  1. Was the top threads. IMG_2395.MOV
  2. I did this tiger and I'm hoping it's my top threads that need more burnishing. I seem to have more stripes than waves/Lava lamp look.. . I can redo it if it's my top threads. Black & White on bottom 2 coats of epoxy. 3 Threads on top wrapped in the opposite direction.. All Size A
  3. Up till now my spinners have been Mud hole products. I'd like to build friend a nicer rod for Snook / Redfish and able to sling greenies and shrimp. Is there a big difference ( $100+) between Geek rods and St Croix blanks. I know I want a 7,6 rod /fast action /mH power. Usually pulling them out of the mangroves. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.
  4. I have overcoated before with no issues.
  5. Can't beat that. Thanks. Love your fly tying station.
  6. May I ask which kind you use? I like the idea where you’re able to adjust distance.
  7. Thanks poop deck. That’s very helpful. No doubt fly tying is just as difficult to see.
  8. So for the crowd that needs help seeing threads what do you use for vision enhancers/magnifiers? Up to now for single threads I have a pair of readers that have worked OK along with my contacts. Been trying to do a tiger wrap and getting all 3 threads (size A) in line is tough on the eyes. I have tried a desk mounted lighted magnifier glass but getting distance correct wasn't working for this. I was thinking a head band type visor, the type jewelers might use. I have more than enough light but I'm no spring chicken so some more help is needed. Curious as to what some others a bit long in the tooth use.
  9. Merry Christmas! So I've done a few simple wraps from a link on FB. " Cross wrap Patterns". But a question I have is how do you tell how many axis points a pattern has? The next one I'm going to try I believe has only 2 but the question came to mind as some of the patterns look very complicated. Here's a pic of the next id like to try.

  11. Hate to say it but immediatly not impressed. Took a heck of alot of effort to get my last build in that rubber hole. 7' spinner . But probably measures 1" maybe 1 1/4.
  12. Does anyone know the height of this thing? Have one coming in and need to make room on the wall by removing some shelves that go to the ceiling. I've searched till it hurts.
  13. Thanks. I use the simple plain brushes from Mud hole " Throw away type". 200RPM is probably alot faster than I have tried. Interesting.
  14. First off I'm a hobbiest and have only built 3 rods so far and working on my 4th. Trying to figure what I might be doing wrong on finishing. My finishes are OK but not as smooth as others. I seem to get a bit of wavy-ness in my finishes. I'm using flex coat high build and putting it on at higher speeds but not so fast as it's slinging the stuff. I pass an alchohol torch lightly underneith for bubbles I then let it dry at 9RPMs. I have tried a couple/three thin coats and a few coats placed on heavier. Just wondering if there's not something else I can try to get it on there better. Please believe I've watched videos till I'm mezmorized.
  15. I'm sure this topic has been beat to death. I need a new wrapper as there's enough wrong with the motors on my PB not to fix. Lightning strike I think. I'm a hobbyist and build maybe 1 rod every 2 months or so. Never in a rush but have a dedicated area. A few questions: I know I can buy PB motors. just wondering if the upgrade to Alps is worth it? Price difference between the 2 , is the Alps upgraded $100 better than PB? Best price on a quick search was $420 delivered. Are Alps and PB tracks interchangeable? Wondering if I can just buy Alps motors and chuck and mount them to the track I already have and save few$? I have tracks, roller guides, tensioners although a tensioner upgrade wouldn't hurt. Thanks in advance.
  16. Been trying to find wiring diagram for pacific bay to wire the wrapper and dryer to the switch. Can't seem to find one. I'm sure it's fairly simple but I'm no electrician. Any help appreciated. Also I think I would like to upgrade the dryer motor from 9 to18 RPMs if possible.
  17. Thanks. Didn't know about this. On it now.
  18. Do they really pump accurately? Right now I'm dipping a syringe into the 8 OZ bottles. I get consistent results but can be messy.
  19. On my first build I had trouble getting the epoxy I wanted for handles ( Cork). USPS problems. So I did some reading and saw many raving about Tite Bond 2. So I bought some from the local hardware store. I'm here to tell ya that stuff took days to set. The handle is tight now but really? Days? Don't think I'll be using that again. I have bought flex bond rod builders epoxy. 30 minute I think. Dries in 2-3 hrs to the touch. A repair I was doing has set up well over night. Was wondering if in a pinch thread wrapping epoxy would adhere cork to rods? Have no intention of building one after another so Id hate to see any of this stuff expire.
  20. Got the seat off with a pr of dikes. Once it was off just ground all the un-needed material away. Thanks all.
  21. Getting the plastic part of the reel seat off is gonna be tough I see.
  22. I didn't explain myself well enough. The seat needs to be replaced. I was wondering what is a common way to do this. I have only built 1 rod. When I did. handle seat and foregrip and winding all went on from the tip. With guides on that can't happen.
  23. Still pretty new to all this. Son-in-law has a broken reel seat on a Falcon rod. He's emotionally attached. So I would like to try and repair this just for the experience. I watched a few vids on using steam to take this apart. But seeing as most everything went on from the tip down. Now with guides on we're not working that way. Do we fill in the void with epoxy? Is it worth it to try and save the handle or is it toast? And if someone would be good enough to steer me in the right direction to repair this I'd appreciate it.
