  1. I did a lot of research on the vanford after your recommendation and liked what was said about it. Funny i didnt see anything about the noise until I actually looked it up after experiencing it myself. I’m just gonna fish it. I dont want to deal with the hassle of sending it back. I own a couple of daiwa reels and they are all silk so owning this first shimano was certainly different. I picked up the zodias to pair with the vanford and am anxious to start fluking.
  2. Did your vanford make a scuffing noise when new ?
  3. Started noticing my vsx200 clicks “knocks” when spool is facing straight up. It doesnt do it when spool is parallel to ground. It also doesnt do it when spool is taken off. I noticed the main shaft clicks when theres downward pressure on it or basically weight from the spool. When spool is off, theres no downward pressure on shaft and theres no click. My vsx150 does not click when spool is on. I did remove the spool and pressed down on the main shaft and it does click the same way. I guess the weight of the smaller spool doesn’t exhibit enough downward pressure. Has anyone run into this? Not sure whether this is an issue or not. FullSizeRender.MOV
  4. Those of you who stayed out on the water during that thunderstorm have balls. Skunked 2nd night in a row but at least bunker were stacked thick tonight. any day now
  5. I’d actually like some just because the shields are easier to remove on the “sealed” bearings. Yes, exactly... my pinion bearings were toast after some montauk wading. I didnt reel underwater or anything but water managed to work its way down the main shaft. The bearings are for a 5500 slammer III . Theyre the same as the ones i have on my Penn Battle II 6000. My slammer was very grindy after this fall season so i decided to service it.. i swapped bearings with the Battle II and grinding wasnt as bad but was still there. I swapped out the ar clutch as well but didnt help. I think some corrosion made its way down to the pinion gear even though i dont see any near the teeth..
  6. If by washer you mean shim then grease won’t affect. If its too tight remove a shim but remove the thinnest one first and see how it feels
  7. My main gear has hardly any wear on it. Ive shimmed my main gear perfectly to where theres hardly any movement in the handle. Basically shimmed just before the bind yet my reel is still very grindy. I replaced all 4 bearings in the reel to no avail.... my reel is only 4 months old. What gives? Pretty disappointed
  8. Tried them out and they fit fine. I wonder how these will effect sealing
  9. I just ordered replacement bearings for my penn slammer III from mystic parts but got shielded bearings instead of the blue sealed bearings that came with the reel originally. Are these the same thing generally or did Mystic send me the wrong bearings ???
  10. Would the AR Clutch and sleeve contribute to roughness? I cleaned the AR clutch with isopropyl alcohol, let it dry, then applied penn oil. I just swapped out the two bearings that go on to the pinion from a battle II that is super smooth and it helped a lot but still feeling some roughness
  11. Pinion would make total sense. The sealing is exceptional everywhere on these things except a little iffy on the main shaft imo. There could have possibly been some saltwater intrusion through the main shaft. Love your videos by the way.
  12. I’m reeling without the spool on the reel trying to remedy this so it is not the roller bearing for sure
  13. Too make sure the bearings arent the issue , I swapped them out with my battle II bearings and the reel still felt the same .. my penn battle ii is super smooth..
  14. I bought a Penn Slammer III back in September and was very excited as it felt very smooth and comfortable in my hands. After 2 and a half months the reel started to feel very rough and geart... I Fished it about twice a week since beginning of September and always rinsed it thoroughly after every outing. I never dunked the reel and it has only taken light splashes. I have a Fierce II, Fierce III, and Battle II as well. Ive used those reels the same way and they have always been very smooth. To investigate the issue with the reel i took it apart and everything looked good inside. I cleaned it and regreased it but it didnt help... i started working with the shims over and over again and it still wouldnt fix the issue ... what gives? Have heard many good things about these reels but I’m very disappointed with it considering the other low end reels i have by penn have worked flawlessly.
