  3. Hey! I want to buy a new Abu to play with and I have the chance to buy an used 9/10 condition Abu 5001C reel from 1986 for $200 Canadian. I have also been looking into buying a new Abu 5501 Pro Rocket Black Edition for $259.99 Canadian. I've been doing a lot of research and looking into the internal schematics and I cannot find much information on these reels. I've attached both schematics below and circled the differences in red. For the Pro Rocket Black Editions all I can find for info is that some people say they cast further than the C3/C4's, and that they feel more sturdy, but others say there is little difference more than a marketing gimmick over the C3/C4's. On the schematics (below) the only difference is the side plate has an second cast control knob (dual cast control knobs), and inside the second knob is a speed bullet or speed bushing. I can't find any more information nor can I understand how or why that would make much difference for casting as the C3/C4's are factory centered spools, and almost identical inside besides the second cast control knob and speed bullet. Then there is 5001C from 1986. I can't find much info on it and can't even figure out what the gear ratio is? Seems 4.7:1 is likely but maybe someone can chime in? It's a bit different design inside as you can see in the schematics (below) it has it's spool and spool shaft as one piece with the bearings on either end instead of in between the shaft and the spool like on modern Abu's. I am wondering how this would cast compared to the newer ones, feel, and hold up? I have an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5501 C3 that I made a few upgrades to (Dual worm drive bearings, ceramic spool bearings, cog wheel bearing, and ceramic pawl). I enjoy how easy it is to take apart and clean. It would be sweet to buy one of these reels I have listed and have a second Abu to work with. I am hoping that one of these reels would be a step up in the casting distance department/quality feel department. I use it to cast 10grams to 30 grams of lead with a 5 foot leader to a lure (spinner) that has no weight on the ocean from shore in the Pacific north west for Salmon. Any info would be appreciated
  4. Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 7000C. Built by Abu Sweden, in Excellent condition, with only a couple of very light marks on the finish. The reel comes in the original box with owner’s manual, rod clamp & bolts, wrench, lube and spare centrifugal brake weights. The reel has not been fished since recent complete cleaning and lubrication. $159 shipped to contiguous 48 states. Thanks.
  5. Been working on my technique a lot lately but still can't always get it where I need it. Soo i've decided ill either get a longcast (probably ssvi 65/7500 or maybe a ULTEGRA XTC), or an 11ft casting rod for one of my conventional reels. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with both and how distance compares. How would the level wind affect distance. Should i use the one without the LW. Would prob end up using mono on the conventional reel at least to start so how will that change things. I think i'm inclined to get a longcast reel because i think id be more willing to wade in which would give me a good extra bit of distance and maybe a cheep casting rod cause i think i want to learn. But any thoughts welcome.
  6. Selling a used Abu garcia, "the original" ambassadeur, size 6000. Reel is in excellent shape, used a few years and caught many stripers, blues and fluke with it, but don't use it nearly enough since I got more into low profiles in Salt. Has the abu garcia power handle on it, and currently has 30 lb braid on it. $75 shipped.
  7. "Abu Ambassadeur Mag Elite 5500 CS" I originally got this reel about 15 years ago brand new as NOS(New Old Stock) thanks to an act of kindness from another SOL member who located them from his local store. I think this reel was first introduced back in 1995 and had some Copyright issues with its name and discontinued the production few years later. I've seen ones without "Mag Elite" name a few times and believe that was a brief post law suit production which I don't think it lasted either. So that makes this reel being manufactured 20+ years ago easily, I believe. This is one reel that I go back again and again for the surf plug casting here in No-Cal as I am totally happy with its distance performance and consistency. As I had so much expectations on this reel from my previous ME 6500 CS use and it was already out of production , I ended up getting two of them and saved one to this day. After 15 years of use, the first one is still going strong - may be a bit loose and worn here and there but still strong - so I needed an excuse to open this box. Well, I decided to say Happy Birthday to ME.... I had some upgraded replacement parts ordered and lined up as well. Those are listed below with some pics taken during the upgrade... - Carbon drag washer kit - Power handle - ABEC 7 spool bearings - Cog wheel gear with integrated bearing - Level winder worm gear with two bearings - Ceramic pawl for level winder worm gear Forgot to include the ceramic pawl in this shot... Will come in later pics.... Disassembly starts... Right spindle cap.. be careful not to crush the black plastic spindle holder during assembly.. Carbon drag washers, yeah..... ABEC 7 spool bearings... Cog wheel gear with bearing... worm gear with bearings on both ends and the ceramic pawl to save the friction and wear... Some details on worm gear with bearing addition... Whole view with top side showing original parts... Various lubes used. All done... A shot with twin brother... And some beautiful memories with its older bro... to be retired as backup and watch his young bro to shine on....
  8. I have an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 7000i reel. Reel has hardly been used, maybe 2 dozen times and lived on a shelf for years. Comes with box, papers, oil, brakes, and reel seat clamp. All original parts. Small chip near thumb switch, other than that the reel is mint. This is a great reel for someone looking to get into chunking, throws weights down to 2oz up to 10oz with ease and minimal backlashes. Very beginner friendly too. Asking $75 shipped or $65 local pick up near Queens... Thanks for looking.
  9. I have an old 70’s vintage Ambassadeur 6000C and the post on the Brake Plate that the handle revolves on is a little loose. It works, but the post will rotate making disassembly difficult. So far, I have been just putting up with it. Is there a way to fix this? It appears that the post is swaged into the plate and that joint is a little loose. Or do I need to find a new brake plate assembly?
  10. Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 7500CT Big Game Collection. This reel works well. It does have a few scuffs. $130 or best offer
  11. Hi guys I bought her to go fishing but might be a bit too nice to do that to it I feel bad considering it has the manuals and all the tools, anyone know a value or why this box is different to the others online with the fishes? G
  12. Hi guys, greetings from Australia It seems like most people that own Morrums collect them and don't take them out often but out of the members that do, does anyone have any product info of what the bigger 7700 and 6600 were designed to do? I have a mate that I recently purchased a small 3600 Morrum off of and am negotiating on his Suveran, he wasn't going to originally get rid of them but I promised I would fish with them so now he has offered me access the rest of his Morrums. Thing is if its a freshwater only reel then its complete overkill for anything round here I know of, I would love to throw it on a boat rig for when I get the chance to go out because then I could actually use it; but it seems the consensus belief that the bearings are too exposed and will suffer from corrosion quick? Any one have first hand experience for or against this tale I would love to hear from you. Kind regards, G
