Does anyone have the new slammer 4 5500 bailess? There is next to nothing online about it besides a J&H tackle product vid. Seems odd there isn’t any info on it anywhere.

I have 3 Penn 704Zs. One I purchased new when I first started surf fishing. The other two were purchased 2nd hand from someone who took magnificent care of them. I never used those. They were serviced, cleaned up, greased and made whole before I bought them. Then they sat on a shelf. I have 2 questions. 1. Is there a way to identify when they were made/what generation they are? Mine appears newer than the 2 I got second hand. The reel handles are different. 2. One of the reels has been converted to bailess. The anti reverse lock on this one no longer engages. Could this be a modification the previous owner made or do I need to fix it? Would someone do that? To silence the clicker maybe? Thanks.

If I go bailess, would that result in less windknots? It's not the reel, the line, it's me. Something I'm doing. I'm trying everything I can but still get knots and I'm getting tired of roasting spools of line. I always tension the line before snapping the bail shut, not sure what is going on.

Hi all! I am brand new to this site so any tips as to doing things on here the right way please let me know. I am looking for a new surf setup for stripers for this coming season. I am still fairly new to surf fishing, only have 2 seasons of inconsistent fishing under my belt. I will be graduating college this May so budget does come into play but I am still looking for quality gear that will last me at least a couple of seasons. I will be fishing anywhere from the canal south into Rhode Island with most of my fishing taking place in the New Bedford area of mass. I do love to hit the canal with that making up most of my fishing 2 seasons ago. This past season I still made at least 15-20 trips there but mostly stayed closer to home. this past season it was made up mostly of fishing a rip that forms at the inlet of a salt pond on an open sand beach and at a small point between the mouths of two rivers with many bars around forming some nice channels. At both of these spots I mostly throw 1/2oz al gags, 3/4 - 1 1/2 oz bucktails, super strike little necks, darters, and needle fish, and some Gibbs pencils. This season I’m looking to explore some more and maybe hit some more exposed beaches and rocky areas as well as venture out in rough, storm conditions. Outside of the canal I have yet to catch anything over 36 inches but hope this season will be different. My current setup is a penn carnage 2 10” 1-5oz paired with a penn battle 2 5000. I love this setup. I also have a tsunami shield 5000 that I loved for a season and used a lot but last season gave me nothing but issues with wind knots constantly so did not see as much action as the battle 2 I was thinking about maybe going for a 9” rod in the 3/4-3 oz range to have a bit more of a lighter setup as the carnage is a bit overkill for these spots. I had the tsunami trophy series 2 9” 3/4-3 oz in mind for the rod. As for the reel I had the penn spinfisher vi in mind. At the salt pond rip I do wade out a ways and my reels do get splashed so I’m looking for something that will be able to handle get sprayed and on occasion partially submerged when caught of guard. I am not sure what size reel would be best though as I do like to have my reel be able to handle the canal as well for when friends visit and want to join me on a canal trip but would also like to have a bit lighter setup to have more fun with these school sized fish but also handle some bigger fish when I do find them. I was also thinking about maybe going for the bailless version which does make the sizes for this reel to the 4500 and the 6500 any input and help on this would be much appreciated. Thank you all in advance!

Selling my Penn Torque II 5500 bailess (USA made), purchased last spring and used it for all of the fall run. Cosmetically it doesnt have a scratch but unfortunately some water got into the body and froze the mainshaft roller bearing (see pics). There is also a slight squeak when reeling very slowly I cant seem to diagnose. All other parts including the line roller, side handle bearings, drag, gears, and seals are like new. The reel currently functions fine but I like to be transparent as possible. Im sure someone with better tools/understanding could replace that bearing in a few minutes or just send to Penn for a quick service. I now have a new Zeebaas, VR50 as well as a few VSXs and just dont want to deal with getting it serviced nor do I need it anymore hence why my asking is low for this reel. (Line is 30# J-Braid). Again please see pics: $350 Shipped paypal comes with box, papers etc.

Hi everyone, I was recently visiting a new tackle shop and saw a VR 50 that caught my eye. I took it out of the case and played around with it for a little while and it is a pretty awesome little reel. I thought that it would be awesome if it could be made bailess. Does anyone know if there is a kit out there for this? Or has anyone tried to do it with theirs? I know there is a kit for the larger VR series reels, just not sure if there is one for the smaller one.

I love casting bailess reels like Van Staals in the surf. I know of the smaller surf reels like the VSX 100, but are there any reels that are even smaller than this. I would love to see a company make a 2500- 4000 size reel that can be used in both inshore and even freshwater applications. I was wondering if anyone knew if this type of reel exists, or if it would be possible to modify something like a Stradic to allow for bailess use. I guess this would be done by adding an oversized line roller? Has anyone ever tried? Thanks in advance Salty

I bought this from Bass Pro in April, 2017. This was a reel for me to try out "bailess". I took it on 5 outings. It was never dunked either in water or sand. I am trying to sell reels that I don't use enough. I see myself using bailed reels over bailess reels going forward. I could not find the box or manual, so I will only be shipping the reel. I have it written down on my fishing log that it has 40 lb Spiderwire Stealth braid. I am selling this at $85 shipped. I accept Venmo, Paypal, Check, or BoA wire. I think the preferred method is Paypal on this forum for buyer/seller protection.

Selling a very good condition VS200SX bailess model purchased winter 2016. I am the original owner (still have original receipt). Used for 2 1/2 seasons, has the usual usage scratches on the handle knob and some rash on the bottom(shown in pics). Comes with orignal box, bag, paperwork, etc. Other than that 10/10 mechanically and 9/10 cosmetically imo. $620.00 shipped via pp insured

$100 PayPal or best reasonable offer. Well used, but well maintained Saragosa 8000F (this is the previous version the the current SW). I have the bailless kit for it but the bail is currently installed. It has it's share of boat rash and skuffs, but none that impair the function in any way, the spool lip is mint. The plastic piece on the right side of the body has fallen off which is common on these reels. I have sealed the hole so there is no chance of water intrusion. I think I've priced it pretty good even though cosmetically is struggles. Mechanically it's 9/10, still very smooth with a great drag. It's loaded with 50# suffix braid, probably over 225 yds on there. Box and original papers included. Will ship USPS priority mail with tracking to CONUS.

I am selling a bailess Van Staal VS150 Gold that is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition. It is spooled with 20lb braid and includes the original box, bag, and paperwork. This a Chinese made model. Price is $525 plus shipping & paypal and I am located on Cape Cod. I am not interested in any trades and selling because I am downsizing my tackle collection. Thanks for looking!

I was wondering whether anybody has tried or been successful in fishing a Fin Nor Lethal bailless? I've got some of the typical high end reels but with four boys who fish and are now going to college, spending the big bucks is not on the horizon. Having done a lot of research including the Hawk review, this seems like a great reel for the money and can withstand the lack of care my sons won't give it. My only reservation is I very much prefer bailess spinning reels and have in the past backed off purchasing some high-end imports because it seemed like a crime to just cut the bail wire, try and wind down the bail screw and hope it worked. Any input would be helpful, thanks in advance.

I need to upgrade a few other reels in the arsenal. Can't afford the high-end stuff and want to go a notch or two up from the SSV6500 BLS. Does anybody know if there is a bailess kit available for the Penn Clash CLA 6000? Or has anyone had success on their own trying to make it bailess? Thanks in advance
