  1. It's a 2 piece 11foot Called the "bulldog" If anyone has any information on it I will greatly appreciate it Thank you
  2. Recently I broke a 1-6 11' ODM genesis I built, it was a great rod but I'm looking for better and the unimpressive 1.5 year lifespan left a bitter taste in my mouth with ODM. I'm strongly considering a CTS vapor trail but I'd like to hear how it stacks up against other top brands. The durability of a Lamiglas is also appealing but I've never liked the floppier action they have. Anyone experienced with these brands have any advice?
  3. I got some good insight on this forum before so now I have another question. I bought a Daiwa BG 2500 based in insight I got from here, now I'm deciding on which rod to get for it. I went to Sportsman Warehouse where I live and looked at a lot of rods, especially the St Croix Premier, Doybins Sierra, Halo HFX, and another rod I can't recall. The sales guy put those rods out for me to see because he felt they were the best in the $150 region I was looking at, he then did something I've never seen done before, he had me hold the rods like I would fishing, and then arched the tip just a bit and placed them on his voice box on his throat and talked, supposedly I was supposed to feel his voice vibrating through the rod but the only one I could feel that happening was with the Halo, which sort of surprised the sales guy but he said my hands may not be as sensitive as other people's hands, but because I could feel the vibration I was pretty much sold on the Halo. The Halo has that 4 finger thing where the blank of the rod is exposed by where you handle it when fishing, and that could be the reason I felt the vibration since it didn't have to travel through the blank and into the foam or cork handle in order for me to feel it, so that could be the selling point for me if my hands are not as sensitive as others. Due to that test, and a lot of internet reading I kind of really like the Halo, however, on another forum they were saying that the Daiwa Tatula might be a better rod over the Halo, but I have no way to test it for that strange vibration test that I did. I do mostly freshwater inland lakes fishing up in northern Indiana, I may go to other places but that is where I live thus that is where I fish the most. I know people have their favorite rods, and reels too, I get that. So, do you guys have any insight on those two rods?
  4. Star VPR Surf vs. TFO Tactical Surf. Looking at the 10’6” MH 2-6oz in both, as well as the 9’ and 11’ sizes possibly. For anyone who has tried either or both of these brand rods, which do you prefer and why? Are they comparable? They VPR is about $40 more expensive. I need 2-3 new setups for next year (one lighter and one heavier for canal and surf, and maybe one for jettys and piers). I can’t decide between Star or TFO. Going to be using this in Cape Cod Canal, NY, NJ, and VA surf, as well as FL surf, and possibly FL and NJ jetty’s. I travel a lot to find fish lol. Considering pairing with some Vissers. Thanks in advance for any advice!
  5. Hey guys, wondering what are your thoughts on the carbon surf series from lamiglas.

  7. Hi, I was wondering the difference in the jigging world nexus, hybrid, and night ranger rods, what kind of action do they all have, what species are they good for, and how were they at casting. I’m looking at the 7ft mh models 1-4oz, I’ll be using it for tog fluke and bass. so if anyone has any experience please let me know.
  8. I am looking for some Seeker Blue lightning factory (casting/conventional only) or blanks, 8' and over. I'm located in NYC but can drive a reasonable distance if the rod and price is right. Let me know what you've got!
  9. Looking for a slightly lighter set up than my SaltX 6000 and 10'6" Lamiglas to fish the North Shore of Long Island. Bought my heavier setup last year and I'm really happy with it but looking for something lighter that can still pull in nice holdover stripers! Also, not trying to break the bank... Any rec's on rods, reels, # test line I can use, and anything else on good spring lures/plugs/bait would be appreciated!
  10. Hi All, I have looked at expanding my tackle universe to include a conventional casting outfit, and am looking at a reel like the Calcutta 200D (actually the 201D, because I run that way.) I hope to use it for not too heavy plugging, bucktailing, jigging Avas and maybe fluking. Does anyone have a rod they'd pair with a reel like this? Given a choice I'd opt for something not too pricey. The reel alone will be the most expensive single piece of gear I've ever bought that I couldn't sit in. Thanks! (This is my first post here. I'm a Striper Surf refugee.)

