  1. If money wasn’t an issue what 5 different spinning reels would y'all have in your arsenal? I'll start off Shimano Stella 8k/10k/14k (heavy duty reel) Shimano Ultegra 5500 ci4 (lightweight distance casting) Daiwa Saltiga 6k (do it all) VanStaal 100x2 (surf for stripers/blues) Daiwa Exist/Airity 3k/4k (inshore/lightweight) btw I could swap out the Stella and Saltiga sizing since the latter drag handles big fish better... HM: Okuma Maikara 20k, Saltist MQ 8k, IRT 400, Daiwa Revelry 3k , Penn Authority 10k
  2. Looking for a long-spool lightweight (16oz) surf/spinning reel for under $300. The Shimano Ultegra 5500 ci4 and the Shimano Surf Leader ci4 seem to be the only ones that fit my criteria. Matter of fact, I already have an Ultegra but plan to sell it as it is an older model and I want to upgrade. Wanted to look at more options to see what else is available Penn surfblaster, battle long cast, spinfisher long cast Shimano activecast, super aero, bullseye, kisu special, fliegen Daiwa crosscast, powersurf, longbeam, windcast, windsurf, finesurf, bascia okuma 8k are all either too heavy or too pricey
  3. Does anyone have more info on a Daiwa caldia? I plan on purchasing a 6000 size to pair with my 11' and was wondering if it had any issues. I heard the drag was much smoother than the Saragosa and that it was a budget version of the twin power/Stella. Thanks

  5. Hey yall I had some questions about backing a spool with mono before braided line. I am going to spool my 5000 penn battle 3 with 20lb braid. It says that the braid capacity for 20lb is 420 yards. I understand that usually it is okay for the amount of braid to be much less than the maximum since it is almost impossible to spool it so tightly that it can take everything. Do yall think 300yards should be enough for the penn battle 5000? And would I have to back it up with mono before?? Or should I just go with the 500 yards of braided line? I also have some leftover braid on the spool and was thinking about doing a uni-uni knot with the new 300 yards of braid just in case I would run short without it.
  6. Looking to sell these reels or trade for VR-50 or similar size Van Staal at equal value 1. (2) Penn senator - $60/each 2. Penn squall - $120 3. Abu garcia 6500 c -$60 4. Penn 750ss - $90 5. Penn battle 6000 - $65 Shipping will be calculated by location or local pickup available in Essex county NJ
  7. This reel is in excellent condition. I haven't used it much since owning. When I first bought it I had it fully serviced by Zee Baas so she's ready to be fished hard in 2023... $1500.00 or best offer
  8. Hey SOL, I'm having my grandfather's old Lamiglas 1165 redone to fish this fall and I'm trying to choose a reel. I'll probably end up putting 30lb or 40lb braid on it. I was thinking about the VS250X2 but that would mean waiting until October (hopefully). I have a spare reel i can put on in the meantime but curious at other options there are. What other fully sealed reels are out there that you all use? Visser? Shimano? Price really isn't too much of a point but don't want to go over $1000. Not super important but its a plus if it comes in all black to match the look of the Garcia Mitchell 396 that was originally on the rod. Thanks in advance, Trevor

