  1. After fishing both the stock GSB10MS (1 piece) and GSB101MS (2 piece) the past few years I'm looking to order a 1 piece blank for a custom rod. My local rod builder said the quality of GSBs has gone downhill in recent years and that I should check ODM and Century. Century intrigues me the most but it seems all of their blanks are 2 piece. ODM has 2 options for 1 piece blanks - the Evolution & Nex1. The rod will be paired with a VSX200, 1-5oz weight range is ideal, and durability is key as it will face abuse on the rocks. I love the parabolic bend on the GSB so am looking for a similar taper. Any and all suggestions are appreciated!
  2. I have 3, factory new Ron Arra blanks that are ready for a new home. I also have brand new, fuji KR-concept layouts that are matched perfectly for building each. I had planned to build these for myself but haven't gotten to them. (1) XRA 1205-2 for $200 Guide layout: BCMNAT HD top 08(09) - 3.6mm tube, BCKWFG 20, BCLKWFG 12, BCLKWFG 10, and BCLKWFG 8 runners x3 - all for $60 (2) XRA 1383-2 for $275 - each (2) Guide layout(s): BCMNAT HD top 08(7.5) - 3.0mm tube, BCKWFG 25, BCKWFG 16, BCLKWFG 10, and BCLKWFG 8 runners x7 - $80 each layout Would prefer local meetup near Columbia, MD or Lewes, DE. Would be willing to take $750 for everything. thanks for looking
  3. For sale is a Daiwa Ballistic 35-405B surf rod blank. Brand new with tags. Includes counter weights and carrying bag. Decided I don't need to build another surf rod to add to my collection. Rod rated 4-12oz. 3 piece is very easy to transport. Beautiful blank on a sunny day. $290 shipped contiguous USA. Here are some pics of another Daiwa Ballistic I built to inspire the rod builders out there.
  4. I have a partially built Daiwa Ballistic 35-405B blank for sale. It has an aluminum Alps reel seat installed ($40 reel seat) and shrink wrap grip. Textured grip like X-flock without the X pattern. You can cut it off if you wanted to install X-flock instead. It's setup for spinning. I taped on some guides and did a few test casts otherwise it's like new. Beautiful blank and cast great. I just have one too many rods therefore want to sell this for someone to finish and fish. Reel seat distance is 29.5". It's a 13'3" rod and I've found this to be a good reel seat distance. Rod rated 4-12oz. Includes carrying bag pictured. $300 shipped contiguous USA. $280 pickup Dulles, VA.
  5. Looking for a GSB or SSU 1442mh blank if anyone still has one laying around. Would also be interested in a finished rod as well as long as it's conventional. Located in MA
  6. I have one of these Daiwa Ballistic Rod Blanks (model number is SA-BS 33-405 B) and decided sell it since I never got around to building it... I was told this is the "better" early version that was made in Thailand. Still in the original plastic packaging but bag has been opened. "These rods are great because they are in 3 pieces but when you put them together they feel like one piece." On most websites these are listed for $350+ each. Looking to sell this for $250 including shipping, insurance and tracking.
  7. want to trade for a 10'6" or 11' rod or blank 3/4 to 4 oz
  8. Hello Everyone. Essentially, I am hoping to build "one rod to rule them all" to fish both the area surrounding my new address in Washington, and to be somewhat practical for fishing back here in Rhode Island. In order to carry it on flights, the rod will have to be built off a travel blank, 3 pieces and no longer than 8 ft. The weight rating will will have to be roughly 3/8 to 1 1/2 oz to handle small steelhead floats, spinners, medium SP Minnows, and 1.5 oz bucktails. Most guys out in Washington seem to use their steelhead rods for fishing species like rock fish and surf perch, and some even use them for ling cod. I'm hoping to build a rod that bridges the gap between a pure Steelhead float rod and a lighter surf rod you might find in a RI surfcaster's arsenal. That means I'll also need a blank with a moderate responsive backbone and a quick taper to a soft tip. Does a blank like this even exist? Has anyone built on a blank like this before? Suggestions are much appreciated. Preferred Blank Specs: Length: 8 ft Lure weight: 3/8 oz-1.5 oz Pieces: 3 Action: medium/fast Application: (Shore Fishing) Steelhead,Salmon, Lingcod, Cabezon, Halibut, Rockfish, Greenling, Surf Perch, Stripers, Bluefish, Tog, Albies, Bonito, my cousins left ear. Other Notes: -Pairing with Stradic 4k or Gosa 5k. Maybe a VR 50 or VSX 100 bailed if I ever get back to RI. -Most likely building With BKWAG stripper and first reduction guide followed by single foot alconites. It's also worth mentioning the nearest population of ocean dwelling stripers resides about a six hour drive south of my new address, so the rod will come along to help investigate at some point.
