I know some states have certain charities/food banks that seized fish from the DEM/DEEP are donated to, but are there organizations that accept donations directly from recreational anglers? I’d imagine there may be health/safety regulation hurdles.
I bring this up because I’ve already kept enough eaters to give some to friends and family who really appreciate it and keep enough for myself. It’s all catch and release for me now.
However, I’ve had several keepers get a hook in the gills, through the head, etc. which probably wouldn’t make it. When I know they won’t and they’re over 28 I’ll obviously keep it. But it would be nice to be able to donate to a local charity or soup kitchen where it will be used fresh for a good cause. Maybe local church-run operations?
