  1. Earlier this season I acquired 5 Murat rods in a large lot sale, 4 casters and boat rod. A collector in Conn. bought them all. Here are 2 boat rods from another lot. I contacted the same collector about these 2 and his opinion they could be Murat's. They were custom made for Skip Warr owner of Warr's Boat Yard in Wareham Mass. I knew Skip from Cuttyhunk as his dad Bud had a cottage on the island. If Skip is still around my guess he would be in his 90's. I suspect these may be Murat's from the Attleboro shop after Charlie passed. Compared to the earlier ones that I had the white rubber base is identical to the previous 5, Hi quality reel seat and guides, crossing thread-work at the handle are making me lean towards Murat. They are identical except one is topped with an AFTCO roller, the other a carballoy top top, probably one for wire the other leadcore. Can any of you folks shed some light on these two? Thanks
  2. searched, but came up with few answers... though I read LOTS of posts about fancy fancy spinning outfits. I'm a 100% fly guy, fishing out of a boat in western Long Island Sound. I have some non-fly friends and my daughter, who want to join me for the 2021 fishing season, so I'm looking for one or two spinning combos to keep on the boat for people to use. Will be throwing mostly soft baits like Hogys I think. Don't want to break the bank and definitely expect to store one in Davy's locker before the summer is out. My gut tells me 7'6" M (or MH?) spinning rod like a Berkley Big Game or some Uglystik and Shimano Sedona or Sahara 5000 and spool it with 30 lb braid. Thoughts and recommendations?
  3. What slammer 3 and boat rod preferable 6’6 would you pair up for Stripers
  4. Hi Everybody, long time lurker here who could use some advice on my next gear fix. Im narrowed it down to a left hand Avet sx mc 5.3 paired with a Trevala rod, which I'm going to use for jigging and as an all around boat rod. I generally fish the mouth of the Patuxent on the Chesapeake Bay for Blues and Stripers. What I'm not yet sure about is the rod weight. The nice guys over at JandH tackle recommended Medium Heavy. While there is definitely potential for some cows in the Spring and Fall, I'm wondering if a medium would be better in order to keep it a bit sporty for the smaller to medium sized fish, while having enough backbone to handle bigger stripers and blues. Im new to jigging so dont know that much about it, but i definitely plan to use it to jig the 100 foot hole at the mouth of the Patuxent. From what i've learned so far (not much) I'm guessing that will be 2-5 oz jigs. I figured i could also use it for chunking, live-lining spot, and throwing some lures that are too heavy for the light spinning rig i usually cast with. Any thoughts or recommendations highly appreciated!