  9. Newbie here. Started fishing about 4 years ago, aimlessly. Started understand species and species specific gear this year. I'm pretty happy with my fluke set ups, I'm looking to put together a tog set up with a saltiga 15. Will be fishing long island sound as well as montauk. Will at time need to use sinkers up to 16oz to hold bottom. I haven't done any striper fishing and if I do it might be once or twice this fall (probably using live eels), so my aim is a tog set up that may allow some striper fishing as well. I have a st croix premier musky 7'H 40-80lb. It's nice and light with plenty of strength. I would just rather put together a custom rod, shrink wrap handles, fuji guides, rod color, lightweight, etc... I'm looking at the st croix 2M70MHF as well as the blank from the rod I have. I also saw a custom Calstar GF700-M yesterday that was beautiful (would probably consider the 700-MH). I've also been told about the lamiglas CGBT861MH from the tri flex 7240 I believe. And I've seen some posts on the Seeker Hercules. I know the best way to go about this is to really hold and pull on each rod but there aren't too many places that have each blank in stock. It's a lot of info to take in. Need some advice on which is the best choice based on those parameters. Thanks
  10. Hello everyone, Last year a bought a Star Rod Stellar SG90IS. Around that time one of the swanky exclusive beach clubs in my area decided to push a bunch of sand right up to the adjacent groin that separates their beach and the public beach, this effectively created covered crevices (booby traps) between the rocks. So while i was walking on the sand next to the rocks my foot plunged through the sand into one of these covered crevices resulting in a nasty leg scrap, a dislocated pinky and worst of all I broke the top piece of my brand new rod. I tried contacting Star Rods to see if i could purchase a replacement top piece since the butt piece is perfectly fine. Star Rods was gracious enough to ignore my communications, awesome customer service! Since I have a practically brand new butt section I wanted to try and build a new top piece on my own. I am new to rod building so I thought this project would be the perfect way for me to get started. Additionally I think it will be fun to experiment with rod pieces to use for different applications. I wanted to see if anyone could offer some advice about how I should go about picking a blank to make the top piece from. I understand that the rod relatively inexpensive and it might make more sense financially to just replace the entire rod but it would really bother me to just throw away the butt section. Thanks in advance for any advice!
  11. I have decided to go another direction and am putting up for sale a century slingshot ss1145 blank. It is brand new never taken out of the tube or bag. This is the century slingshot 9'6" 2 piece rod rated for 3/4-3oz. Let me know if have any questions or need any pictures. Asking $250 shipped.
  12. Hey guys, I have a baby on the way and I have too many blanks that are sitting and probably won't get built... and I need the extra cash for the baby. Brand new, still in the bag SS1265 blank. 10'6" rated 1-3.5. Would love to build it, but I just don't have the time or money. Looking for $250 picked up in the greater Boston to southern NH area or shipped on the buyer. I believe these are going for $313 online. Thanks.
  13. I have two of these Daiwa Saltiga Ballistic Rod Blanks and decided sell them instead of having them Custom built. These are the good ones made in Thailand I believe. The model number is SABS-33-405B. These are still in the original plastic packaging. These rods are great because they are in 3 pieces but when you put them together they feel like one piece. On most websites these are listed for $350+ each. Looking to sell these for for $240 each including shipping, insurance and tracking or $450 shipped for the pair including shipping, insurance and tracking.
