  1. I have a similar rod I paired it with a Daiwa BG4500 (~6000 regular size), and I like the balance even though it's a pretty heavy reel. If you like topwater, the weight of the reel can be an advantage and help to create a consistent oscillation on the rod.
  2. I use only Tactical Anglers clips. This one was 50 lbs (I use 75 lbs for the surf and 125 lbs for the Canal).
  3. And here is my LMB PB in the Charles (on a chatterbait) on 4/30 2020.
  4. Hi everyone, I just wanted to share an exceptional moment for me today. I live in Boston (in the middle of Backbay) and I sometimes fish in the Charles during my lunch break. I usually fish with a 7'3 medium rod and a baitcaster, and catch small LMB. My PB is a ~6 lbs which is very good for the Charles in my opinion. I also target Stripers from the shore and on a friend's boat at least two days per week (Boston Bay, Cape, Canal, RI) from May to October. Last year..no keeper. Today, it was nice outside and the wind was low so I decided to go fishing around noon. I grabbed my inshore travel setup with the intention of testing new lures that I bought recently, and that I'd like to use down in Florida in two weeks. Early in the season in the Charles, I usually fish a deeper spot (~30 feet), according to depth data that I found online. Sometimes, I lose lures at that spot and I thought the same thing again today when my Dartspin was blocked...but it started moving, or should I say running... and I finally heard the wonderful sound of my drag for the first time this season. I thought I broke my LMB PB but I couldn't believe what I saw after a fantastic fight... I put many hours on the Charles during lunch breaks for the past three years. It is crazy to think that today, I grabbed my inshore setup to test some lures, and secured this fish on the bank. She went back in of course! I know that Stripers have been caught in the Charles but it's a pretty rare thing, in my opinion, especially of that size and that early in the season. The beauty of fishing is that every cast counts and sometimes, we get great surprises! Rod: Glenn Chatfield Custom 7 foot travel rod 1/4oz - 1oz Reel: Shimano Stradic 3000 XGFL Line: 20 lbs Powerpro Superslick V2 black Leader: Yo-Zuri 20 lbs Fluorocarbon Pink (6 feet, tied with FJ knot) Clip: TA 50 lbs & Uni knot Lure: Hyperlastics Dartspin 5 inches
  5. @MD_Fish_X Thanks for posting this, very useful. I saw the video on youtube as well. I was about to buy a VSX150 but cannot deal with a 6lb drag for sure. Did you solve the problem or just did you just sell it? Best
  6. Here is my opinion about another BH. I tried for the first time this morning my 9'2 Cape Cod Special 3/4-3 and I must admit it is a game-changer (it's a custom by Glenn Chatfield). I was confused with the weight at first - not used to such a light rod - but when I understood how to load it was fantastic. It is the first time I have a single rod that can really cast tiny Savage sand eels and a 3 oz pencil popper. It feels just right from the very low end of the weight range to the top. I was amazed as well on how little energy the rod requires to cast a mile. Caught a couple of schoolies, the fight was enjoyable on such a light rod!
  7. Interesting! I should totally compare a Surf II Heavy VS my current 2-8 for Jigging, I'd rather have only one rod for the canal. Is there any testing day scheduled early spring already?
  8. Nope, I just sent it back yesterday. I can send you my name and address in a private message for him to figure out which serial number it is.
  9. Haha, I had no idea that it was you! I watched tons of your videos and made my purchase decision based on your analysis, so that's on you Just kidding. One was from Chaos fishing (9/23) and the other one was from Fishermen's Source (9/30). Both boxes were new and sealed.
  10. I have a 11' Striped Bass Special 2-8. I bought it for the canal in order to cast both 4 oz surface lures and 6/7 oz jigs. It's perfect for the topwater however a little light for the jigs in my opinion. I paired it with an Ultegra XTD 5500 & 40 pounds braid. Extremely light rod, fast action, and great sentitivity in my opinion. Will pick up my second Blackhole today, a custom 9'2!
  11. Yes, just returned two of them (5000 XGFL), from different vendors, same issue.
  12. I have a Tsunami Airwave Elite 1-4 (1-3 really) 11'. It's great for the price. very thin and light.
  13. Hi there, I'm a new member from Massachusetts and discovered the forum when searching about this issue. I just sent back my second Stradic 5000XGFL for a wobble issue, not tight at all, both were clicking at each handle turn. I purchased both from amazon but from different vendors. I will try to find one in a shop and make sure it's perfect. FYI I own a 3000XGFL that is fantastic (and many other reels), so I'm pretty sure it is a batch issue. Very disappointed by Shimano here... I was looking forward to playing with a 5000XGFL during the fall run on my new 9'2 Blackhole custom rod. Will have to wait a bit! Best Thomas
