  1. Looking to buy an older Abu Garcia 5500c (one of the silver Made in Sweden ones) like the one in the pic. Doesn't need to have the power handle (the factory handle is fine) and doesn't need line. I'm looking to spend about $40 shipped/PP'd but would prefer local pick up in Nassau County, Long Island. Thanks guys!
  2. After sorting my garage, I'm cleaning out my parts I've collected over the years. I still have a few reels I'm thinking of letting go. (Later) I have 10 original Abu 6500 CT sidebar frames. Made in Sweden. All in very very good to excellent condition. They might have tiny usage or storage marks. But nothing crazy, I would tell you if so. Best and easiest option if you want to convert your levelwind 6x00 to a CT version. Just simply transfer sideplates, shaft, and spool. Boom, 'finito. Fits all 6000,6500,6600 models. $50/each shipped to your door. Paypal. I just took two pictures, they all look the same in condition. I might have extra spools and shafts from back when I used to do distance casting. So you can upgrade from a 4000, or 5000 to a 6500 CT.
  3. Want to let go of my Abu 7000/7500 built from my backup parts. Made from sideplate, handle, drag star from an Abu 7000 HSN ( high speed narrow ). Made in Taiwan, NOT china. Bonus points. Frame is from an Abu 7500C3, cut off top bar and added a round bar CT conversion. Spool from same Abu 7500C3. Great liteweight reel, better than the chinese ones, aluminum sideplates and handle from taiwan, while everything else is made in Sweden. Great combo, weighs alot less then the flat bar CT frame, or chrome sideplates. Minor spots of pitting on thumb side of spool. But that doesnt matter of effect anything. Little bit of black nail polish and problem solved. Very light usage Mark's. Great reel. No box and stuff. $130 shipped. PayPal. Quickpay. Zelle.
  4. I got a few high end conventional rods that I have never seen the water. Tbh I have never even tried using any before. Because I have heard it's alot harder to use. But last night I met an old timer at FINS who suggested I give it a try. To say the least the guy seemed to be able to cast as far as I could , but with much better accuracy. Again this will be my first attempt at using a non spinning reel. So I'm just looking for something to get started with. That is also easy to use. Thanks gents
  5. Cleaning up the garage during COVID and realized... I got alot of stuff unused. I'm sure everyone's been in my shoes right now. I can take and provide video or item in action on request, inspection, sounds etc etc. Dont see many of these reels anymore nowadays. #1 Abu 5500CS Pro Rocket. Had this for numerous years now. It's been on the surf a few times. Has some light light usage marks. But fantastic reel. My father just doesnt use it anymore as hes getting older. I upgrade Carbontex drags. Dual bearing levelwind. Titanium line guide. Ceramic pawl. Hybride ceramic bearings. Stainless steel main gear. Notched freespool button. To prevent engages on cast. Changed to a gunmetal frame and handle to match rod it was on. Sold original silver frame. I'll discount price a bit to reflect on this. Lost box ages ago during move. I never intended to sell this anyways. $185 shipped. Located in NYC. Would prefer to ship to social distance. Will sanitize all before boxing. Take PayPal, check, Chase or Zelle Quickpay.

  11. Red Abu 7000 made in Sweden. Bought here some time ago. Well used and it shows but still functions and with some elbow grease most of the corrosion shouldn't be an issue. 12. "Abu Ambassadeur Mag Elite 5500 CS" I originally got this reel about 15 years ago brand new as NOS(New Old Stock) thanks to an act of kindness from another SOL member who located them from his local store. I think this reel was first introduced back in 1995 and had some Copyright issues with its name and discontinued the production few years later. I've seen ones without "Mag Elite" name a few times and believe that was a brief post law suit production which I don't think it lasted either. So that makes this reel being manufactured 20+ years ago easily, I believe. This is one reel that I go back again and again for the surf plug casting here in No-Cal as I am totally happy with its distance performance and consistency. As I had so much expectations on this reel from my previous ME 6500 CS use and it was already out of production , I ended up getting two of them and saved one to this day. After 15 years of use, the first one is still going strong - may be a bit loose and worn here and there but still strong - so I needed an excuse to open this box. Well, I decided to say Happy Birthday to ME.... I had some upgraded replacement parts ordered and lined up as well. Those are listed below with some pics taken during the upgrade... - Carbon drag washer kit - Power handle - ABEC 7 spool bearings - Cog wheel gear with integrated bearing - Level winder worm gear with two bearings - Ceramic pawl for level winder worm gear Forgot to include the ceramic pawl in this shot... Will come in later pics.... Disassembly starts... Right spindle cap.. be careful not to crush the black plastic spindle holder during assembly.. Carbon drag washers, yeah..... ABEC 7 spool bearings... Cog wheel gear with bearing... worm gear with bearings on both ends and the ceramic pawl to save the friction and wear... Some details on worm gear with bearing addition... Whole view with top side showing original parts... Various lubes used. All done... A shot with twin brother... And some beautiful memories with its older bro... to be retired as backup and watch his young bro to shine on....

  19. Last Fall I began a collection of freshwater vintage fishing gear, not for "collecting", but intending to use it!! Rods, reels, plugs, spoons and spinners, with classic Umco tackle boxes to boot. I had a great Fall with a few items, made me want to seek out more. UL rods are indeed top notch, Fenwick , St Croix and Garcia Conolon, matched with Mitchell reels. Some of these lures may be valuable, where others may not even be "vintage". No matter to me, I just want to fish in a time warp! I won most items on EBay, at surprisingly great prices, but a few rods and reels hit my wallet. Favorite rods are 1957_58, first issue SilaFlex, with action as good as several modern rods I own, Garcia Conolon , custom Golden Gate, Heddon Pal M4, & Fenwick FS50. Favorite reels are Mitchell 308, rare 908, 300, a few Dams and a cool Ted Williams baitcast. Favorite lures are ABU Toby spoons, Ozark woodchoppers, Heddon Crazy Crawlers, Eiger Dillingers, Pumpkin seeds, Dalton Specials, South Bend Orenos and Barracuda shiners. I'm ready to roll, just need to work on my vintage attire! :-)
  20. Hi guys I bought her to go fishing but might be a bit too nice to do that to it I feel bad considering it has the manuals and all the tools, anyone know a value or why this box is different to the others online with the fishes? G
  21. Hi guys and greetings from Australia, Im a keen fisherman and have recently received a rod and reel courtesy of an old friend who is no longer with us, I've had exposure to bait casters for a long time but not this particular model a 6500CT Chrome Rocket, Apart from a little boat rash the reel is in excellent nick however I can't seem to get her going right as I think she should cast. Could anyone on here with experience with this particular reel sort me out, I assume the oil is gunk after such a long time but from what little info I can find it is without a mag so what I think what I believe is the tension knob is wrong. Also how different of a reel is it to other ABU's i.e. how do I correctly set one up with a rod, what do you guys have them cast with weight wise and rod length? Kind Regards, George
  22. Hi guys, greetings from Australia It seems like most people that own Morrums collect them and don't take them out often but out of the members that do, does anyone have any product info of what the bigger 7700 and 6600 were designed to do? I have a mate that I recently purchased a small 3600 Morrum off of and am negotiating on his Suveran, he wasn't going to originally get rid of them but I promised I would fish with them so now he has offered me access the rest of his Morrums. Thing is if its a freshwater only reel then its complete overkill for anything round here I know of, I would love to throw it on a boat rig for when I get the chance to go out because then I could actually use it; but it seems the consensus belief that the bearings are too exposed and will suffer from corrosion quick? Any one have first hand experience for or against this tale I would love to hear from you. Kind regards, G
