I drive by the Seekonk River and Upper Bay every weekday morning. For about the past three weeks, I've been witnessing hundreds of terns/gulls circling bait. Location varies based upon tide and temperature, but they have been there every day.
I'm trying to figure out what kind of bait they're on. I think it's a bit early for herring. Based upon the time of year, my guess is Smelt. Timing also makes sense as Smelt are night spawners and return to deeper water at sunrise. Though, I thought smelt numbers were low in the bay. Any ideas?