  11. 2x Shimano egg knobs. One off 18k Saragosa, been on a handful of boat rides. One off 14k Twin Power, also on a few boat rides. Both are used but as close to new as possible. No bearings/bushings. Come with the little bearing puller that comes with Yumeya knobs. $25 shipped each.
  12. Hi - I want to do an off season maintenance on my reels. Tired of paying a premium for some kid to add grease, but on the other hand I don't do it myself. Any advice on technique or grease recommendations? Talking about working on a Diawa, Penn and eventually want to restore some old classics that are sitting on a wall. As always, thanks!
  13. I’m considering buying a van staal vs 50. What do you guys think? Is there any better option Ford light plugging
  14. Hello all. Its my first time here at this forum. I am from Europe, Portugal. There is no Daiwa Saltist Back-Bay to sell in Europe, but this year Daiwa released Daiwa BG RR ARK. My question is if anyone knows if the internal mechanics are same in the two reels (machine aluminium gears)? Or even if the reels are the same but with only some aesthetics diferences. And about the sealing in the back bay? I have seen tackle advisors review but didnt understand how it compares to other reels in terms os sealing (comparing to spinfisher vi or slammer 3 in 4000 sizes). Regards
  15. Looking for a slightly lighter set up than my SaltX 6000 and 10'6" Lamiglas to fish the North Shore of Long Island. Bought my heavier setup last year and I'm really happy with it but looking for something lighter that can still pull in nice holdover stripers! Also, not trying to break the bank... Any rec's on rods, reels, # test line I can use, and anything else on good spring lures/plugs/bait would be appreciated!
  16. While cleaning out my parents house I came across a bunch of old reels. There are some old Hendryx, Penn, Mitchel and various other reels. I am sure they aren't worth much but I think they look cool and since they were my dad's I would like to display them somehow in my fly tying area. I know I can just put up a few shelves but anyone have any other ideas? I was thinking maybe old reclaimed wood or something.
  17. Two - New Accurate Fury 400 $225.00 each They are paired with Catch the Fever rods that are also brand new. I will sell them with the rods if you are interested at $325.00 per combo. These reels are both new, never hit the water, I have a box for one and lost the other box. The Fury is Accurate's entry into the single drag market. These reels are designed with all the precision and power you come to expect from Accurate.
  18. DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO REMOVE THE DRAG WASHER ASSEMBLY FROM A SALTX 6000 REEL. THE RETAINER THAT HOLDS IT ON IS VERY DIFFICULT TO MOVE WITH TH PLASTIC TOOL SUPPLIED WITH THE REEL.
  19. Hi all. Looking to up my game and get 2 new casting setups that can throw at least 8oz (maybe up to 10) for Assateague. Currently using 11ft 2-6oz Penn Battalion setups but had trouble holding bottom last time. I cant always pick best weather when I get a chance off to head down from Baltimore. Looking to spend medium to decent money... maybe 600 total but dont hold back on more $ recommendations. Prefer options readily available somewhere and on short notice (maybe even buy by Friday or Sat. Rods- any recommendations on 11, 12, or 13fters? Glass or graphite? Need to be 2 piece cus I roll in a wrangler tj. Reels- im new to conventional casting so what reel is best? Considering 2 Abu Blue Yonder 7500s cus the mag cast control. Anything cheeper that still has mag control and good? I have heard Mono is prob best for conventional. 20 or 25lb? Colors like hi-vis Green KastKing ok? I usually use a 50lb big game shock leader for my 6oz setups... do I need to go to 80 or 100lb for throwing 8 or 10ozs? Lastly I am also planning on getting 4 long beach spikes... the ones that hold reel at chest level. Any instructions for self making or a guy that makes and sells them? Cheers Guys!
  20. Hi All, I have looked at expanding my tackle universe to include a conventional casting outfit, and am looking at a reel like the Calcutta 200D (actually the 201D, because I run that way.) I hope to use it for not too heavy plugging, bucktailing, jigging Avas and maybe fluking. Does anyone have a rod they'd pair with a reel like this? Given a choice I'd opt for something not too pricey. The reel alone will be the most expensive single piece of gear I've ever bought that I couldn't sit in. Thanks! (This is my first post here. I'm a Striper Surf refugee.)

  24. Hello! I’m looking to learn more about surf fishing. I have some experience with surf fishing where I would tag along with a friend of mine when he sets out to fish at the beach out on Long Island, NY. Although I have a pretty good sense on casting out and reeling in, I know that there is much more to fishing than just casting and reeling. I am seeking for more knowledge when it comes to rods, reels, lines, lures and etc. Any advice, tips, techniques and guidance for a beginner wanting to become good at surf fishing is appreciated.
