I've been here for the last week and have seen bait several times.

I am really plug/bucktail type myself, but have done bait. I rather fish with artificial hands down over bait.

When I was younger I would fish in lousy weather conditions and was a good caster. My old friend use to call me Storm.

For a smaller spool like the P525Mag I like 15 # big game green and 20# on something like a Abu 7500 reel.

You should practice the fishing pendulum or the hatteras cast that will increase your distance. The later one is not a hard cast at all .

I like Tidaltals bucktails and the parrakeetz style myself.

I had no problem casting out there with the Lami stick and I did not have to wade out at all:) I was doing fine with the 15# pound and a shock leader.

Most of my catch was pups with a few croakers and bluefish in the mix.
