I've been predominantly fishing the surf for the past two years but now I want to start exploring and fishing the bay side of Island Beach State Park. Are there any other access points to walk and wade other than the kayak launch area down by 22? I've hiked out to the bird blind before but not sure if there is any easy access to the water from there.

I have been doing some striper fishing out of my kayak in the bay and rivers of NJ but I am not happy with the length of my rod handle. The handle portion seems too long to fish while siting in my kayak. What rod do you guys recommend for fishing back bay/river stripers & blues from a kayak?

Shimano Teramar Diawa BG 3000 Back Bay Set up
patfont posted a topic in General Buy/Sell/Trade Forum
Hi, Have a real nice set up here: Shimano Teramar rod- Great all around rod, many of the guys at Tackle Direct use this rod! Diawa BG 3000- I just pulled the drag stack and greased with Cal's grease. The reel is loaded with fresh XL smooth casting 12lb. This rod/reel combo weights about 1lb 2oz I bought both new at Tackle Direct and have the BG 3000 box. $175.00 takes it, best to meet up/pick up South Jersey. Thanks for looking, Pat- 5 replies

For sale: Daiwa Saltist Westcoast Inshore spinning rod 8'3" medium light two piece. 50/50 split. Rated 3/16 - 1 oz. Condition is like new, used 3-4 times. The rod weighs only 4 oz! It's good for freshwater and light saltwater. It does cast up to 1 oz very well but i find it more sensitive with lures up to 1/2 oz or less. It is fast action feels more towards moderate fast. Price is $120 picked up in Brooklyn, NY. Sorry, no shipping.

Stupid question. I want to fish some back bays and a tidal river (Nissequogue), the banks have a lot of grass. Sometimes the grass is under water, sometimes not. Do I need to be super concerned about ticks? I am planning on coating my waders with Permethrin.

So there is a spot I frequent close to home in the bay. It’s a night time only spot, my schoolie spot basically. When I plan to fish this location generally I bring smaller lures. Keitech’s, 1/2 oz or less buck tails, unweighted plastics and the such. I have caught many bass there but never one over 26”. This spring it’s been loaded and I mean loaded with adult bunker. Generally the seem unmolested but sporadically I witness some large splashes so I’m pretty sure there being preyed upon somewhat. In this location the water is almost always flowing right to left and to my left is a bridge, so this limits my casting presentation a little as far as being able to fish with or against the current. I’ve thrown larger stuff trying to match the hatch of big adult bunker but have had zero success doing so. Finally! If you made it this far my question is what would you throw in this situation? And are you retrieving with or against the current? Does that usually matter?

So I picked up the new do it molds swimbait head jig to keep my busy over the winter. It comes set up for a new Mustad light wire hook, which was a little thin for my liking. I ordered some 5/0 VMC Barbarian regular wire hook and they fit with just a tiny filing around the hook eye. Can't wait to get these in the water come this March.
