  1. Lead can certainly be melted and processed safely. That said, unless you are planning to go into high-volume production, I would agree with others that the view probably isn’t worth the climb. If you’re an average consumer, the savings from DIY will quickly be eaten up by the cost of the processing and safety equipment, improved ventilation, etc.
  2. TDRs are great with planer boards and actually shown as ‘Downrigger/Planer Board’ rods. I use the 7’ rods to troll off the back of my boat in the prop wash. In this application, the top 1-2’ of the rod is actually in the water and I’m trolling 7-8” plugs. I pair them with Shimano Tekota Linecounter reels. Never had one fail.
  3. I’ve caught muskies up to 45” on a TDR … no problem. It’s got more than enough backbone.
  4. The TDR comes in 7’ as a 1-piece rod and also 8’ as a 2-piece.
  5. Look at the Shimano TDR. I’ve used them for years trolling for muskies and they’re virtually bullet proof. Cost about $30!
  6. +1 on the Patagonia. I have Simms G3 and Patagonia. I find the Patagonia fabric (H2No I believe) to be more flexible and much lighter than the Simms. Both are high quality, but I wear the Patagonias more. Patagonia has superb customer service.
  7. I have an opportunity to get a Seage at a very reasonable price from a buddy. He’s offering either a 9’ M or a 10’6” ML. I’d probably be using it to throw lightish (2-3 ounce max) plugs on open beaches in various locations along the Atlantic coast. Any thoughts from those that have fished these rods would be most appreciated. Thanks.
  8. Amen brother and good on ‘your boy’ for stepping up. All of us need a hand up every now and then. I try to live each day with the simple credo of ‘there but for the grace of God go I.’ A simple act of kindness goes a LONG WAY and is just what the world needs these days.
  9. Excellent!! I’ve never had a bad day on the water with my son. He’s 28 now, but we still get to fish together frequently. He’ll be here at the lake (in western NY) for a week starting Friday. We’ll fish every day.
  10. I don’t think there is a ‘right’ number of named storms and I don’t think any climatologist would cite a specific number. It’s following trends and averages and those trends are obviously increasing and increasing at an accelerating rate. The recorded data goes back about 150 years, so the data is reliable. Obviously our data collection has improved in modern times and will continue to improve moving forward. And @EBHarvey is correct, improvements in detection technology have resulted in more named storms. There are consensus criteria for categorizing tropical depressions, etc. It’s not random.
  11. I own 30+ St. Croix rods for all species. They make the best muskie rods and that’s my primary target species in the summer. They use quality components - Fuji guides and great cork. If needed, they simply have unmatched customer service. Several of my rods are 25 years old or older and going strong.
  12. I guess I didn’t realize this was moved to PG or what PG was. Now I know and I will respectfully leave the discussion. There’s no interest here in actually having a civil discourse.
  13. It’s not a ‘cult’ as you suggest while trying to demean a science-based fact. I don’t know of any reputable scientist who is suggesting that we must eliminate fossil fuels in 12 years. That’s not credible or possible. And any discussion on a Covid-related opinion is not relevant to this thread or discussion. But, no, I don’t believe that global economies conspired to unleash a global pandemic. I won’t discuss that further.
  14. The kind of man who respects other people and doesn’t make unfounded and unrelated statements.
  15. And they are building nuclear plants at a (relatively) breakneck pace! https://www.world-nuclear.org/information-library/country-profiles/countries-a-f/china-nuclear-power.aspx
