Two questions.
First, @JimP remarked that an earlier 6.8 mm was basically unmasked as a design fraud by an FBI lab that cut up a bullet, or something like that. He didn't expand on that. Does anyone know the back story of the 6.8 mm in question?
Second, the Army's new cartridge in 6.8 (the rifle is now re-designated the M-7, I think) is a bimetallic round with a nickle steel base and a brass case. The Army wants a round with more range and penetration of armor then it apparently feels is plausible with the 5.56.
Any cartridge that the military adopts will immediately draw enthusiasm from the civilian community. Is anyone known to be developing a new rifle for civilian use with this new cartridge? Just curious.
