  1. So I picked up a used truck camper last fall and will be looking for a proper truck to haul it this spring. Intended uses for this truck and camper are: 1) Family camping/excursions/hotel avoidance 2) Going to Assateague to surf fish/camp 3) Elk hunting base camp 4) General truck use From the above list, you'll see that highway travel will be involved in a significant part of its use, and based on everything I've read about carrying a not-small truck camper, I'd like to get a dually, most likely a 99-03 ford 7.3 diesel crew cab. I know that NPS now permits dually's on the beach. They also state a 10,000# vehicle GVWR limit. But I'm not aware of any semi-modern (i.e., of the era I listed above or newer) dually truck that doesn't have a GVWR over NPS's 10,000# limit. Their policy seems to be in conflict. Does anyone have any experience with how they handle this in practice? I don't want to buy a truck that I can't use for one of its primary purposes and I also want to buy one that provides maximum safety while hauling a large truck camper over a lot of highway. Yes, I could (and probably eventually will) call up NPS at Assateague but I'm not sure I wamt to just have the letter of the law read back to me when in practice things might be a little different. Seems like I see plenty of threads on people using one tons and dually's at Assateague, and the dually provision seems to be aimed at accommodating those rigs. Brent
  2. Hi all hope you are still having a great off season! Im starting to shift my thinking towards preparing for my first 2018 OC/ AI trip. Had a slow offseason but busted my cherry on some trips to florida pier fishing and San diego for a 1.5 day bluefin tuna trip. Through the wealth of knowledge gained last year by very knowledgeable and sharing fellow SOL'rs I am geared up and all there is left is to go... well, that and a few small loose ends I hope to clarify by dusting off your frost-laiden noggin's. What terminal tackle techniques for spring surf AI fishing differ from the fall? IE specifically bite leader lengths and hook sizes for Stripers vs Bull red? What difference in casting distance and beach structure positioning? I learned last year all to late that distance is not needed for Reds but heard that Stripers are usually further out. What water temp should I look for as the sign to load up and go for the first trip? Bait, bait, bait! What and where to get it for spring. Last year by reports was apparently the best bluefish run in decades... I missed it by a storm and a few days as I only got my jeep ready and my AI pass on May 5th. Any thoughts on this year as a possible repeat? Lastly I mentioned I am all geared up, well except for some proper long rod spikes... still debating on calling that Delaware rack guy to buy some 5 footers (need 3-4) or try and make them myself with angle stock and pvc. Any recommendations? Tight lines! Thanks in advance. PS. Any Delmarva guys ever hit up the Cape Cod Canal in the spring? Also got all the travel gear ready for that northern lure action this year. When does that usually kick off?
