Thanks everyone. Really helpful. Going through vids and testing to see which is best for me. The tool looks cool as well!

Hello, I am writing to learn how you tie 50lb FC leaders to terminal tackle. I have a tough time cinching my knots down to the point where I feel they are secure. Any vid links appreciated.

190 pp, large font. I read it basically in one sitting because it was interesting. Although generally applicable, written from perspective of Long Island and Northeast fishing, if you are in FL, that might be a consideration. Check out a couple of “Surfcaster’s Journal” vids on YT. Content is similar snd you can decide relevance/interest.

May I ask the brand/model of your rods? I have a Penn Battle II 9’ that I got in a combo. It is a MH, and I feel like it might be too stiff/doesn’t load well for casting. It takes a lot of work to cast out to a sand bar, and I fatigue with this rod. Thanks.

This is a great recommendation. I was looking at this rod for its quality and value.

Has anyone tried trailers like pork rind or fat cow on diamond jig or other metal?

Cape Cod Bay and coastal MA, sometimes North Shore.

This may be true. I will be working on casting technique and testing previous assumptions on the new rod. I want to reduce effort for whatever distance I get for fatigue and wear and tear on joints.

Hello, new to the sport with questions. 1. Experience with bucktail-dressed single hooks on diamond jigs/metals from surf. 2. Anyone fish Carolina rig setups to surf shore trailing soft plastics? Casting into sandy/rocky bottom of bays or near inlets? thanks

I have both 6 and 6.75” SPs, but prefer the larger primarily for casting distance potential, but also fir great fish calling potential from the vibration and displacement. I had also been using the Atomic Striper Swipers with success. That said, because NE wind is often a factor, I will be learning bucktails and diamond jigs this year.

Looking forward to trying my more flexible 9 footer this Spring. Like your icon, will be trying some diamond jigs and other metals. Trying to avoid bluefish, though!

Thank you for your observations and comments. These are very helpful. I have 10 ft MH with a fast tip that I though might be too stiff, as you describe. I will try a shorter, medium rod that still covers my typical range and try the 10’ MH at the Canal.

Yes. The winter is too long...many new lure ideas that I want to try. Got to cut myself off to Neil April!

Thanks for the suggestion of Doc Muller’s’Surfcasting’. I learned a lot and enjoyed reading it. I picked up some Uncle Josh’s Bucktails after reading the book. I didn’t know that had swinging and changeable hooks.
