In prepping to start my winter tying for the spring a few weeks back I opened up my supply box only to find my fairly new bottle (2 oz) of Solarez Thick had somehow completely leaked out all over the bottom of my box, on top of my new Stonfo tying vise and all my SW hooks. The smell was overpowering and lucky for me being closed in a box and in my closest, hadn't been exposed to any sunlight otherwise I'm not sure what I would have done. Cleanup with close to a bottle of alcohol took close to two hours and my hooks are still sticky. Need to replace my bottle, which I purchased at last year's Edison show from Joe Calcavecchia along with a Chinese knockoff UV light, so I started looking this year at Edison. No bargains to be found, all vendors selling the 2oz bottle for about $35. Checked Amazon, same price. One of the dealers told me they fix the retail price so you can't get it cheaper anywhere. Not a fan in not allowing competition set pricing. So, to make this long story longer I started to look for an alternative and the first one I picked looks like a real winner. Purchased a Jewelry UV Resin for $24, $10 less than the Solarez, however the Solarez is only 2 ounces and the Jewelry Resin is 200 grams or 7 ounces. 3-1/2 times more for $10 less. Gets better. Virtually no smell, especially compared to the Solarez. Only did a couple of sample cures drops on a Teflon sheet but sets up very hard in under a minute under the light and not sticky at all. Sometimes the Solarez still had a slight tack to it. I suspect the light wavelength is important. Joe told me the light he sold me was as good as or better than the "official light". Tried to find another on Amazon but they're out of stock. There is another that looks identical with the same wavelength specs so I've included that below as well. If you're thinking of taking the jump to UV this might be a good place to start. HT