  13. I am just beginning to get into surf fishing and I’m looking to purchase a rod and a reel. Any suggestions on an affordable set up for a rod, reel, line and etc.? What brands are best for rod and reels? Looking to spend less than $200 for everything. Thanks!
  14. Hello! I’m looking to learn more about surf fishing. I have some experience with surf fishing where I would tag along with a friend of mine when he sets out to fish at the beach out on Long Island, NY. Although I have a pretty good sense on casting out and reeling in, I know that there is much more to fishing than just casting and reeling. I am seeking for more knowledge when it comes to rods, reels, lines, lures and etc. Any advice, tips, techniques and guidance for a beginner wanting to become good at surf fishing is appreciated.

  18. Ok I need guidance, just moved to Long Island and love fishing. I never realized how much goes into the sport. I have a lot to learn. The last two seasons i’ve Been surf fishing but with not much luck( yes, i’m a bait soaker). I have tried some lures ( buck tails, diamond jig, spoons) out a few times but since I didn’t know what I was doing I kinda gave up. I have yet to catch a fish on a lure. I would like to be able to learn the lures and someday catch a damn fish. I have been to the trusty YouTube watched a few videos in hopes that things would change this year. Watched vids on how to tie different rigs, on how to read the beach which I still don’t know if I’m doing right. My gear so far: 10’ st croix mojo surf paired with penn battle 6000 12’ penn rod with penn fierce 2 live liner 8000 the 6000 has 40lb braid I believe the 8000 has 50lbs mono i think both rods are medium to heavy what the hell do I need to do other than “ get out and fish more”? More YouTube I guess any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
  19. I just jumped on the baitcasting bandwagon. I ordered a LEXA HD 400 7.1:1. I haven't used a baitcaster in a looong time, but WTH, right? I do most of my fishing on jetties, almost never use bait and most stuff I throw is under 3oz. like everyone else. I'm looking for a plugging/BT/Tins rod under $200 to learn with that will be able to get distance and handle the load. Has to be 2 piece. Has to be under $200. Is anyone plugging and distance casting with these reels? Also, what pound test.should I be spooling the reel with, I'm also getting a boat rod to maybe fish for tuna.
  20. Hello all! Thanks in advance for the help. I came upon what I believe is a handmade surfcasting rod, but I cant find any information on the maker. It appears to be well made. The maker is Beach and Bay Tackle, Inc. It has a 617 area code, but when I call the number on the rod, it is out of service. And I can't find any business info on the internet. Has anyone heard of this maker, or know the value? It is a 10' rod.
  21. I'm thinking to buy for fishing bass spinning MajorCraft, series SKYROAD - SKR-1062 PLG or series N-ONE - NSS-1062 PLG. Anybody own?I would like to hear your feedback.
  22. So I fish a 10'6" legend 1-6oz and an avid 8' 3/4-3. I feel like the 10'6" has too much backbone for daily fishing.. I like it, but not in love with it. I'm in search for a 9'6" rod up to 4oz. My buddy swears by ODM Frontier 9'6", i'm curious what others would chose... I was leading towards tsunami Airwave Elite.. Bad ****** for the money, but I'm open to any.. It's coming into show season in the next two months so the purchase will be made then. Thanks in advance..
  23. I may re-wrap this old rod. When it was given to me it had an old Punch reel on it. It is marked "Ace List Price $24.00" .
  24. Hello folks, This may be an odd question and not one that I had expected to be asking. My brother was the angler in the family, and an avid one at that. Sadly, he passed away unexpectedly this summer and I'm now face with selling many of his belongs, much of which is outdoor gear, fishing rods and tackle etc. The extent of my fishing knowledge extends to what Dennis taught me. I have 5 rods and a couple of reels I need some advice on. I have 3 new Sage rods, in 2 St. Croix rods all in tubes and the St. Croix in Travel Tubes, that I I'd like to sell and donate the funds to charity in his name but have no idea what to ask for these rods. Sage rods are: 2 each Model XP 490-4 Graphite IIIe Line 4 9' 0" ft. 1 each Model XP 990-4 Graphite IIIe Line 9 9' 0" ft. 1 St. Croix TideMaster Model TS70MF3 (All New and have been in storage for some time.) 1 St. Croix Ben Doer Surf System SS8m 2pc Graphite Rod with a PENN SS 055 reel on this. (Used by in excellent condition rod and reel w/tube). I apologize for the long message but wanted to give as much information as possible and hope that someone can do the same. Thanks in advance for any help. Maybe I'll keep one for myself and learn how to surf fish in Dennis' honor. Thanks all.
