the jigging world nexus, hybrid, and night ranger rods, what kind of action do they all have, what species are they good for, and how were they at casting. I’m looking at the 7ft mh models 1-4oz, I’ll be using it for tog fluke and bass. so if anyone has any experience please let me know.
  17. I am looking for some Seeker Blue lightning factory (casting/conventional only) or blanks, 8' and over. I'm located in NYC but can drive a reasonable distance if the rod and price is right. Let me know what you've got!
  18. Looking for a slightly lighter set up than my SaltX 6000 and 10'6" Lamiglas to fish the North Shore of Long Island. Bought my heavier setup last year and I'm really happy with it but looking for something lighter that can still pull in nice holdover stripers! Also, not trying to break the bank... Any rec's on rods, reels, # test line I can use, and anything else on good spring lures/plugs/bait would be appreciated!
  19. Hi all. Looking to up my game and get 2 new casting setups that can throw at least 8oz (maybe up to 10) for Assateague. Currently using 11ft 2-6oz Penn Battalion setups but had trouble holding bottom last time. I cant always pick best weather when I get a chance off to head down from Baltimore. Looking to spend medium to decent money... maybe 600 total but dont hold back on more $ recommendations. Prefer options readily available somewhere and on short notice (maybe even buy by Friday or Sat. Rods- any recommendations on 11, 12, or 13fters? Glass or graphite? Need to be 2 piece cus I roll in a wrangler tj. Reels- im new to conventional casting so what reel is best? Considering 2 Abu Blue Yonder 7500s cus the mag cast control. Anything cheeper that still has mag control and good? I have heard Mono is prob best for conventional. 20 or 25lb? Colors like hi-vis Green KastKing ok? I usually use a 50lb big game shock leader for my 6oz setups... do I need to go to 80 or 100lb for throwing 8 or 10ozs? Lastly I am also planning on getting 4 long beach spikes... the ones that hold reel at chest level. Any instructions for self making or a guy that makes and sells them? Cheers Guys!
  20. Hi All, I have looked at expanding my tackle universe to include a conventional casting outfit, and am looking at a reel like the Calcutta 200D (actually the 201D, because I run that way.) I hope to use it for not too heavy plugging, bucktailing, jigging Avas and maybe fluking. Does anyone have a rod they'd pair with a reel like this? Given a choice I'd opt for something not too pricey. The reel alone will be the most expensive single piece of gear I've ever bought that I couldn't sit in. Thanks! (This is my first post here. I'm a Striper Surf refugee.)
  21. Want to buy a rod that can handle 4 to 8 oz of lead for black fishing max price is around $70 location in queens and work in Freeport sometimes
  22. Have a few old Murats and looking for an idea of the value range. 12'2pc conventional and a few spinners both honey and black all in pretty good shape with a few busted guides on some. Thank You, Bob
  23. Hello! I’m looking to learn more about surf fishing. I have some experience with surf fishing where I would tag along with a friend of mine when he sets out to fish at the beach out on Long Island, NY. Although I have a pretty good sense on casting out and reeling in, I know that there is much more to fishing than just casting and reeling. I am seeking for more knowledge when it comes to rods, reels, lines, lures and etc. Any advice, tips, techniques and guidance for a beginner wanting to become good at surf fishing is appreciated.
