Hi - new member, 1st post, so apologies if this isn't in the correct forum. I'm looking at getting a new set up and have decided on the Shimano Stradic FL. Unfortunately, the 3000 I want is completely sold out in US it seems. I can find a 2500 or 4000 here or there. I fish almost exclusively at a pier/inlet in jersey (no surf fishing yet). Normally targeting summer flounder, sometimes will take blues if they're running. Hope to stumble across a striper or two. I normally use bait, but have just recently begun to teach myself bucktail jigging (any suggestions on this welcome as well!). Anyway, with that as background, I'm pretty sure the 2500 is sufficient for what I'm targeting but wanted some second opinions . The only reason I even hesitate is there is a chance once or twice a year I may end up on a party boat and would maybe rather the 4000 for that. I currently have a Daiwa BG 3000, so diversifying my lineup would be added benefit. As an aside, any rod suggestions to pair the reel with would be welcome, specifically with the bucktails in mind. Anyone ever used a 13 fishing Omen green or Shimano Teramar SE inshore? Because of the tidal currents where I fish, I've been using 1 1/2 oz to 2 oz Spro bucktails, but again I'm just trying to learn that so maybe I'm off base and using way too heavy?

I'm new to jetty and inlet fishing, and I'd love to hear what tides people favor when fishing inlets. After a few trips, I think I may be partial towards end of the drop, to fish through incoming as often as I can. What do you prefer? How do you work your bucktails? Darters? When fishing a new inlet, what do you look for safety-wise when you don't know it well yet? Felt or spiked soles? GO! and TIA

I'm looking to get a heavy snook rod. I fish inlets and throw flair hawks and heavy swimbaits most of the time. Needs to be 8' with enough backbone to turn the head of a big snook. I've looked at the Stellar Lite SG1525FT80 and the Tidemaster TIS80HF, but I'm not sure if I want to push the budget that much for the tidemaster. Is it that much better? One more thing, it needs a tip soft enough to throw occasional live baits. But, before that, it needs to throw the artificials because that's what I use 90% of the time. I've also considered the Falcon Lowrider Salt LSS-8XH and the Teramar TMSX80XH, if anyone has any opinions on them as well. Edit: Does anyone know how the backbone is on the SG1525FT80 compared to the SG1530S80? Both stellar lites, but one is fast taper. Thank you.

Hey guys, so yesterday I fished this skinny/shallow inlet throughout high tide (low tide is inaccessible for fish) and I found schools of bunker cruising the surface with their mouths open, along with small unknown baitfish. I had fish this area once a month ago and caught tons of schoolies, I came back today knowing that bigger baitfish were here with potential bigger stripers. I threw everything in my bag (even a live eel) with no hits. Am I doing something wrong? Or is it possible that no predators were in the area? Are striped bass known to go in shallow water, or are they hidden in the deep pockets near the rocks? I spent hours trying to figure out what was the problem. If you want to know the spot, PM me.
