  1. Small little update if anyone is interested. Took my dad to bass pro yesterday to get some braided line. He really liked the vanford so it looks like that’s what I’ll be getting him. Thank you everyone for helping narrow down the selection!
  2. Thought I’d let everyone know what I’m thinking as of now, so the Stradic 3000, vanford 3000, maybe a spheros 3000, daiwa bg or a Penn slammer are looking like my best options right now. I got a used vs from this site a bit ago and my dad wasn’t as big of a fan of it because it wasn’t a silky smooth as he’s used to, also a bit heavy but it is still our shared surf reel. I think I will take my dad to a bass pro or something like that “just to get some lures” and we can see which he thinks feels better in hand. I’ll keep people updated.
  3. That’s incredible! Good on you and your brothers. I hope to follow suite but that may be in good time.
  4. It really is! I’m hearing a lot about the stradic, seems to be the best all around option. Regarding the spheros I actually got him and myself a 6000 a bit ago for bigger game fish. Mainly for the occasional boat fishing though as it did wear out his shoulder. But he loves the smoothness of it. Might actually try to sell mine since I don’t really need it to fund a better reel for him. Decisions decisions. Thank you for your insight
  5. Thank you for those kind words it means a lot. They deserve the world but for now small gifts like these to show appreciation should suffice.
  6. Thank you for saying that, I sure hope so. He’s the whole reason I love this, started from catching bluegills for a family fish fry to now trying to get inshore slams down south. He made it happen, with work and life all around him he made time to take my overly eager self fishing and get me gear when I needed it. Now me being out of college and working I have no freaking clue how he managed it, though my wonderful mom certainly helped (don’t worry she is going to get an equally nice present as well). I’m impressed thankful and so much more for my dad, So it’s about time I get him something nice too. Thank you again for your message.
  7. I wish I could afford that for him right now. In my experience with van staals they are built like tanks, but kinda weigh like tanks too.
  8. I don’t know if weight is that important but he loves being on the water and I don’t want him to injure himself again. I am just trying to see if there is a lightweight reel that could benefit him in this regard. I’ll definitely check that out though thank you!
  9. They look like nice workhorse reel, a little pricey but might have to try and push it. Have you used it in comparison of shimanos and daiwa?
  10. As always thank you for your input, definitely leaning towards a stradic, spheros or BG. They certainly will be maintenanced if any dunking occurs. Definitely need to see which is lighter for the sake of his casting shoulder.
  11. That 140 - 200 range would be preferred, student loans have me hurting right now. Thanks for your input!
  12. Hello everyone - as the title suggests I’m looking for a lightweight salt ready spinning reel for my dad. He hurt his shoulder a bit ago so casting all day as you can imagine isn’t as fun as it used to be. We recently got into Wade fishing in St. Petersburg (shoutout to @aquaholik for the tips and amazing help last year) and would love some dedicated gear for that application. Would love something a little on the more hardy size as my dad doesn’t clean his gear too often but I’m trying to make a habit of it. Something that can handle some nice inshore fish down south, reds snook. Maybe even use it for some schoolies up here in mass. Either way would love some suggestions on any reels that come to mind. Thanks for taking a look at the post, -Ben
  13. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. For now I’m gonna see if I can get a Tranx 500 for not too much and see if I can handle it and the righty retrieve.
  14. As the title suggests looking for a Tranx 500. Thanks
  15. Damn that’s tough, can’t really do righty bad wrist from someone hitting me on my skateboard. But thanks for letting me know.
  16. Hello everyone I really want a Tranx 500 to be my powerhouse reel, but I fish lefty. Any alternatives for a lefty reel if similar caliber?
  17. As the title says looking for a shimano tranx 151, or any other nice wading reels. Zillions, other shimano etc. thanks
  18. Hey everyone been a bit since I last posted, but wondering if anyone has any experience or other recommendations for a saltwater baitcaster. Went Wade fishing awhile back for trout and reds but missed using a baitcaster. Used my vs but quite heavy and I’m not as accurate with a spinning reel. Have been looking at Bates fishing reels recently but there so little reviews in them for the price they’re asking for. The 13 fishing tx2 looks neat might try scooping one up in eBay for cheap. Any info on those reels would be appreciated as well. Regardless I’d love anyone’s input in a nice saltwater baitcaster that can handle the salt. Wouldn’t mind one with a clicking drag because ima sucker for hearing reds go on long runs.
