Suggest me a $100 1 piece spinning rod for inshore
Rick burke replied to Stopsign32v's topic in Main Forum
St croix premier 7’ I think it about $130 though but good rod for the price and if you break it they are good with replacing under warranty. -
I have heard many Mixed reviews on the VR 50 but I went out and bought one anyway and I love the reel ,I have caught some nice size fish on it and still works brand new and never had any issues have owned it now for about a year

My go to plug is either green head bunker glider ( slow sink ) I think it’s 5in / or a good old white and red mag darter
-
Just don’t load those rods up to much. My buddy had one and maxed it out and thing blew up in his had

Have caught plenty of big bass but have never been tuna fishing… I hear they are catching them extremely close now .. might be perfect time to try it out . How far out are they hitting

I have heard nothing but great things about black hole surf rods but have never personally used one

I have the 30 lb boga and I use for everything, and I beat it up and still works like new.. I’ve had all the cheap ones and usually they end up locking up or braking in the first year or two
-
I have mine vsx 200 paired with 10’ 6” odm frontier x and I love it one of my favorite rods… but also have same on 10’ 6” st croix legend surf and that is for sure my go to

Cheap small rapala scissors always work good and cheap enough to get a few to throw in all your boxes.. I hate buying expensive braid scissors when they usually just rust up and have to get new anyway
-
I tried to use 25lb clips a few times and they end up just being to small, just gotta try a few different cause also some other brands have the offset clip end to make easier for plug change
-
I have really only seen a hand full of hook sharpeners and only tried one and was horrible so will definitely be trying some of the one that were talked about thank you everyone
-
I only go with backing on my bigger reels ( vsx 200 and bigger) and still only put on like 45 yards , most of time a nice peice of electric tape works great

Fish the shore in nj almost everday and the fluke bite definitely slows down at night but they are there for sure, but most time when I’m fishing at night I always get dog fish
-
I bought the ODM Genesis few months ago and was built by grumpys in seaside nj and for sure one of my favorite rods..
-
I owned both rods in 8ft and I would prefer the genesis, especially with buck tails and some plugs because it has a lot better load up on it

Looking to see what everyone is suggesting for best shore fluke setup .. I’ve always fluked from a boat my whole life and now figured I’d get into more shore fluke. I use 1/2 oz - 1oz ball jig with no hair depending on wind, current , and tide and I usually do not use a teaser .( bait I use is either Kellys or gulp / pink shine , nuke chicken) Not having as good of luck from shore with same setup.
