  4. I got a few high end conventional rods that I have never seen the water. Tbh I have never even tried using any before. Because I have heard it's alot harder to use. But last night I met an old timer at FINS who suggested I give it a try. To say the least the guy seemed to be able to cast as far as I could , but with much better accuracy. Again this will be my first attempt at using a non spinning reel. So I'm just looking for something to get started with. That is also easy to use. Thanks gents

  8. I want to trade my Penn International 975LD. I AM OPEN TO A LOT OF THINGS. I like Vintage Lures, Heddon, Chub, etc. I'm really after a vintage(or newer) 11'-14' surf rod. Spinning preferred but if not conventional will work. I need it in great shape so I dont have to do anything to it. I plan to use a 700 704z 706z on it, or a 140 Squidder if conventional. Or NIB or excellent with box Penn Levelmatics. Any old Penns with boxes.... basically vintage Penn stuff.... Im also open to multiple item trades, so if you have a few older penns (with or with out boxes) we can still make a deal.
  9. I am getting ready to move and have decided to slowly move some of my gear that I don't have a use for! Here I have 2 new in box reels from Penn. I will upload pictures for them in a bit once I step away from my computer. The first one is a Penn 420 SSG that has never been taken out of the box except to look at it. It has never been fished and is just collecting dust in my basement. Its a perfect light tackle reel. Asking $55 shipped or $45 local pickup. (Live in Bristol and can travel just about anywhere in southern RI) The second reel is a Penn 4500 SS that also has never been fished. It also comes with with the original box and paperwork as well. Asking $85 shipped or $75 picked up. This reel was Made in the USA and comes stamped with that under the reel seat and the box reflects that as well. Both reels are mechanically and cosmetically 10/10, I just have no use for them and they have been sitting on a shelf for the past 5+ years! Let me know if there are any questions you need answered! Thanks guys
  10. I have in my possession a US Made Penn 36O NIB with papers. My dilemma is what rod should I pair this up with? My thinking right now is to have her as a semi hybrid...light surf, backwater, bays, ICWW, freshwater bass and maybe some cats. I have done so much reading on the subject I now need experienced input from people who have or had this reel on their own sticks. remember hybrid rod Thinking 7-7’6. -8’6” St.croix Avid inshore lamigals black Fenwick Elite Tech Opinions, experiences?
  11. Hi everyone, Don't know how many of you checked out the advertised new Penn Battle III reels on J&H's website, but looks like they will have sizes ranging from 1K to 10K including 3 models with high speed reels (4K, 6K and 8K). Seems to still feature all metal body and HT-100 drag, looks like it's 5+1 sealed bearings and the newest feature their CNC gears, probably aluminum main gear from 1k to 5k and all brass from 6k and up. Apart from the high speed versions, looks like a blend on Battle II and Clash first gen....? I now understand why they dropped the 6k and 8k for the second generation of the Clash. The 6k and 8k Clash from gen 1, were all metal (unlike the 5k and below that featured a RR30 rotor?) and featured all brass CNC gearing, BUT they also had 8+1 sealed bearings, light handle with comfy EVA power knob, some sealing under the drag and above et AR clutch AND more importantly: Leveline slow oscillation which is one the Clash first gen best features. So yes, they were better than what is the new Battle III, but they were also more expensive than the advertised MSRP for the new Battle. Since this Battle launch coincides with the liquidation prices of the Clash 1, why preorder a Battle 3? I mean The 8k Clash 1 is on sale at around 150$ and the new Battle III 8k is 145$ I'll let this sink in... I don't know, I'd still get a Clash 1 first gen over a Battle 3, for the 6k and 8k sizes if you want or need a metal rotor.

  13. Good Morning! I have a new to me 145 squidder and the sideplate is a bear to twist on and off. Any suggestions on how to get this so I don't have to use a strap wrench to remove/replace the side plate? I am going to do a full tear-down/overhaul/regrease, but I've never had on that is so bloody tight! Many thanks!
  14. Hello all, looking to purchase a new reel for my 10 foot Lamiglas surfrod. I will predominantly use it off the beach. Looking at either a Penn Spinfisher Longcast (5500 or 6500), Regular Spinfisher (5500 or 6500) or a Slammer III (5500 or 6500). Thoughts?

  17. Hey guys, So I went to use a Penn Battle 2 I’ve been using from last few years after it sat this winter and when I went to throw a lure I noticed I’m getting the bail opening/closing on its own when I throwing lures or put any momentum on the reel. Then today I’m sitting here and when I stop it hard from a fast turn, you can hear it almost release the bail and the bail re-engage, it’s weird. I haven't had any issues with this reel and I’ve maintained the internals pretty well, but I’ve never done anything to or for the bail-arm or anything around there. So I’ve attached the video would love to hear anyone’s thoughts why this is happening. Thanks guys! IMG_2483.MOV

  22. Hey I am mostly a trout fly fisher in VT but will have to go to Hyannis for work for a few months this year so I want to try some surf casting while I’m there. So recently this Penn Pursuit II 6000 reel fell into my lap, and I know it’s not a hi end reel, but it feels rock solid and it looks mint unused. spool drag is well-lubed, and the gearbox is coated in blue grease that looks new. Loaded with what appears to be a new 50lb powerline braid. so I brought it in to bass pro in NH to try it on some rods and walked out with a 12’ bigwater ugly stik Heavy rod. It felt like a good balance setup, but I don’t really know much about surf casting and I’ve been searching the forum trying to answer my question of basically “is this a good rod?” And “is this a good reel size, with the right line, for this rod?” ive seen mixed reviews for the rod but most of the bad ones seem to do with damage during shipping, or the fact that some people forget it’s fiberglass or Chinese until after they bought it pics show the reel, gear box opened, the rod rating, and the balance point when the reel is on the seat, when I hold the rod with one finger Searching Around I’ve seen the pursuit Ii 6000 was sold paired with an 8’ MH rod as a combo, but I want to rip long bombs with weight and bait and be able to reel in whatever bites. just trying to get my feet wet and I don’t have much of a bank to break. I still have the reciept for the rod, so if it’s not a good choice I can return it for something else. I was looking at a few other options the penn Carnage II 12’ reel but it was 4x more $$ than the ugly and also I wasn’t sure if it was meant for a spinning reel bc the guides were so small and close to the blank. What rod would you get if you had this reel?? Also any tips on prepping the reel before my first time using it would be great. I’ve seen some people say to pack the box full of grease and I know there are prob tougher drag washers available to replace the oiled felt, but it seems pretty strong as-is. Thx for any help

Hello fellow anglers Im new to forum as a member but have been following along for years now, my question is does anyone know where I can find the schematic for the fth 2 15sd?
